The subscription is for a year, so if games go away if I don't pay the subscription next year then it's fine. I had a WHOLE year to play them, which is more than enough time for me.

It all depends on the type of content/games I get through PSN+ at the end, so I have to wait and see.

JUST LOOK AT THIS LIST and tell me which one are on XBL or not (it's pretty easy to decided if it will be worth $50 compared to XBL):
* Full game trial- Members will have access to full versions of designated PS3® and PlayStation Network titles including PS one® Archives (PS one® Classics). The titles on offer will be available for download on PlayStation Store for a stated period and change every month. Members will be able to play the full version of the game for a designated period and even after the trial period expires, users will be able to continue playing the game by purchasing the game on-line.
* Games - Member will be able to play the full version of designated PS3 downloadable and PlayStation Network titles including PS one Archives (PS one Classics) and minis with no limit of time as long as membership is effective. These games will become available exclusively for PlayStation Plus members at no extra cost.
* Special content - Content such as avatars and custom themes many of which are exclusive will become available for PlayStation Plus members at no extra cost.
* Discounts - Members will have access to exclusive discounts on designated PS3 and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) titles. Titles will vary every month on PlayStation Store.
* Early access - Members will have early access to designated new game beta trials, game demos and video content prior to public distribution.
* Automatic content downloads and updates - PS3 will automatically download and install designated game demos and game updates and also download the system software update data. PS3 will automatically start up at a designated time to download content and will turn off after the download has completed.

xbox live has a bunch of stuff i don't care about not related to gaming, if you take all that out it's not as good as PS+. you get a lot of stuff free of charge on PS+, xbl gives you nothing except for a feature or 2 and with everything else that should be free.

I'm surprised xbox gamers haven't demanded free online from MS without the features for silver members

There isnt too much difference between LIVE and PLUS.
BUT the only thing that Plus has over LIVE is the free content.
Which by the way has me already drooling NAY anxious to buy it!
FIRST day for me!

PS+ is nothing like Xbox live besides there being a fee. What Sony is doing doesn't make sense, unless of course, they think you guys are gonna buy anything they throw at you. PS+ reminds me alot what Qore was trying to do. While Qore wasn't a bad thing, it surely wasn't worth what they were offerning, and it seems this is just another iteration. I dont see any new applications, Where the hell is Steam? I thought Gabe came out for some reason, but I guess its just more politics? Fuck it man, Im not buying shit unless I get cross game chat, with or without PS+

Boo hoo, MS was stomped at E3 and I am upset. They just announced Steam yesterday. Did you post a comment about all of the things MS had to show that are not out yet either? Wait, most of their show was kinect so there you go.

That's why PSN will always be better than XBL to me. No worrying about whether or not you and your friends all have current subscriptions if you guys wanna play a game together. Just start the game up and go.

i have both consoles and xbox live is on another level. its more than worth the fee we have last fm by the way last fm is amazing the amount of songs ive found what id forgotten about is brilliant, sky player, better interface, cross game chat, party chat in games, exclusive content sometimes timed but who cares, soon we'll have espn and theres probably more i havnt mentioned i like psn but its not as good as live its the xbox main strengh, the ps3 has its strengths to but it cant compete with xbox live its the established leader in what it does

I'm definitely not saying the XBL is better, but I have XBL and PSN...I never have to worry about whether any friends have "current subscriptions".

You renew it once each year and for the rest of the year you just "start the game up and go"

@hen - You're gonna have to direct me to the part of my post where I said PSN has more features than XBL, because I just can't seem to locate it. Must be hidden somewhere.

Solid online gaming. That's my #1 priority on a gaming console. Since it's free on PSN, and usually a lot less laggy (personal experience), PSN > XBL for me. Netflix is something I use a lot as well, which also happens to be free on PSN as opposed to XBL.

@OSU - Yeah, cause every person everywhere renews once a year no matter what. I have friends I can't play games with right now because they don't use their 360 often enough to justify subscribing. I wanted to play the new Transformers demo with a friend last week, and even though I offered him a 48-hour online code, he couldn't get the demo cause he doesn't subscribe to gold.

You are making it sound like you have to check something every time you play a game to make sure your friend you are playing with has XBL. I think he knows before you agree to play something with him that he doesn't have it. And I think you know.

When my friend says..."yes ill play BFBC2 with you"...I don't think he has to go make sure that he has an XBLx Live subscription first. I think he know. And in that case he just "starts the game up and goes."

No, you're making it sound like I have to check something every time I wanna play a game. I didn't mean I literally had to scroll down through my list and see their status every time I wanted to play something. I meant on PSN you don't have that subscription tier hurdle, where all your friends have to be paying extra for gold if you wanna play with them. You just play if you've both got the game, period. It should never be more than that.

The beauty of the 360 fanboy rage I attract with my "online gaming should always be free" mindset, is that if I had my way, you guys would save money and play for free. Instead, I get attacked, and the unnecessary fees are defended. Powerful stupidity.

MS LIVE - Features. Features. Online Gaming. MORE FEATURES you have to pay for to use.

PS+ - Subscription for Free things, discounts, early beta access, and A feature: background/early downloading.

One set is necessary if you want to enjoy your console... the other is optional and basically pays for itself. I hope this clears up any confusion and makes anyone who says otherwise look like a tool.

@Basicameh514 - You get jack squat unless you pay on the 360. If you want to play games online with friends you have to pay. XBL loses based on that alone. Always has, always will.

Actually its winning I do believe. I'm pretty sure that there are more PAID subscriptions to XBL than there are FREE subscriptions to PSN.

PSN is awesome too, but don't bash XBL just because you don't have it and you are a PS3 fanboy.

The Sony camp here on N4G's main defense was not paying a cent for PSN. Now they're on here defending why they will pay 50 bux a year...and for what.

Discounted avatar items? (no thank you, HOME is garbage.)
A free PS1 games and two mini games? (seriously PS1?? How about some PS2 games?)
A hush hush maybe we might do cross game chat?
And early access to betas? (nope)

That's to justify 50 bux a year? I'm sorry but that is seriously lame. PSN offers FREE multiplayer and that is all I need. If you pay 50 bux for PSN+ a year then all your arguments against the Xbox fanboys are null and void, period.

Please don't spin it and act like Sony is giving you the best deals and the most content ever. Because besides multiplayer, Xbox 360 offers the same thing and more and they've done it from the beginning.

And Playstation + is still new. Give it time for crying out loud.

Discounted EVERYTHING. Not just Home items. Not just select games.
Free games. You're complaining about free games. And who is to say that PS2 games won't become available soon?
Cross game chat is coming. But every other form of communication is there. Including chat.
Access to certain betas, extra game demos, AND hour long gameplay (not demos. The actual game).

Xbox Live does NOT offer all of that. Minus the cross-game chat, PSN for free offers what Xbox Live offers.

Hes right, games *before hand* weren't involved with social sites like facebook,myspace...EXC, they were here to entertain.If i need social, i have a cell phone that can go on FB and talk all night and day, consoles are starting to lose there purpose(except nintendo)They are starting to act like little pc's with different multitask features, instead of appealing to the gamers, instead of trying to get everyone's attention, get your loyalties first ,since they are the ones that support you through your run, the others are just chump change.Remember, you cant please everyone, and while you are trying to please a different crowd outside the net, you are losing your base support by ignoring them, which in my case is a big no no.Xbox doesnt need celeb support, just becuz i see Micheal Jordan on espn or playing natal, it doesnt appeal to me to play it just becuz he is. What makes him better than me? im sure he cant be me on must games i play, does he have a higher gamer score than me?So no, instead of reaching out to people who dont give a shit about your product, come to your base line first, becuz we are going to be the ones to support you when you need your fans the most.

I am never going to pay for a service that in my book is unecessary cause the things i would have paid for is free and that would be gaming online so i see that this will suffer the same fate as Qure did.

The XBL is streamed to perfection, surely you need to pay for their service but i gladly does that cause their offering is unique.

so I already pay for Live so I'm not gonna pay for playstation + since the online gaming is still free. Now for folks that only own the PS3 if the content they are offering sounds appealing then go for it.

There are 2 aspects of PS+ I dont like, the fact that your content is rented instead of owned so youo lose it if you let your subscription lapse.

Also this:

PlayStation Plus members will be able to send invites to any member of the PlayStation Network, free or paid. Up to four PSN members can be in a party chat, however at least one participant must be a member of PlayStation Plus. The chat will discontinue if all paying members disconnect.

What your getting for the price apart from an hour on an old game. If your still gonna get demo's and beta access as it is now, then why join it ?.The worry is if they offer the demo's and beta's earlier like they do on gold live, then you'll be drawn into it. Imagine the K3 or GT5 demo being out or the beta and you have to be a ps+ member to play it.........oooh that'll hurt.

this is my opinon. so ill prepare to get as many disagrees as possible.
i believe xbox live has a more community based service then psn. ive seen my friend play live and its awesome how they are playing one game and his friend is playing another and they are having a conversation. or how u have a group of 8 friends and just having fun playing online. i think thats great. but... i dont like how u have to pay for the service. this is where ps3 is aweseome. ps3 has a amazing online that is stable and hardly ever lags. i just dont like how quite it is. sure u can play with friends but not as easy or slick as how xbox live does it. if xbox didnt have that i wouldnt even look at it. because nothing else interests me besides that.
