Nintendo - 8/10 - Generally consistent, some excellent titles, lack of new IPs

Sony - 7/10 - erratic conference, big surprises, too many compilation videos, ton of content

Microsoft - 5/10 - too casual-orientated, way too flashy, not enough original titles, scripting was evident, a few great moments

Smacktard5844d ago

Er, why wasn't Sony blasted for not having any new IPs, too?

colonel1795844d ago

Sorcery is a new IP, Heroes on the move is a new IP (although is using characters from established IPs) that's TWO!

I don't know if there were others, I don't remember

52pickup5844d ago (Edited 5844d ago )

Sorcery is a new IP.

Edit: Colonel179 beat me to it lol.

Aquanox5844d ago

Whether you liked it or not, Microsoft won.

Elven65844d ago

Heroes on the Move might be a stretch but Sorcery was new.

It's a toss up for me between Nintendo and Sony, they both had great games and Nintendo really came out of no where with a great conference. Sony showed off Move really well too.

The first half of the Microsoft press conference was good until they got too deep into the Kinect stuff, it got pretty bad at that point. The fact that Rare didn't have anything for non casuals was disappointing but I guess this Kinect stuff is what will make Microsoft their money back for the time being. Hope we see something better from Rare in Germany though.

blitz06235844d ago

lol Aquanox

using SALES again to determine the winner. Are you one of those who preordered? Probably not, cuz you yourself know Kinect is not worth it. Typical xbot

Smacktard5844d ago

Alright, if you use Sorcery and Heroes as examples, wouldn't Wii Party and Mario Sports Mix be fitting counter-examples? :)

(Although I'll have to admit I forgot about Sorcery -- that games actually looks pretty awesome, and definitely better than the examples I gave)

Yeah I'm a sony guy and I think Nintendo came out on top too. Don't get me wrong, Sony did what they had to do, give a fair share of the focus to Move and 3D but wouldn't hurt if PSP had some exciting games we didn't know already about, instead they focused on the new ads for it. Despite that, the games were good, Twisted Metal was one of those great rumou confirmations, but I was also expecting Resistance, Uncharted or, less likely indeed, Syphon Filter. Maybe I was just expecting too much, but still Sony didn't surprised me, although they also didn't fell short of what was generally expected of them.

Now Ninty was game after game and 3DS looks hot. Seriously, I almost gone out at the same day and bought a Wii and I don't even like the way Motion Controls are forced on Wii. 3DS on the other hand, unless Sony, Microsoft or someone else throw a nuke at handheld world, is shaping up to be a day one buy!

Ilikegames765843d ago

should be:
Nintendo won for the non-HD category
Sony won for the full HD category
MS failed even in the sub-HD category

Mahr5843d ago (Edited 5843d ago )

"Er, why wasn't Sony blasted for not having any new IPs, too?"

Didn't you see the Microsoft Kinect conference? Lot of new IPs there. And from the sounds of it, they were all Nintendo games anyway. So by that metric, Nintendo still comes out ahead.

Did IGN forget that E3 was an exhibition...not a competition????
Watevs.

As far as who had the best conference, for me:

1)Ninty- Surprise after surprise after surprise. New Kid Icarus game, new Zelda, Goldeneye. The 3DS presented the best innovation at E3 and had an INSANE library of third party support.

2)Sony- The majority of the show was dedicated to 3D, Move, and PSP...3 things I don't care about. After this, te conference picked up for me. The Valve announcement was great, but on the whole, that was the only megatons.
As far as hardcore games, I'm not bothered that they focused on multiplats since Dead Space 2 and MOH will be quality games. HOWEVER...no Agent, no Infamous 2 gameplay, no Starhawk, no Resistance 3. Personally, I didn't care about Twisted Metal since I've never played the originals

3)Microsoft- FAIL...the best game they showed IMO was Black Ops. Halo: Reach looked astounding in my eyes though.

Gamehead365843d ago

Sony-8
Nintendo-8
Microsoft-2>>>>aw ful. just awful.

blu_yu_away5844d ago

What I learned from E3 2010:
1: My 360 is going through an identity crisis and has a serious case of Wii Envy.
2: MS is quickly losing touch with their fanbase.
3: Nintendo is finally getting back into touch with their fanbase.
4: ES was way over hyped... again

seinfan5843d ago

1) correction: Wiinis envy
2) MS just wants more money, so they copy what they feel is the selling point for the other consoles' success.
3) Nintendo is not getting "back" in touch with their fanbase. Any Mario game that they spew out pleases the wiitards. This formula has been going on for over 25 years. The past 15 years have been garbage.
4)Of course.

badz1495844d ago

it's not that they don't want to pick a winner, it's just that they don't want to admit who made it dead last boring! the free console sure does it job perfectly!

Timesplitter145844d ago

I am baffled that one of them thought Microsoft won. What the fuck. It was the absolute worst conference in the history of E3.

I'd say Nintendo wins this (announced tons of new awesome games, 3DS gets Mteal Gear, etc...), and Sony comes close second (Gabe, Twisted Metal).

rakunado5843d ago (Edited 5843d ago )

I would say Microsoft won if I got that spanking awesome new xbox360 machine too. :P

But i didn't... so It would be Nintendo being ahead of Sony by just an inch of a hair length and Xbox coming dead last!

If Sony didn't show all their stuff like Kz3 and Infamous 2 before E3, they would have probably won, but by the time of the conference we knew most of the exclusive stuff coming out already so Nintendo won on surprise factor alone.

Viper75843d ago (Edited 5843d ago )

Konami won the E3, and we all know it.
Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft never stood a chance

with 1-10

Sony 9/10 - Plenty of games, some where announced before e3 which lessened their impact, but otherwise good show. Also Wizardy looks nice as a new Ip.

Nintendo 9+/10 - Nintendo where not kidding this year, starting off with zelda and announcing new titles (no new interesting IP's tough which is a shame). Nice to see some classics return tough!

Microsoft 6½/10 - HC stuff was pretty good, but most of them we already knew and the rest of the show was just too embarrassing.

Konami 1,000,000/10 - There are no words in English that describe the awesomeness of this show. My stomach is still hurting from the laughter.

Nintendo won in my eyes. They did something that I had forgotten they were capable of doing, and that was show off good games. I was really expecting a ton of shovelware to be shown, but instead we got a look into a bunch of quality Nintendo Titles. Hell, there was barely any shovelware shown from Nintendo this year, which is simply amazing.

Sony comes in second, they had a very good E3, but it wasn't much of a shocker aside from Gabe and Twisted Metal. I understand that they needed to put Move information out there, and that's why all of the other games had been leaked out so early, but overall their E3 was entertaining to watch. I was also very surprised by the timed exclusivity from Sony, I really hope they will still push out quality first-party exclusives instead of trying to secure third-party exclusivity.

Microsoft had the weakest of the conferences. They showed off 3 games that everyone has known about for a while, and even then it seemed like they just threw Halo/Gears/Fable to the side to make room for Kinect. Hell, they didn't even have the time to show Crackdown 2 at all. No idea what I think about kingdoms, could be interesting but ATM there is no information on it. I understand that Microsoft is trying to push Kinect, and hell I'd say they did a pretty good job in advertising it so far. The downside is that the Kinect push is detrimental to the "core" 360 audience, as I'm sure everyone except die-hard microsoft fanboys felt underwhelmed by the conference. I hope they are able to balance Kinect and hardcore games, because a Kinect-dominated xbox seems gloomy.

Donny5844d ago (Edited 5844d ago )

i liked sony's conference.

morganfell5844d ago

Agreed. They showed games that hit every type of gamer. Not just the cutesy platformer crowd nor solely the FPS crew. But everyone. Also their move with Valve will do more to change social structures than anyone since Valve will have cross platform Portal 2 play with PS3, MAC, and PC. Steam is huge and bringing that to the PS3 was the biggest bombshell of the show.

If there were errors in the show, Sony didn't blame the fans like one of the big 3. Sony remembered to relax and show some humor all the while bringing the most technological innovation of any keynote.

callahan095844d ago

Can't be bothered to watch the video. Somebody who watched, would you please summarize and say who they said "won"? Please?

qface645844d ago (Edited 5844d ago )

they didn't say anyone won they went with the whole everyone is a winner

i had no idea how lame and boring these guys were

callahan095844d ago (Edited 5844d ago )

Thanks for the info, qface. Very kind of you. Bubbles for you.

kingdavid5844d ago

Wasnt too lame or boring. It was informative and a pretty good watch where mature journalists acknowledged other platforms instead of being rabbid fanboys.

SpLinT5843d ago

Nintendo guy was the only won who was an immature "no question nintendo won!!" while the other 2 thought the multiplats shined and since they are coming 2 both consoles, it was a tie. Frankly, I dont see how Nintendo won by releasing remakes and 2D games that can probably be remade on LBP2 lol. Notice: Kirby, Metroid(kinda), Donkey Kong are 2D. And the 3ds titles having n64 remakes. Zelda was their biggest hit and was unresponsive on stage. So how did they win? with Kid Icarus? Or by trying to remake 007? If anything, the Cod and MoH titles are better.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle49d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg55d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree55d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai55d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde56d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy56d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
