I think the new campaign is kinda lame. If everything fails then just get personal...

Hmm...is this a new Sony? First we had KB dissing Kinect straight up(hilarious), now we have Marcus dissing the iphone lol. Personally, I like it..but I have a dark sense of humor so..

Still, comparing a full-fledged iphone game to a PSP game is flat out retarded. Of course PSP games will generally have better quality..thats expected. However, the thing is, iphone games trump PSP games on the price/value perspective. iphone games are MUCH cheaper than PSP games.

Also, most people love having an all-in-one device. Who wants to lug around a PSP AND an Iphone when they can just play touchscreen games, make phone calls, and surf the web on ONE slim device.

Srry, but until the PSP becomes much slimmer and incorporates touchscreen controls and phone support...it'll get slaughtered by the iphone. Even more so now because iphone games are getting better.

LMAO the vid @ 0:42 Hahahaha

@wages of sin- KB's cool with me and I think hes a great addition to Sony. I think Marcus ill make more people pick up PSPs but as soon as the Ipod touch 4g comes out...consumers will flock to that. This isn't even considering the fact that the 3DS ill be out relatively soon. IMO, Sony should give up on the current PSP hardware.

wages of sin5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

Isn't the issue; that really doesn't have anything to do with at all to be honest. I have a dark sense of humor but I find Kevin Butler annoying (not funny at all) and this Marcus kid reminds me of the Genesis guy back when I was a kid.

edit: I just watched the ad and all I will say is wow. Really Sony, really?

HolyOrangeCows5823d ago

I don't think that's it's the WORST campaign idea ever, but the execution is lacking.

mirroredderorrim5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

I've had an iphone for about almost 3 years now. Nowhere do I see "value" in their games. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on the PSP>90-99% of the iphone games, imho.

That's just 1 game, right there, that has more value in it's first half (before Inverted Castle) than most iphone games together.

I just don't see what other people see when it comes to being optimistic about iphone gaming. Also, I don't like controlling games with a gyroscope, I like controllers.

Now, if we had a chance to rock a psp phone with two flat, but responsive nubs, tucked away underneath, with the ability to digitize our games and put'em on the phone or at least grab our games from PSN, unto the phone, I would be with that. I honestly don't think Apple had gaming in mind when they made the phone, tbh.

I think they see how viable the industry has become and are slowly, but surely jumping on the bandwagon, as they say.

BISHOP-BRASIL5823d ago

I don't see the meaning in doing so too... Is mobile gaming that big anyway? Serious question, I don't see much of my friends paying for any of it, I actually only play tetris when I'm out and there is REALLY nothing else to do, and it come bundled...

Maybe mirrored is about to something, maybe Sony plan on PSP2 with phone capabilities (I mean, why not, they pushed PS3 as the home center of entertainment, maybe they'll try to push PSP to be the same center on the go), hence they are going against the mobile gaming actual stage and will promote gaming dedicated machine where making calls is just a feature...

Anyway, I don't like it. It was funny when KB did it for one comercial, but E3 alone I felt it was pretty overdone... Yeah it was funny, but it's uncalled for. Sony should keep focus on their own services and products, there is a lot of them, no need to bash competition.

darthv725823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

Big difference between KB and this kid. KB gets away being being funny taking little pot shots at things. This kid is flat out rude and knows he can do that because he can be.

I know both are just simple personas for the actors to portray but sony could have done better with someone less arrogant. Or have this kid portray a little less arrogance.

Does sony realize that this face for psp gaming has the potential to create a negative response? Nintendo doesnt need to resort to such tactics to sell systems and sony thinks if they are more in your face it will make a difference.

I already have my psp and go but wouldnt want this to be the face of portable gaming. It creates a bad impression as to who psp gamers should be. It is basically the understanding of white humor (kb) and black humor.

zaphod7775823d ago

I like him I think he might get some of the younger kids.

As far as value goes look at all of the PS1 games you can get for the PSP for around 10 bucks each you can't beat that.

I don't like this kid. He makes me not want to play the PSP I already own. KB is funny. This kid just gets on my nerves.

deafwing5823d ago

... it's sends a mixed signal about psp owners

NYPunkster5823d ago

if he was a little bit more relax and not as bossy then it would be cool. He's just too aggressive and that's not his fault but the director.

EvilBlackCat5823d ago

yup ARROGANT Sony

Sony be very careful Apple is a Hardware/Software Company

By the way isnt that Hip Hop Gamer lost son?

Naaah!!! he can speak clearly

DaTruth5823d ago

Since it seems so difficult to make a game with decent controls on the PSP with only one analogue stick; controls on the Iphone must be a crapfest!

Hotel_Moscow5823d ago

maybe developers should create games using the controls the psp has instead of trying to make it so that you need 2 analog sticks

like metal gear solid peace walker

use analog stick to move triangle square cirle cross to look around r to fire l to throw grenades arrow buttons to go through inventory

its not the hardware its the developers

Imperator5823d ago

I really dislike this marketing campaign.. It's too annoying.

04soldier5823d ago

But Marcus needs to find his own identity. Kevin Butler has his snarky sarcasm in his ads. Which is why hes soo funny at its because hes a professional. Marcus needs to find out what he can do to make these new ads funny and memorable and stick with it...

I didn't think they would start so early with the campaign the announced during E3. But well. It stinks... I always hated Burger King vs. McDonnalds...

PoSTedUP5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

yeah selling 6.8 million and making it the 7th best selling PlayStation game of all time and all....

PoSTedUP5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

AND CRASH BANDICOOT taunting MARIO at Nintendo corp. XD

"hey mustache man, plumber boy, feeling like your days are numbered?" lol

@ nike below- yeah selling 6.8 million and making it the 7th best selling PlayStation game of all time and all....
the series fell down the drain after naughtydog stopped developing. but the franchise sold over 40million all together (thats after 16 titles though)

so the marketing did a lot of good for crash ; )

Nike5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

Yeah, we all know how that worked out for Crash in the end. :P

Edit@Shadow: Crash did that? FFVII, RE2, MGS, Twisted Metal and a shit ton of other classics would like to review that sales data.

Also, Crash went multi-platform when Naughty Dog sold his rights and not a single game since then could compete with Mario (yes, not even with Super Mario Sunshine - that's how low contemporary Crash titles were being rated).

Edit: Damn, Crash really did have a huge following in the Playstation days. However, seeing the full list, it's Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy VII and MGS that sold the most.

But I stand by my original point. He played a part, but no way did he single-handedly move PS1 units like Super Mario 64 did for N64, Super Mario Bros. did for the NES, New Super Mario Bros./Mario Galaxy did for Wii, etc.

Shadow Flare5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

Yeah, we know how that worked out. Crash helped push his console to sell over 100 million consoles, and it took 10 years for Mario to get his company back on its feet

Cryptech5823d ago

I thought the part about charging 3 bucks for a real game you could play with a real piece a paper and a trash can was pretty funny, cuz its true.

*swish* yes! See that was free. hahaha

Dir_en_grey5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

Sony needs to stop these negative campaigns against other companies. People enjoy different variety of stuff. If you are marketing to the people who own iPhone, it won't make them start liking your games just by simply dissing what they like already.
Many people probably own both anyway and never thought of the 2 devices as being competitors anyway.

This commercial also backfires when the PSP has a same type of game called WTF(Work Time Fun). It's packed w/ many mini-games that are incredibly simple and stupid just like the garbage game that they dissed in this commercial, but it turns out to be really fun to play when you do these simple chores over and over.

Anyway, my point is, negative campaigns are always dumb no matter which side is doing it, because while some might like it, there are also others who will be completely turned off by how low the company stands.

Jrome5823d ago

Apple does it...and it sure as hell works for them.

Cryptech5823d ago

I guess I dont read that much into it. I just think it was a funny joke, cuz it is. I think people on both sides take all this shit way to serious. Lighten up peeps!

btw, I had a psp for 5 years and played one game, God of War, to completion on it. Traded it in 3 days ago. Its a good system, but I just never used it. I also own ps3, xbox 360, but most of my fun is had on my L337 PC rig.

VileAndVicious5823d ago

Exactly!! Apple does it ALL THE DAMN TIME! so people please dont act like SONY is some evil arrogant company all of a sudden.

But what the kid said about paying 3 dollars for a game you can play for free was funny... and true. But I do think this kid is a lil TOO brash.

Darkfocus5823d ago

so that comment didn't really make sense since they showed baseball right after it.

Jrome5823d ago

Hey, why are you playing baseball on the psp? Go outside and play with yourse---wait what?

andy8530d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele30d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk29d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10130d ago (Edited 30d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit29d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg29d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10129d ago (Edited 29d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14930d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle43d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit43d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog43d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog43d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad43d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_43d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage43d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda43d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
