E3 2010 RAGE Preview from Examiner.com

RAGE Lead Designer Matt Hopper took us on a personal tour of his game at E3. Graphically, it's one of the best-looking FPS games we've seen to date for the PC—and he was demonstrating on the Xbox 360.

"This is the first new IP from us in more than 10 years. We decided that if we're going to do something new, we're going to do something big."
—Matt Hopper, Lead Designer, id Software

Matt showed us extended sequences through a variety of levels. No video or photos were allowed, unfortunately, so we can only describe what we saw.

"Graphically, it's one of the best-looking FPS games we've seen to date for the PC—and he was demonstrating on the Xbox 360."

Anybody find it strange he says this in such a way he ends up skating around saying *the best looking console game* Most likely trying to avoid upsettings a certain group, of course his site may be part of that certain group.

Kind of odd people are reluctant to admit the power of the 360 saying things like "looks good for a 360 game" or "the best looking 360 game" speaking like they're shocked despite the 360 outperforming the PS3 in almost every match(lead platform or not)

Sony having skilled 1st party developers building engines specifically for PS3 hardware has little to do with how powerful the 360 is nor does it prove that PS3 is more powerful. Microsoft uses outdated or dime a dozen multi platform engines because they do not have studios that can sit back and take half a decade building engines first then start pumping out games every couple of years..

power of 360 ill keep it short im still waiting like seriously we hear this for almost every game thats coming out and then once it comes we never hear anything about it when was the last time some one talked about alan wake which was supposed to raise the bar in console graphics

and to youre last point youre saying the 360 had less skilled developers making engines ground up for hardware they already knew was trumped by skilled developers making engines from the ground up for hardware that was almost unknown

like you guys should just give up because everytime a game comes out its the same thing

game is shown
its the best looking games ever
game is released
doesnt live up to hype
game is forgotten
rinse and repeat

it pisses me off because idk what to believe anymore

I'm imagining the end of the next demo to run something like this:

Soon, dozens of zombie-like, rabid, and very fast mutants emerge...

After defeating many of them, an enormous humanoid mutant boss about 15 feet tall wielding a huge grenade launcher emerged...

After dispatching the boss...A gargantuan, humanoid mutant at least 50 feet tall emerges from behind a building and howls with rage...

After dispatching the gargantuan boss, a tentacled mutant at least 500 feet tall emerges from over the hill...

After dispatching the hill-sized mutant, a 5 mile tall behemoth mutant peeks over the clouds...

After dispatching...

I hope the devs can break away from MS and take their IP's with them in the not to distant future. This entire consolidation and mass industry firings that MS has spearheaded has been nothing but a disaster for everyone except the already rich creatively bankrupt tw@ts at Microsoft.

MS is nothing but a drain on the entire gaming industry and every facet of it.

1Victor153d ago

There is precedent already with bungie separating from Microsoft but I doubt Microsoft will let them go out with their IP’s without paying a huge price

Good for them. From what I hear Microsoft supports it but unfortunately it still doesnt change much but its a step in the right direction. More devs across the entire industry should do this. But regardless, you just love to hate anything Microsoft or xbox. Who's fault is it that sony closed down studios? Who spearheaded that? What i don't understand is that if you hate Microsoft so much why the concern. If this bothers you so much you may want to find another hobby. Free up some of that mental energy for your own well being and stop worrying about shit you cant change.

@FlaggerD care to look at yourself in the mirror, obscure? It's like your 132456th account now, and all of them have you being obsessed with Sony. You just can't handle the fact they literally stomped on Xbox, LMAO! Juggernaut my ass haha. Xbots claiming Expedition 33 winning GotY is a win for Xbox because it was on Game pass is the funniest shit ever LMAO!

Good for them. With AI coming for their jobs and their new corporate overlords working overtime to replace them, it’s a smart move.

Notellin152d ago

It won't be long before Microsoft lays off everyone in gaming and routes that money over into AI.

Time for everyone at Xbox to update the resume and start coming up with Indie game pitches.

The point of unionizing is collective bargaining. Sadly, I do not believe they have any leverage, which is likely why Microsoft isn't impeding them: The investment in AI is gargantuan. We're talking about a data center in Wisconsin that's about 200 city blocks. That is massive and insane.
