3DS Graphics chip technology demo.

Manufacturer information and a Futuremark produced video demonstration of the DMP Maestro-2G graphics chip, rumoured to be powering the Nintendo 3DS.

saint_john_paul_ii5733d ago

alot of anti-aliasing considering that its a tech demo, but it gives you an indication of how good gpu is.

cant wait to buy a 3DS.

N4GAddict5732d ago

I'm already blown away at how good MGS3 looks

Hideo_Kojima5732d ago (Edited 5732d ago )

It will be awesome and I will buy one for sure BUT...

obviously 3DS will not be like this because think about it.
3DS has 2 screens in this video only one is shown and processed... and one of the screens is 3D so that is 3 screens that the GPU needs to process for not just one.

Than its all the AI that I am guessing takes up quite a bit of processing too.

But I am sure the old DS could never process anything similar to this.

Its just a tech demo though isnt it, and the configuration isnt strictly the same as what nintendo have in mind for the 3DS. Scripted tech demos dont incorporate actual gameplay where you have big levels and other characters, with their own AI etc using memory and CPU cycles. Building a game means allowing performance headroom for the maximum load that could happen randomly. A tech demo like this means you KNOW the exact maximum load at any one time, so its really easy to maximise performance to a level not conceivable in games. You wont see visuals like this in 3DS games, but its still impressive all the same.

Rather than end on a note downplaying the 3DS, i would like to comment on how impressive some of the early games look. Its pretty exciting to see so many so early from E3!

id like to see nintendo push the 3DS with their 1st party games...imagine Zelda with this sort of control and gameplay...that would be awesome

WrAiTh Sp3cTr35732d ago

Just wait until devs start pushing it to its limits. Which, should really happen from the start, unless this chip has hidden treasures that won't be exploited until devs get use to it.

The 3DS is a portable 3D gamecube. Nintendo's handheld are always as powerful as the last generation of consoles albeit slightly more or less powerful.

for example

SNES & GameboyPocket/Color (aka NES)
N64 & GBA (aka SNES)
Gamecube & Nintendo DS(aka N64)
Wii & 3DS (aka Gamecube)

So hopefully they take advantage of this and give us portable versions of game like Super Smash Bros. That would be an instant buy for me.

El_Colombiano5732d ago

That means that we won't see any graphical increase in there next portable.

It's interesting how crisp that looks compared to a lot of Wii games.

N4GAddict5732d ago

I think it is because the resolution is low for the 3dS

Trroy5732d ago (Edited 5732d ago )

IIRC, the Wii doesn't have hardware AA. If it did, it'd look a lot better.

N4GAddict5732d ago

I hope the 3DS won't cost that much

ABizzel15732d ago

I'm hoping for a $199 price point.

I can't see it being any less with the DSi costing $170, and in an interview Patcher said Reggie said it cost A LOT more to make the 3DS than it did the DS or DSi (Reggie said one of them). Nintendo usually price their products reasonably, but expect a $199 or possibly $250 price point.

Trunkz5732d ago (Edited 5732d ago )

In Terms of Cost, I would totally pay $250 for it. Anything more and it would be like the same mistake the PS3 did at it's price launch.

I'm very excited for the 3DS tho. I love my PSP and DS ~ I love how my DS works, but the graphics on the PSP and how smooth things can look, then looking at the DS graphics it was a little sad.

So I'm glad that the graphics will be on par if not better then PSP, personally I could care less for 3D or not thats just a bonus, I'm mainly excited hopefully see FF6 for the 3DS (which won't come till 5) but I'd love to see FF6 in the style of FF7 only with voice acting, etc. To me, FF6 is one of the Top FF of all time, seeing that it was on SNES, that says a lot even against todays latest FF series.

Hideo_Kojima5732d ago

@trunkz... but do we think PS3s price was a mistake still?

Can't you see it all worked out in the end?

If Sony had released a cheap console it make have just been trashed by the 360. The fact that it cost more in the beginning meant that it could house all the good expensive stuff for the future (Blueray,Cell whatever else made it cost like $800 to produce the first few consoles) instead of releasing A PS4 which is like the current PS3 3 years down the line.

CobraKai5732d ago

I'm expecting a $250 price tag. But it would be sweet if it was 199. Anything higher than 250 and they may end up screwing the pooch. Nintendo has never been known for having a luxury system that costs an arm and a leg so my bet is 250.

BTW how much was the DS when it originally released?

rareairtone5732d ago

I looked at wikipedia. I did get the original one but I for damn sure didn't pay for it lol.

It should have been $150 according to the article.

Therefore, $200-250 is a very plausible estimate for the 3ds. They know people will come in droves to pay that price

dragunrising5732d ago (Edited 5732d ago )

I won't pay anymore than $200. Nintendo is crazy to charge anymore than that amount. By the time the 3DS comes out the tech should be a little bit cheaper, assuming a March 2011 launch date. Additionally, the higher volume of systems they ship, the cheaper it will be. Secondly, the 3DS will effectively be competing with the PSP rather than the DS. Parents on a budget will still buy the DS over the 3DS if the cost is too great. Likewise, the graphics are relatively similar to the PSP as well as (arguably) the value. If the manufacturing cost to retail price is small, Nintendo should tough it out. The volumes they sell at $200 imo will amount to a huge contrast to the number they sell at $250. Of course this is speculation, however, it seems common sense. Who will buy a handheld for more than the price of a Wii outside of early adopters/hardcore? Not me, a "mid-core" gamer :-p

blasian5732d ago

If he withdraws and sheathes that dam sword one more time I will... do nothing. Great demo though looking forward to 3DS

Gitaroo5732d ago

Real games won't look this good, this is only a tech demo, not running any AI physics or anything thing even MGS3 demo. 3DS games also require 3D support, which will be required to rendered twice (2X 400X240), so that will limit what the graphic card can do compare to the tech demo. And Nintendo is also trying to get the battery life to match the DS, which means they will probably clock it lower, which will further reduce its graphical capability. The system does support shaders however like normal map etc which can help making low poly models looks good.

New Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon Key Art From a Retail Poster

This image basically confirms that in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon we will be seeing an alternate story. While it has been stated by Nintendo multiple times that this was the case, they were never really clear on it.

Why in fucks name did the designs for the mc make it through the planing stages of development? They are by far the worse thing pokemon have produced.

MeteorPanda3085d ago

but...you customize your own characters now? l dont like that boys neck. holy shit it's about as strong as a twig

Antnee5343085d ago

I understand that, but if you pick a boy you get the worse choices.

MeteorPanda3085d ago

oh for sure. The franchise just shits on the male version more and more per new entry, lol

Antnee5343084d ago

It's so weird being that the player base is 70/30 male you know. You would think that they would give the males a better choice selection.
