GrE: Hands On With Xbox 360 Slim

GrE writes, "That’s right folks, these things are finally starting to trickle out to the public. I was able to get my hands on one, take it home, and give it the once over. These are just some of the things that you will find, should you be able to locate one yourself..."

Still don't see the point in getting one yet. Mine is still going so no need to blow a wad of cash on something that does not need replacing. Now when it red rings the next time I turn it on that might be a different story.

bgrundman5817d ago

Are you still under warranty? Because if not, that might be reason enough to consider making the jump.

starven5817d ago

Why not just wait until it red rings then. I understand the trade in value might be less, but rushing out now just seems like a waste when your current 360 is working just fine.

Arnon5817d ago

Because at select retailers such as GameStop, you'll actually receive (I think) a 25% bonus trade-in towards the new console if you trade in your old one.

Raf1k15817d ago

Yep, no point in buying one if your current 360 is working fine. You never know, the one you've got might never even break.

Why in the world will someone buy another gaming console(same kind) after it craps out on them? I mean really? WTF has this generation come to? then people think It's perfectly ok and I'm like, Who the f*ck is the b*tch? some gamers really are. I remember when you buy a Gaming console It's not suppose to crap out on you by fault of the manufacturer, This action by some gamers is very sad Indeed.

Even if It's covered by a three year warranty still, IT SHOULD not happen period!, at least for the rest of this gaming generation, I never EVER had any Issues with a gaming console and every time I see a gamer say something like "I'll just get another when this one craps out" It's so god d*mn sad that some of us are brought down to our knees by big business.

Instead of being pissed off at the god d*mn company that made the faulty hardware they give them more money by simply buying another, It's like a woman who gets beat, she gets her a** kicked by big bubba and then he says I'm sorry but I love you! and she says I Love you to, do that again I like it, I'm addicted to it.

Anyone who disagrees with my comment I Challenge you to explain to me WHY It's ok for the failures and to buy another., I ask WHY?

PAPERCHASER03965817d ago

aka PIMPSTOP they screw you every chance like today I went to see how much trade value on NHL10 the azz behind the counter told me 10.00, I go look on the shelf they were selling pre-owned for 54.99 please pardon my French "fuck gamestop" sorry I had to vent but man they are a rip-off

FragMnTagM5817d ago

The same exact reason that I bought 3 PS2's that had crapped out on me. I LOVE TO PLAY GAMES!

darthv725817d ago

First off...it's not ok. Sometimes crap happens and the company wont stand behind their product simply because of the posted warranty period has expired. I had my samsung plasma go dead on me 2 days after passing the 1 yr mark. I got no satisfaction from samsung but I was glad I got the extended warranty from Fry's electronics.

You can look at this console and see it as just another 360 and yet others can look at it and see it as a more reliable 360. Reliability has yet to be determined but in time we will know more.

I can name several consoles i had to rebuy because they just died and only 1 that got replaced free of charge. Just as an example, Genesis, ps1, ps2, dreamcast, gamecube, wii (sound chip died so it was repaired from nintendo for $80), and recently my friend had his launch 60gb ps3 ylod and it is going to cost him $$$ to get it repaired. He could just go buy another one which he might do but he isnt to happy with sony on their policies.

In fact, I can pretty much guarantee nobody is happy with policies when it happens to them. Oh and that 1 console that got replaced free of charge...yup you guessed it. A 360.

PiTCHBLaCK5816d ago

ok, I understand a little under warranty, but some are saying they'll go out and BUY another if there warranty has expired, If it was my fault that it crapped out fine, but if it crapped out because of poor manufacturing and a companies failure to fix the issue my loyalty for that company would clearly go out the window.

This is the first generation this ever happened, some say "But the PS2!", I say BS, you cannot compare the two failure rates, I dare anyone to and you'll see a HUGE difference, How fast did Sony fix the PS2 issue? pretty fast, how about MS? a d*mn 3 year warranty and a bandaide(that over heating message). and it took MS 5 years to put that message in!. Yet over and over and over people say "But the PS2!", you cannot compare the two failure rates, MS Knows there fans will buy new ones even after the warranty expires.

If the PS3 had such a high failure rate and sony never admits to fixing it and my PS3 fails on me after the warranty expires I sure in hell would not go out and buy another, yet some people have.

I've never had a PS3 or PS2 or SNES or PS1 or N64 or Atari 2600 fail on me. not saying it cant happen, but saying that if it does it better be my fault.

darthv725816d ago

I would say the main reason to rebuy a system would have to be investment on software. You figure it is really the only reason. I had 50 titles when my genesis crapped out on me and i had only 6 when the wii sound chip crapped out.

Either way my investment in the system was paid for by purchasing the games. Systems shouldnt fail but the fact is they do. If you are able to detach yourself from the games purchased out of spite for the system breaking then so be it.

I see the consoles as more disposable than the software. Especially if you have such an elaborate collection as i do.

On a side note, there have been many a gamer on this site that have proclaimed their desire to purchase a newer revised system even though their current system still works. 360 fans saying they are trading in their old for new is not that different than ps3 fans doing the same when the slim came out.

In any case you have morals that others do not. No need to chastise them about what they choose to do so long as it doesnt adversely affect anyone else.

PiTCHBLaCK5815d ago

As a gamer I'm simply watching the backs of other gamers so they don't get burned, I understand if you have a huge library of games on said console then your pretty much damned if you do damned if you don't.

Many PS3 gamers who traded in for the slim made a choice to do so, not because there PS3 broke but out of choice, see I'm talking about the 360 gamers who buy another 360 because it crapped out on them and in some cases very fast, and in some cases more then once? will there loyalty still stick the next generation? we shall see.

What annoys me is these same 360 gamers say "It's ok, It's covered in Warranty, It's ok I'll buy another, It's ok I'll get another because my friends are there" and you know MS sees this to and know that there fans will still fully support them, did I mentioned that the reason why the 360's crapped out so often was because it was rushed to the market by MS to beat Sony to the punch, this in turn makes MS directly responsible. There also rushing Kinect, and I wont need to proove it, just sit back and watch the show.

Let’s just hope that they don’t start crapping out in a couple months. Hey if they do, at least the casket will be a bit smaller, right?

ALL caskets be open and waiting when it crap-outs garbage man be waiting to cenerate it too.

edgeofblade5817d ago

In my case, I might get one in one of the other rooms of my house. But then again, I'll probably wait for the $199 version coming later this year.

roblef5817d ago

That device just looks so sexy, it is hard to resist.

Crash551185817d ago

Interesting read, I'm really debating trading my old 360 into gamestop and upgrading, it's only a matter of time before I get a RROD, and it seems like now is the time to do it.

bgrundman5817d ago

A preemptive strike against the RROD?

dabri55817d ago

Does anyone know if the transfer kit works for the new S system? If so, I'd consider switching but otherwise, I don't want to lose all my purchased Arcade content.

FragMnTagM5817d ago

You will not lose your arcade games anyway as you can redownload anything you have purchased from XBLM. The old transfer kit works as well as the new one and also thumb drives will do the trick. There is no danger of losing any of your content at all. Hope that helps.

dabri55816d ago

Reason I ask is because last time i upgraded I borrowed a friends cables. After the transfer my wife wasn't able to play the full games with her act bcs it wasn't the original console. We had to go online and transfer rights from old console to new one. Didn't know if I would have to do all that again. Not a big deal though.

BubbleSystemSuck5817d ago

If Kinect is compatible with 360 S and no need PSU for the Kinect... looks like if you have an older 360, you would need to buy the Kinect AND the PSU as an accesory.. How much?

JOLLY15817d ago

If you have an old 360 you have to use the "supplied" psu. If you have the 360 s you can detach it from the psu and connect it directly to the console.

BubbleSystemSuck5817d ago (Edited 5817d ago )

thats my point..
i think there is nor "supplied" psu with Kinect.

Why sold a Kinect with PSU for the new 360 if you dont need it?
And is a strategy to sold more new 360S

niceguywii605817d ago

You don't know what you're talking about dude. Just don't speak.

JOLLY15817d ago

Just like a lot of computer printers. There is a cable that goes int the psu (or the 360 s) then the psu goes into the wall, if you need it to go to the wall

pwnzter5817d ago

don't get one any time soon people. seriously. the new slim is just like when the xbox first came out - faulty.

http://kotaku.com/5568492/n...

ElementX5817d ago

If it were such a problem there'd be more than one picture and one youtube video. 2 out of say, 100,000 units sold isn't bad.

Meryl5817d ago

gr8 find.
so basically when it gets too hot (whuch won't take long) it will force a shutdown, lots of fans will complain especially if it bombs out on them in a middle of a game

Hallmark Moment5817d ago (Edited 5817d ago )

PS3 fanboys so desperate they insist that one example of that supposed warning is indication of a epidemic. LOL Only PS3 fanboys could be this bitter. posting that link hundreds of times of that one example making dozens of articles from it is epic fail

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde33d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy33d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
