Kojima: "Eyes get tired using Nintendo 3DS"

In a live stream where series director Hideo Kojima and other members of Konami answered fan questions, they replied in answer to that very question: “We’re going to see what people think and feel. What Kojima is going to do, is decide the right direction."

"This was more of a 3D depth presentation. The real game won’t be like that. Your eyes get tired.” he mentioned further on.

portablegaming5821d ago

He mentioned that it was only a Tech-Demo and if you play it too long you get tired eyes. He is even thinking about not bringing out the full game...

dsboy20005821d ago

I want it to be a full game an not only a Tech-Demo!!! You can regulate the 3D depth so who cares about sore eyes?

matey5821d ago

I know i bet SONY got hold of them and said dont do it please ect because there is no sense in what he has said other then he is prob a sony fanboy,Capcom have said they have a few RE games in dev but this 3D version will be the real thing it says we will makethe gameplay so you feel like your in a movie and it will be as big in scope as RE5/RE4 ect and yeah he says nothing of straining eyes like you said you can regulate the 3D to your eyes ect what ever kojima do what capcom are doing and in there words making the best effort to show the power of the hardware so ill stick with capcom anyways because they made MH3 for wii my best game for a long time

Akagi5821d ago

I, personally, would care if it's hurting my eyes. Think about the long term effects, what if you permanently damage your eyes?

SeanRL5821d ago

Periods are on your keyboard for a reason.

Rainstorm815821d ago

Kojima couldnt possibly know what he's doing...Besides what good games has he made MGS, Lords of shadows, involved with Rising...He's just a Fanboy. While Capcom has been making cream of the crop games like Lost Planet 2, Bionic Commando and Dark Void.

Kojima GTFO you non-developing sony fanboy////////SARCASM

multipayer5821d ago

probably is an excuse to make an easier port of the psp version he was working on though...

Batzi5821d ago

I would love to play a remake of Snake Eater but if the platform on which it is made on isn't good after all, I wouldn't want my Metal Gear to land there. Kojima, you decide, either do Snake Eater with your full confidence about 3DS and we, loyal Metal Gear fans all going to get the 3DS or don't do it so that we don't get the 3DS! Kojima you choose.

"hes even thinking of not bringing out the full game"
where did you get that?
because that wasn't even in the story

even in the original story he never said your eyes get tired using the 3ds he just pretty much said from what they have in the tech demo your eyes get tired

hes talking about the 3d in the tech demo not the game or the 3ds itself

Arnon5821d ago

God the game is so pretty. I really hope that the full game comes out.

vasilisk5821d ago (Edited 5821d ago )

You get tired by playing the 3DS (not just the eyes).

The thing is that's its impressive at first. Later on, when you realize that if you move the console just a little, and when I mean little, I mean VERY LITTLE, you loose the 3D effect and you can't even play. See all these people watching the 3DS in the nintendo booths? See how focused and still they seem. It's because the don't want to loose the 3D effect, cause if they move, it will take some time to readjust. Just watch the videos of the people with the 3DS in their hands...

Personally, when I got my hands on the 3DS I was very much impressed. After holding that thing still for 15 minutes (and I mean STILL) I got tired, I wanted to let that thing down and turn off the 3D effect. When I play I'm relaxing. The 3DS as beautiful as it seemed, it became a chore.

matey5821d ago

You are lying m8 grow up get off this site go check out Kinect animals or something u idiot everyone famous people the lot have played on it for longer then 15mins and they have only praise for the machine so i dont beleive u have even played it.

FanboyPunisher5821d ago

He bought it; I dont know if thats a correct statement... wouldnt we of heard of this sooner out of the thousands of media who got to try it?

vasilisk5821d ago (Edited 5821d ago )

First of all what does kinectimals has to do with 3DS, that thing is hideous...
Dude, I have a DS and I love it but I'm reserving judgement about 3DS. I play my DS often and continuously sometimes for hours. About the 3DS now. If you tilt the screen a little bit you loose the effect. If you think that you can play more than 15-30 minutes holding the thing absolutely still and also trying to push the buttons without moving it, then the 3DS is probably the best console in the world for you. Also if you NEED and WANT to love it without even laying your eyes on it, that's your problem, not mine. As a 2D console it will probably be the best portable console ever made but as a 3D, it's not. Also noone really "played" it, watched it in his hands like me is more appropriate. Lastly, I don't give a F if you believe me or not, I'm part of this industry a very long time to be caught in the media overhyping of things that don't deserve it.

@FanboyPunisher: By now we should have all learned to rely on our judgement and not the worst industry media out there. According to the media, after Ocarina of Time, SMG2 is the greatest game ever made along with Grand Theft Auto IV. Umm, no They're not, not even close. My advice: reserve your judgement until you get to try it yourself.

noodi13495821d ago

It's going to take time getting used to. A lot of people are worrying over a prototype model and I can understand fully why.

I remember the first time I looked at and held a Xbox 360
controller, I was laughing and mocking the design but infact it was (still is) ugly but very easy to get used to and comfortable.

First time I played a DS, I was still getting used to the stylus and trying to get used to playing and interacting with object withing a game but it is easy and fast.

First time I played Wii sports and holding a Wii mote and Nunchuk. It was hard to get used to, after a couple of rounds I would get tired and my arms would fall asleep.

The first time I got my HD tv back when they first released, I couldn't get used to such high quality pictures, brightness, contrast, (yes even at the lowest settings i'd still get a freaking headache, I would have to eat and eat to get my energy back up) because I've been on SD all my life and it would give me headaches for weeks.

All i can say it that it takes time to get used and for the user to adjust themselves to this new dimension and after a couple of days, maybe weeks you'll forget about it, you just have to train your brain. I can't say that it'll work for everyone as some people get used to right off the bat and others take time which and for some people it just puts them off completely. If you don't like it you don't have to get it.

There is always going to be an issue. There were thousands of people at that event who tried the demos and all had diffenrent reactions. Even when the final 3DS is going to be released it isn't going to be a perfect product, someone will come out and say i've gone cross eyed, the 3DS effect has scarambled my brain and i've become a colourblind cyclopse, the 3DS made my cat blind etc.

I just hope that the flaws are quickly noticed and Nintendo have/are trying to find a plausible solution to lessen the strain, pain and viewing angle porblems so everyone can enjoy a glasses-free cheap top of the art product.

Although I hope that even after that this product is released that even the minor side affects dissapear instantly (sore eyes being a main issue).

I betcha when you start up the 3DS on release there will be an hour long tutorial of the health hazards, what not to do etc.

Anyhoo bring on MG3dS!

Lower graphics than PS1 in 3D, my eyes would get tired to. :)

DW5821d ago

journalists quoting developers/producers/whatever is becoming suspect .. if I can't see a video, or video interview, where the developer is out right dissing a game, then this is all talk to me.

Miroque25821d ago

Crap I wanted the full game, but I bet it is too large for the 3DS cartridges. It has tons of videos on it...

AbsoluteZelda5821d ago

1. The 3DS Cartridge is 2GB, more than enough for the game.

2. Way to take his words out of context about the eye pain.

Gray-Fox5821d ago

Well theyll be skimping on the visuals. I was one of the lucky ones to test it out and it certainly did not look better than MGS:3. It looked about on par with Peace Walker.

Gray-Fox5821d ago

Well.. it's hard to explain. It gives games more "depth" and it kinda feels like you're in it (kinda). Some things do "pop" out when looking at the screen at the right angle.

hamoor5821d ago

4.7 G on the ps2 with higher Res and bigger screen and better sounds
But on the small 3ds it not gonna be that big

matey5821d ago

yes but the 3DS uses new compression tech that lets u do 6 times the file size and then squeeze it into the 2GB so as it stands the biggest games u can fit on a 3DS are 12GB so where is your point even the wii can do it but 8 times instead of 6 so the wii can make games as big as u like how do think rocket boy was made on 40mb its called compression and that game has better graphics then alot of retail games almost reminisent of mario galaxy there proof and thats that

FanboyPunisher5821d ago (Edited 5821d ago )

flamers; you think they already thought of this?

They did, chill out...

Well I mean the handheld is not even released yet plenty of time to fix that.

DJKGBYF5821d ago

I could care less if my eyes got tired playing MGS3. Eye damage? At least I'm playing MGS3 in 3D.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure78d ago (Edited 78d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer79d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot79d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno79d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay79d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno77d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK78d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
