Well aside from the fact we have like 30 of these articles on the main page already...

Gamers win, obviously, that has to be said first and foremost.

And as a gamer, for me personally, I was most impressed with Nintendo. Why? Because I expected the least from them. I was most disappointed with MS, because I expected MORE from them. And I knew what to expect from Sony and because of that I got what I want (Twisted Metal, LBP2, iNFamous 2, K3, Move), and some things I didn't (which hopefully will be revealed at TGS or GDC, Versus, TLG, and Agent mainly).

I can't speak for everybody, but I think most people are in agreement. With that said, I do know some people enjoyed Nintendo by a country mile, Sony by a country mile, and I know of some people who even genuinely was impressed with MS. Everyone is entitled to their opinion because E3 is about impressing the gamer. But for me, that's how I saw it.

I'm now looking forward to both the PS3 (always have) and Wii (surprisingly). Man do I wish I had a Wii right now.

GWAVE5815d ago

Both Sony an Ninty were awesome. 3DS looks sweet. infamous 2 looks sweet. There is plenty to list.

Everyone can agree that Microsoft lost big time.

MexicanAppleThief5815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

You know, I though 343 Industries would unveil their first Halo project, but I guess that's for E3'11.

All in all, it was a good E3 for me, unfortunatley imo MS underdelivered.

Godmars2905815d ago

Microsoft showed no hardcore growth, which is why they failed.

deadreckoning6665815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

@GWAVE- Agreed. Both Nintendo and Sony did great and the gamers win, because E3 is an exhibition..not a competition. If I HAD to choose..I'd be Nintendo. Being a hardcore gamer, Nintendo catered to the hardcore crowd much better than Sony IMO. I almost crapped my pants when I saw Goldeneye!

But with all the good comes the bad. I'm very concerned about Microsoft's future, its a shame to see them go under this way. At one point, they were great competition for Sony..but now, not so much.

@Stan Lee- Infamous 2 looks AWESOME IMO and I didn't even play through Infamous 1. Day 1 buy for me!

StanLee5815d ago

Don't really like the new art direction in Infamous 2. I have this month's GameInformer and I really don't like the change. In Infamous Cole was a badass. In Infamous 2 he's a yuppy.

secksi-killer5815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

what did they win? a bazillion dollars? the race to the moon? ffs only fanboys sit there saying one or another company won e3.

for me i want

for my ps3
kz3
infamous2
gt5
twisted metal
socom

for my wii
zelda
donkey kong

for my 360
gears3
halo
fable3
crackdown2

and this is without all the multiplats that i will be buying. expensive!

but for me e3 was a little over-shadowed by the focus on motion controls. sony and microsoft are desperate to get a slice of nintendos action, and im not impressed! disagree all you want, both will not be getting bought!

@mexican apple thief

if microsoft have any sense, they will be creating that as a launch title for the next xbox in 2012. running on a "brand new" (instead of just modified engine from the first xbox) game engine that is made especially for a powerful new console

@ gwave, everyone can agree that you're an ultra fanboy, back under your rock please

King_of _the_Casuals5815d ago

Nintendo easily won. Sony a distant 2nd and MS right behind them at 3rd.

Dk Donkey Kong.......I can't wait for that looks awesome.

jagstatboy5815d ago

I would rather have a true sequel to DK64...not another 2D platformer.

SillySundae5815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

Kudo Tsunoda

Everybody loves this guy.

There it is.

Kurt Russell5815d ago

I found it a little disappointing all round - a few games peaked my interests, but most of them were kind of expected anyway... I'll be on for Twisted Metal, and I know I'll be suckered into Gears 3. I wanted less sequels really... And I am not going for any of the motion controls just yet :/

FreeMonk5815d ago

Nintendo just tipped it over Sony. If Sony put a little less time into showing off Move, and more into showing a few more hardcore games (Where the FCUK was The Last Guardian and Agent?), then they would of took it.

MS are definatly without a doubt last place. It sucked, and that's coming from a guy that buys a majority of his games on the Xbox 360. MS screwed up by forgetting the hardcore gamers, and instead tried to imitate Nintendo with Kinect.

Ult iMate5815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

It's just 2 hours wasn't enough for Sony to show all (and you forgot Resistance 3 and FF versus 13). ))) .

edgeofblade5815d ago

Another long time 360 fan who's calling it against MS. They bombed hardcore.

nycredude5815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

I think for me at least Sony catered to what I like the most, Nintendo made me wish I had kept my Wii, and although I wasn't sure about trading my 360 in for a gaming PC recently, MS's conference kind of made it easier to swallow.

colonel1795815d ago

"And as a gamer, for me personally, I was most impressed with Nintendo. Why? Because I expected the least from them."

That's the problem Sony has every E3, everyone expects too much from them that people get disappointed. If people had the same attitude towards Sony as with Nintendo, people probably would have been blown away by Sony's conference too.

Nintendo did an awesome job, but really what Nintendo is doing is just capitalizing on the trend of having all franchises remastered. If you look closely, very closely, Nintendo only announces their same franchises (which we all love though), and this conference in particular, was all about remakes, especially for the Nintendo 3DS. People is saying "Nintendo announced to new Zeldas", or "Nintendo announced a new Donkey Kong". No they didn't, they announced 1 new Zelda, and 2 remakes, but because people love them, and the trend today is being Nostalgic for games, they have the most advantage, because they have the most beloved characters, and older franchises.

Sony on the other hand, announces at least one new IP every E3. This year, was Sorcery (apart from the normal, predictable Move stuff). Even though they have a lot of sequels this year, they regularly give us something new to look forward to.

For me, Nintendo gave the most surprises, but sadly, they are surprises from the same franchises every time. And even though I am looking forward to most of them, the edge goes to Sony, because they showed 1 new hardcore game, that has potential to become a AAA game (Sorcery), so Sony took at least 1+ more risk that Nintendo

n4gno5815d ago

You are right colonel, stupid nostalgy and "surprises lovers".

everyone knows you can't compare casuals games + 1 or 2 "old games", on a gamecube+, vs the variety and quality of the ps3 offer.

by the way, don't forget that xbots will always prefer to say "nintendo win" than sony, even if sony win each years with real things for gamers :)

m235815d ago

I also thought Nintendo did the best, although a lot of them were old IPs. Sony did great as well, the showed a lot of different games which looked great. Microsoft did okay, the games they showed look awesome. Kinect looks cool as well, I just wish they showed something for the hardcore a bit more. But then again they aired it on TV for a reason.

BkaY5815d ago

did you skip the part of zelda presentation.. tht was a disaster...

"ohh everything was going fine in rehearsal.. we are getting an interference .. plz turn off you wireless devices.."

tht didnt happen with move or kinect.

peace

m235814d ago

haha, ya that part was horrible. I don't even have a wii, but I just enjoyed their conference the most. I am looking forward to Kinect, just hoping something for the hardcore gets shown.

pixelsword5815d ago

Microsoft had a very good showing, but for me, it was more like George Dubya Bush during the second Bush-Kerry debate: although the most recent showing was a lot better than the last, it still doesn't mean it was very good; although I loved that the new goldeneye is coming out. I don't know why they had Francisco Scaramanga without his trademark gun, Jaws looking so short, and Oddjob fling the hat off of his head when he didn't have one on to begin with; oh well; alpha stage and all that, I guess.

Sony kinda blew their wad early for me, so it wasn't a "wow" like it should have been, yet I loved that Twisted Metal is returning. I also liked that wizard game; it looked very creative. If it comes with surprises, then Sony Won for having Gabe onstage saying that the PS3 version of his game will be the best version.

I liked what I heard about Halo: Reach, Gears 3 and one kinect game from Microsoft, but for the most part, I wanted to see kinect games because I knew they had a thin lineup for regular games, and I didn't really get much on that.

No one really won to me, but I think that Sony and Nintendo lost the least, and Gabe's presence made it a lock for the least lost in my opinion.

poopface15815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

now I need to get a 3ds. Its got starfox and zelda but also MGS and Ninja gaiden. I hope capcom makes a 2d megaman X game for it..

Microsoft and sony did a good job at reminding me how happy I will be to continue playing games with the regular controllers.

NYPunk885815d ago

I could care less. The trash talking part of this event has ended and now it's time to focus on the games and just enjoy. I'm totally satisfied with Sony lineup and that's all that matters. Congrats to Nintendo and good luck to MS.

BkaY5815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

all three won.. why? all of em have games or gadgets i like, MS got gears (which looks great BTW) n kinect (tht dance game is cool), nintendo 3ds.. zelda look ok but they messed up the presentation lol.. finally Sony KZ3, Infamous2, move n holly mother of twisted metal..

now about the presentation to me sony has slight edge coz of KB lol... nintendo was right on the spot no gibberish just games... and sadly ms last coz of tht dancing nerd and guy in the sunnies (hate tht guy)...

in the end its a win for gamers..

peace

edit: how in the freaking hell i forgot the release date for GT5...damn i am a noob

Nobody "wins." It isn't a contest, it's different companies showing their products. You may LIKE one conference more than another but you can't "win" E3. I hate gaming journalism.

BubblesDAVERAGE5815d ago

If it wasnt a contest...then why have three different consoles and exclusives...

bobrea5815d ago

E3 is an EXPO. It's where companies show what they have to offer. It's not the video game publishers Championship. All it is is an expo. I'm not saying that Sony, Nintendo and MS aren't competing companies.

asdf125815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

Nintendo A

Sony A-

MS
D+

dinkeldinkse5815d ago

Nintendo C+ Support for the 3DS is impressive even though I am not that impressed with the 3DS itself.

Sony D Like Microsoft, spent too much time on motion controls and crap to take up time instead of showing more of their games.

MS D- Same as Sony

Gave Sony a D instead of D- because of the KZ3 demo

ThaOutKast5815d ago

Since when were "D-" and "D" the same?

dinkeldinkse5815d ago (Edited 5815d ago )

D and D- aren't the same. Sony had the same problems as Microsoft, but I bumped up their grade because of the KZ3 demo(I couldn't help it,I love the killzone franchise so much that I had to give Sony a little higher grade for showing the demo). Without the KZ3 demo, Sony would have gotten a D- like I gave microsoft.

Anyways, I thought Nintendo's was the best because it was ok and Microsoft's and Sony's just sucked.

ThaOutKast5814d ago (Edited 5814d ago )

Ok but you said "MS D- Same as Sony" after you gave Sony a "D" rating. I also don't see why you felt Sony deserved a D. They showed KZ3, GOW:GoS, LBP2, IF2, announced Portal 2 with Steam features with gabe Newell on stage, Kevn Butler, and more that weren't motion controlled plus games like Sorcery, Heroes on the Move, and Socom 4 all looked great even though the used the Move.

Philaroni5815d ago

Hard to say who won just due to the fact many can say Nent. won due to games but Sony still has a crap load more anyway just chose to show new stuff and make new announcement. After TGS and Games Con when they all have a chance to get everything in the open then I can decide.

If Sony would have did the price drop at E3 last year they would have hands down won but that was shown off later in the year and was the biggest single announcement of 2009 so anything like that could happen for the big 3 this year yet.

But for E3 if I had to pick? Nintendo. Sony I'd say yes to if PSN+ is what I think it is going to be. And I want to see how this Steam support pans out. Also if that coke deal pushes move then it will be a major deal.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio18d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing18d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit18d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing18d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk20d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10121d ago (Edited 21d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit20d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg20d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10120d ago (Edited 20d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14920d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay20d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn221d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn220d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown20d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay20d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay20d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac20d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger20d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300020d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde20d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde20d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
