PSInsider: Behind Closed Doors: id's RAGE

PSInsider writes: Today's behind-closed-doors showing of the 30-minute E3 2010 RAGE demo set my little heart aflutter with memories of ancient mega-texture and DVD storage-limit debates. Whose predictions would play out? Would the 360 (and presumably PS3) buckle under the weight of gigabyte-sized textures? Would loading times force us to go make a sandwich? Let's find out.

CreativeWriter5813d ago

...here is the claim that KZ3, Uncharted 2, and Red Dead Redemption have escaped the Uncanny Valley for facial animation and lip sync. RAGE's in-game NPC interaction is pretty bad by comparison, and the animation woes stand-out precisely because the texture work is so beautiful.

Coded-Dude5813d ago

i thought the exact same thing. however the detail they used when creating the worlds and towns was very impressive

raztad5813d ago (Edited 5813d ago )

Rage is very flat, I've told that already. There is very few things going on at once, kinda remind me Bishock (indoors) and outdoors (when racing) it's not even close to MS mayhem. However I do agree the TEXTURE WORK is SUBLIME. Just beautiful, at least what I've watched in the not so good videos. That megatexture tech is mindblowing. Carmack is genius.

Shaman5813d ago

Says you and some other Sony fanboys, but journalists who are there are praising it more than KZ3 and Crysis 2 which means it does indeed look amazing.Anyway...you can count on most visual awards to go to RAGE and not a single 360 game compares to it...

Fireseed5813d ago

Was that through you're first or second playthrough of the game... or are you just speaking out of your ass.

seij5555813d ago

No one is being a fanboy here but you, Shaman. It is a valid argument that although the texture work is amazing, the environments are very static and the animations need some work.

Coded-Dude5813d ago

i'd say that the animations will remain lackluster due to space limitations. the game is gorgeous, and the world looks interesting. i am personally excited about this game.

CreativeWriter5813d ago

What in the world are you playing at 120 FPS? Counterstrike? Quake?

What Rage is getting praises for its animation and dynamic AI.

And fuck the graphics it's freaking running 60 fps the people slightly interested in Real time rendering know what im speaking about.
16.5ms vs 33ms is all im going to say N4G is not worth the problems and time to go real nerdy.

KILLERAPP5813d ago

Is running like that now and they have more development time because it comes out next year so expect it to be even better looking by then…

evrfighter5813d ago

more fps and not 3d is the real road to the gaming future.

60fps has come to look a little choppy to me as I've grown accustomed to 120fps.

30fps IS unplayable in fps gaming to me. It sounds far fetched but it really kills the gaming experience.

KILLERAPP5813d ago

I hope they sell this engine for use in other games because am tired of the unreal engine…

bviperz5813d ago

Is why it can run so well while still staying pretty. Doesn't take away from it's beauty and technical genius. Can't wait to see what they bring to the table with DOOM!

TheViper5806d ago

^Nice name.

The Uncanny Valley shows itself as some features look amazing which allows the unnatural features and flaws to become more pronounced.

Needs a better balance.

I hope the devs can break away from MS and take their IP's with them in the not to distant future. This entire consolidation and mass industry firings that MS has spearheaded has been nothing but a disaster for everyone except the already rich creatively bankrupt tw@ts at Microsoft.

MS is nothing but a drain on the entire gaming industry and every facet of it.

1Victor154d ago

There is precedent already with bungie separating from Microsoft but I doubt Microsoft will let them go out with their IP’s without paying a huge price

Reaper22_154d ago

Good for them. From what I hear Microsoft supports it but unfortunately it still doesnt change much but its a step in the right direction. More devs across the entire industry should do this. But regardless, you just love to hate anything Microsoft or xbox. Who's fault is it that sony closed down studios? Who spearheaded that? What i don't understand is that if you hate Microsoft so much why the concern. If this bothers you so much you may want to find another hobby. Free up some of that mental energy for your own well being and stop worrying about shit you cant change.

@FlaggerD care to look at yourself in the mirror, obscure? It's like your 132456th account now, and all of them have you being obsessed with Sony. You just can't handle the fact they literally stomped on Xbox, LMAO! Juggernaut my ass haha. Xbots claiming Expedition 33 winning GotY is a win for Xbox because it was on Game pass is the funniest shit ever LMAO!

MrDead154d ago

Good for them. With AI coming for their jobs and their new corporate overlords working overtime to replace them, it’s a smart move.

Notellin154d ago

It won't be long before Microsoft lays off everyone in gaming and routes that money over into AI.

Time for everyone at Xbox to update the resume and start coming up with Indie game pitches.

DarXyde154d ago

The point of unionizing is collective bargaining. Sadly, I do not believe they have any leverage, which is likely why Microsoft isn't impeding them: The investment in AI is gargantuan. We're talking about a data center in Wisconsin that's about 200 city blocks. That is massive and insane.
