Twisted Metal PS3 is underwhelming

Am I the only person who was completely underwhelmed by the Twisted Metal PS3 reveal at E3 2010?

You can't say that when you haven't even tested out the full thing.

GWAVE5805d ago

Journalistic trolling.

I thought I'd never see the day. /s

Bobbykotickrulesz5805d ago

I wasn't underwhelmed at all. But I also wasn't overwhelmed. It looks fun, there's no denying that, but to me I need to see some more of the game to get really hyped for it.

It looks like classic TM games which is awesome. But still, I'm not as excited for it as I am for a game such as Gran Turismo 5, inFamous 2, or Final Fantasy 14.

WhatARump5805d ago (Edited 5805d ago )

many people love twisted metal... it's just not my type of game though x)

I wanted Kingdom Hearts 3 but NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ah well, atleast Twisted Metal fans are happy ^^

Donny5805d ago

i love how the new tm has factions like dolls, and the clowns, looks to be a great game. ;)

Eamon5805d ago

It's true you shouldn't judge a game without trying it.

But as for the presentation itself, I too felt it was underwhelming.

ThanatosDMC5805d ago (Edited 5805d ago )

I agree though. There has to be something more since we've played Twisted Metal games to death. It dont see the game as a $59.99 worthwhile purchase. Also 16 players is a tad bit small... but that's just me.

Also, the fun factor is different now unlike back in the day when we played it with close friends or family members next to us.

I hope this game cost less than $40 but i doubt it so i'll wait when the first million of people buy it so they could lower down the price. Not to mention it doesnt look like a huge graphical upgrade compared to TM Black. It looks just like an HD version of it including the freeway map.

It'd would have been nice if they added Burnout Paradise/Motorstorm type of car destruction in the game when your car is hit by a missile or something...

Tomdc5805d ago

he can say that because he was talking about the reveal. he wasn't passing judgment on the quality of the game just his impressions of the quality of the game. He also highlights the fact he knows he is in the minority with his opinion.

Dam those journalists for forming individual opinions about recent game announcements!! The cheek!!

sikbeta5805d ago

"Journalistic trolling"

Sorry, but who is the "journalist" you're referring?

This one is not a Journalist, this is dude is a JOKE...

evrfighter5805d ago

I'm buying TM but I'm not expecting a revolution. I just miss Twisted Metal. I don't care about raising the bar, innovation blah blah blah

I just once again wanna roll around as Axel and Thumper and blow sh*t up.

You're gonna be sorely disappointed if you're expecting the greatest game evar!!!!!

rexus123455805d ago

author decides to show a demo video which ends right before the good stuff were shown. The second part of the presentation showed so much more chaos and mayhem that is simply amazing.

Razmossis5805d ago

I used to play it all the time as a kid on 2 player, and that was great... but I dont know why everyone is treating this as a MEGATON announcement, the game was never amazing in the first place, it was a good 2 player game, but not amazing.

maddhatter1235805d ago (Edited 5805d ago )

happyface, unlike the 360 gameplay and graphics go hand in hand on the ps3 we don't have to choose. just look at the last 3 game of the year winners mgs4, lbp and uc2.

Panthers5805d ago

I think you dont know PS fans that well. People buy PS3 over 360 cuz we dont just want FPS, which all FPS is about is graphics. Twisted Metal is a Playstation classic. I think you will be surprised at how well it does.

Sitdown5805d ago

somebody posts an unfavorable view on a game/system, and like clockworth, the supporter of that particular game/system lashes back by bashing an item connected to the competitor. Ahhhh....its like grade school all over again; oh you silly egocentric gamers.

Yardie5805d ago

This isn't about "xbox vs ps3", the writer doesn't like the look of the game in it's current state, the writer didn't mention Kinect, so why do you feel the need to?

Why do people automatically assume that somebody is a fanboy when they say something negative about an exclusive game?

why do you have over 40 agrees?

Yeah, Twisted Metal isn't going to win any graphics awards, but every time I watch gameplay footage I'm blown away by how uncompromisingly FUN it looks. The speed, the weapons, the level design, it all just looks like a complete blast to play. Absolutely can't wait for this game.

Sheikh Yerbouti5805d ago

Bubs bruh,

What I remember most about Twisted Metal games are the level designs, atmosphere and gameplay. We haven't seen much of either to decide. Graphics do make it look like a PSN game, and you are not playing an epic story like a Killzone, Gears or Uncharted. But if you were wanting these first and foremost in Twisted Metal, you weren't wanting Twisted Metal anyway.

Panthers5805d ago

Exactly. TM is all about the fast chaotic arcade gameplay. I cant wait. This game seems to capture all the glory of TM2 and then some.

SpLinT5805d ago

agree. i bet this guy plays Hollywood games like GoW3 and finishes it in 8 hours and is happy mashing the buttons on screen. I'll be playing TM for months, playing the game mode Nuke stealing the leader of the enemy team and controlling a missile to blow their statue while avoiding getting destroyed by enemy helicopters.

raztad5805d ago

@Splint

"i bet this guy plays Hollywood games like GoW3" Bro keep GoW3 out of this, both (GoW and TM) are Jaffes creations.

@Sheikh

"Graphics do make it look like a PSN game" Talk about exaggeration. Game has huge maps, high framerate (looks to be substantially higher than 30fps) , textures and lighting are looking good. Considering game is very early, I'd say it would be easy on the eyes on release. Not KZ3 good, but not every game can be KZ3.

Sure the graphics looked like crap, but I'll bet it is still in pre-alpha. This game is going to be amazing, gamplay and graphics. :) can't wait.

jeseth5805d ago

No matter what kind of gamer you are, Twisted Metal is pure fun. Its one of those kinds of games that can be as fun or as competitive as you want it to be.

You can screw around and try to just blow stuff up or you can maje it into one of the most competitive games you play. Its kind of like Mario Kart (and now Modnation Racers).

Maybe this guy is just too serious. If he is, he's missing out! Twisted Metal is a blast!

iceman065804d ago

The younger gamers seem to be more of the "graphix whores". They don't have the perspective to see that a game doesn't have to be jaw-dropping to be a blast to play. Being spoiled by "next-gen" graphics is cool, but with the perspective that pretty only lasts so long before you get to the core...the substance of the game play. THAT is what lasts. Plus, TM has a pedigree and history with the Playstation gamer.

Chris3995805d ago

If this was my article, I would have said something like: I respect the work that has been done on the game, looks fun in a chaotic, blasty sort of way.

That said, I would have rather seen Last Guardian or a JRPG.

But that's just my preference.

The difference is that I'm not preaching it as FACT, which a lot of these "journalists" tend to do. Opinion =/= fact. In this case, the person isn't even a journalist, just another blogger though.

gta28005805d ago

I was so excited when I first saw this that I missed one thing that I barely noticed. It appears there are only clowns? no more Thumper, Axel, Outlaw, Warhog, Minion, etc? Either way, I'm still exited but if that's the case I'll say I'm a little less exited, but still exited nonetheless.

Parapraxis5805d ago

No, Jaffe said they are only showing 2 factions right now, more will be revealed throughout the year.

Ri0tSquad5805d ago (Edited 5805d ago )

But this game looks fast, scale is pretty big, and the gameplay perfect for a Twisted Metal game. I'm super excited. But yeah, your underwhelmed and I'm sure you're not the only one.

There has never been a game released that is loved by everyone. I loved the older GTA games and millions of people love GTAIV, but I was underwhelmed by it. Is that news? No, it's just my opinion. So how is "I expected more, it doesn't look as good as this, this, and that" news all of sudden?

@gta28000

I think that's only for *one* of the online modes Jaffe was showing. He said the game will have a SP with a story and old characters making a return. There will also be new characters as well.

gta28005805d ago

Aahhhh, thanks for clearing that up. Glad to hear that man! :)

Schobeleth5805d ago

It's a blast, it runs like a dream and it's only 18 months into development. Take that or leave it, I won't try to prove I've been there, I know what I saw and I loved every minute of that 10 minute team deathmatch. Plus, you just don't fuck with Jaffe, come on I thought you knew that... oh wait, gamer.blorge? Nevermind.

DarkTower8055805d ago

It doesn't seem like a $59.99 title. I don't know what kind of single player TM has, if any, but for just a mp game they should put a $39.99 price tag on it.

That being said, I can't wait for this game. It looks like wicked fun.

arakouftaian5805d ago

i ask them about the engene and they told me its in house.
but i also saw the Santa Monica logo once
they restart the game because of frezzing.

i had a lot of fun the game is full of action,
fun and great multiplayer.

Danny Dan5805d ago

Holy sh**

Everything Sony does, everyone criticizes... my god.

DarkSpawnClone5805d ago (Edited 5805d ago )

underwhelming My Foot, any TM fan should be excited over this the games not even done how can you even say any thing about it ? and besides Twisted metal was never the graphics king,But it was sooo much fun,i really don't think by the time of release it will look like that trailer,it will look 100 times better but really ? underwhelming? I don't Think So! its not even a finished game lol They probably showed before they where really ready too,Sony wanted a surprise and it was awesome!

Spydiggity5805d ago (Edited 5805d ago )

why not? how come you guys are allowed to overhype upcoming games like they're the 2nd coming before you play em, but when they look god awful like this game does, it's not okay to say that? pretty hypocritical.

the graphics are garbage, the physics looked terrible, the destruction looked last gen, the environments looked generic.

there wasn't anything about that game that looked better than very average. if it's more than 19.99 on PSN, it's a ripoff.

MUST MISS

P.S. i've been looking forward to a new twisted metal for nearly a decade (since black) for console. so imagine my disappointment when i saw the gameplay vids. if this game were coming out on any other system, you'd all be saying the same thing. but sony can shit in a box and call it great, and most of you would chant "day one"

EDIT: @guy above me: don't speak for all TM fans, please. i was a HUGE TM fan back in the day, and i think it looks like trash.

@guy above him: that's a complete lie too. it's actually the exact opposite. anything sony does, gets overpraised. *cough* Move *cough*

iceman065804d ago

If you were such a fan of TM you would know that it has NEVER really been about the graphics. It's been about the content and the style of the game. There is still more than a year left in the dev cycle to work out "physics" problems that you saw. Overall, it just seems really short-sighted to judge a pre-alpha online demo without touching the controller.

tplarkin75805d ago

The demo at the Sony's conference opened with David Jaffe flying the helicopter. It made it look like a top-down PSN game, like Calling All Cars. It looked cartoony and arcady.

It was a bad presentation.

Snakefist305805d ago

There telling this because they wanted us not to buy this game. But I am a fan and Iam sill Buying this game.

your an idiot,it looked awesome.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5805d ago (Edited 5805d ago )

And it will look more awesome when they will add more technical gameplay and graphics.

Looks like this kind of ''Journalist'' consider the Pre Alpha Version EQUALS to the Final Code of the game

NewNameNow5805d ago

Jaffe and his team works hard on making fun games, just because it isn't graphically intense though it does look damn good, doesn't mean it underwhelmed!

Flamebait, gtfo

Wow cyberpunk is a great pick up. If you haven’t played it you should definitely give it a try

Christopher306d ago

Banishers was dragged down by the need to go back to old areas multiple times.

GhostScholar307d ago

Also if you bought it at launch and couldn’t deal with all the bugs it’s a totally different game now

stupidusername306d ago

Played it on release and thought it was a mess. But I'm currently playing it again now on both PS5 and Switch 2 with cross save progression, and it's really different to how I remember it. Really enjoying it now, and it's really polished and immersive.

darthv72307d ago

Despite owning the 2077 One X console and the steelbook edition of the game... i still have never played it. I may actually give 2077 a try (via the portal) as there has been so much talk about it again, thanks to SW2 and now this comparison vid from DF. https://youtu.be/SvGQik3m6a...

dveio307d ago (Edited 307d ago )

I think it's an okay decision or happening.

iirc, wasn't there even a new and probably last update coming soon announced recently?

I've never played 2077, neither. (I am still a bit mad about their ... well, anyway.)

But I think it can't get better to play that game, or any game for that matter, in a 100% complete, fully updated build.

DivineHand125307d ago

Cyberpunk and Risk of rain 2 are the best of the bunch. Not a bad month if you are one of the few that haven't played those games.

yeastori307d ago

Cyberpunk is probably one of the best games I've ever played, even when it came out with all the bugs and glitches and broken gameplay on consoles, I still loved it at its core because the world was exactly what I wanted in a dystopian vision of the real future and the story was actually well done and compelling. With the fixes and then Phantom Liberty I just knew that this game could've been GOTY winner if it hadn't been released too early and released on PS5. XBX and two years later.

shinXseijuro307d ago

Might give cyberpunk a chance now that the game redeemed itself . Is it only the basic game or with the newer content ?

xHeavYx307d ago

According to the article, it's just the base game, but the DLC will be 30% off

Lego 2K Drive features an exciting mode called Brick Brawl, inspired by Twisted Metal. Players can create, share, and upload various cars, including ones like Sweet Tooth. The game boasts thousands of custom cars, ranging from the Batmobile to the Sweet Tooth ice cream truck.

InUrFoxHole589d ago

Never understood the like for the series. Not my bag but I know a lot of gamers are clamoring for a new game and liked the TV. Series

TiredGamer589d ago (Edited 589d ago )

TM1 and 2 are time period classics. They were a bit rough, ugly, and grungy, but they felt right during the time period they were released and they scratched that early console “death match” itch before FPS games would completely swallow that market.

Many great memories with friends playing couch co-op and 1v1. Short, and quick-and-dirty gameplay that we returned to over and over. I’d buy a remake or proper remastering of the first two games day one.

InUrFoxHole589d ago

Lol, nice! I remember having the tiger handheld or watch..

FinalFantasyFanatic588d ago

I played those so much as I kid, I bought the Twisted Metal games that were on PSN as Playstation Classics, wow, they feel clunky by today's standards, they could really use the remake/remaster treatment.

UltimateOwnage589d ago

Twisted Metal: Black is when the series really hit for me. I still love that game so much. It was kind of downhill for the series after that IMO. I'd love to see the series go back to its roots, but I don't hold out a lot of hope for David Jaffe coming back from where he is these days to oversee development of a competent sequel.

Snookies12589d ago

Black was the pinnacle in my opinion. I adored TM1 and TM2, for sure. But Black brought it to a whole new level of awesome.
