Why Sony Beat Everyone Else At E3

It's apparent that Sony may not be leading the revolution of games in terms of innovation or technology, but they're certainly delivering their PlayStation package to players better than anyone else.

HolyOrangeCows5807d ago

The title should end with "...in terms of motion"
because that's all he pretty much talks about.

NewNameNow5807d ago

Motion was all any of the big 3 were bringing anyways

NewNameNow5807d ago

In terms of console obviously...

Sony is pushing 3D as well though

darthv725807d ago

i was way more impressed with nintendo. MS not so much except for the slim 360. i been saying they were making one and people shunned me on that but it was inevetable. None of their games were real show stoppers or unexpected.

Sony had all the 3d stuff and we knew that. They had the motion stuff and we knew that too. Only real surprise was Gabe from valve but even with twisted metal it was rumored and not much of a surprise because we knew it was coming.

Nintendo had so much we didnt expect. 3ds was announced a little while ago but for it to show with several high profile games was very surprising. Same goes for the games on the wii. Basically, no one was expecting much from nintendo and they really stepped up and impressed everyone.

sony beat ms that much is true. Nintendo beat them both but that is my opinion. Not everyone will agree with that and i can respect that. Not hating just saying my peace.

PiTCHBLaCK5807d ago

Sony is doing 3D to, and from what I gather It'll be available on the PS3, sure you may need a 3D TV and glasses, the facts are there, sony is doing 3D to.

Is it just me or does it seem like Sony and Nintendo have a good relationship with each other?, are they secretly working together behind the scenes? or simply sharing Tech? even at E3 there booths are near each other, I'm sure people will say: It's always been like that!, and I say exactly.

DMason5807d ago (Edited 5807d ago )

Did anyone even bother to look at the site this is coming from? Oh wait, it's N4G and everyone just reads titles. This site has less than 10 articles total, and that counts "micro" reviews and videos. This site the equivalent of a hobo in the street yelling stock tips at me. Zero credibility. But it does get one thing right, and that would be knowing what the fanboys want to hear.

Yeah I didn't think Sony did that great. I wasn't interested in 3D, maybe in 3 years I will when it's not as expensive, and I am not buying the move because I hate motion controls, if I liked them I would have a Wii before the move came out. The only thing I liked was the announcement of Twisted Metal AND Portal 2, those were 2 HUGE surprises and I think everyone can agree were the best part of the show, even listen to the crowed. I don't go to E3 to see new technology, I want to see NEW never before announced GAMES! Now think about this, is sony saved GT5, KZ3, LBP2, ALL for E3, they would have won by a landslide, like the crowd would be partying on the stage and people would praise the PS3!

Trexman895807d ago

3D doesn't magically become cheap after a certain amount of time. You need people to invest in it and the only way that is going to happen is if people are buying 3D tvs. If nobody buys 3D tvs then the technology will die and we won't hear any more about it. However, if enough people buy 3D tvs then they will get cheaper with time.

PiTCHBLaCK5807d ago

People said this same thing about BR, I remember year 1 of the PS3 very well.

Odin7775807d ago

@ Dmason Well you've got to start somewhere, don't you? I didn't think the article was particularly well written, but I don't think it's fanboy-lube or anything.

Baltis5807d ago

If E3 was a debate, yeah Sony had the best speakers. But isn't E3 suppose to be a time for showing? Don't tell me why you're so hot Sony. Show me. I didn't see Kevin Butler's jokes as funny as they were kind of true. Move looks better than it use to me but they still didn't bring about change and they certainly didn't bring any new exclusive games I really want. Where is a new Syphon Filter or an RPG? Where is a new I.P. that doesn't rely on motion controls or multiplayer as a selling point?

E3 wasn't a good show this year. Not to me.

NewNameNow5807d ago

Agreed, I didn't even bother going today

waterboy5807d ago (Edited 5807d ago )

dalibor5807d ago (Edited 5807d ago )

For me it was when Sweet Tooth decided to come out & join in E3. I want that ice cream truck. damnit and transform it into a robot to terrorize fanboys's houses. And take on & vanquish Megatron of course. Man I sound like a nerd sometimes lol.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5807d ago (Edited 5807d ago )

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8514d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele13d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk13d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay13d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10114d ago (Edited 14d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit13d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg13d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10113d ago (Edited 13d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14914d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle26d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit27d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog27d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog27d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad27d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_27d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage27d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda26d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
