PS3: It Only Does Twisted Metal

“It’s good to be back” says the recently revealed PlayStation 3 exclusive Twisted Metal trailer, and indeed it is good to have iconic PlayStation mascot ‘Sweet Tooth’ back onto the PlayStation family. David Jaffe coming onto the Sony E3 stage and announcing something which he has denied for oh so long must of shocked every PlayStation 3 owner watching the conference. Twisted Metal is back.

Question: If I haven't played any of the original Twisted Metal games..should I care about this one? People went crazy when they saw it at the conference so I'm wondering what all the hype was about.

@Dave-The-Rave- Yeah, I hope theres an open beta so I can decide itf its for me or not.

@imbaboss- I've been gaming since 1994. I've owned the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis 3, GBA(Pocket, Color, Advance, and SP), PS1, PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast, and PS3. I've heard of Twisted Metal in my PS2 days, but I never had the urge to see what all the hype on it was about.

Edit: Ummm..why I'm I getting disagrees? I'm asking a question..I didn't make a statement, something that can be disagreed with.

Simon_Brezhnev5816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

dead how long have you been gaming? Twisted Metal was even on N64 lol.

edit:
my bad it was Vigilante 8

Montrealien5816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

@imdaboss

All good, we all slip up once in a while.

what? Twisted metal was never on the N64...You may be confusing this with Vigilante 8 maybe? Twisted Metal is a Sony IP. Who agreed with you? this place is insane...rofl

and yeah, Twisted Metal is a great combat game. I spent many nights with my PS1 and friends fighting, it was one of the reasons the PS1 was so bad ass in the day.

Now, time for more singletrack classics, Jet Moto and Rogue Trip 2! and Critical Dpth! Although I think Atari own the Critical depth and Rogue Trip Ips, they where published by GT interactive.

Kleptic5816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

EDIT: aw beat me to it haha...

yeah i promise you it wasn't twisted metal on N64...you are probably thinking of Vigilante 8...which arguably became the better car combat franchise once 989 studios took over development of Twisted metal 3 and 4...as those two games sucked...

TM, as Jaffe stated at E3, is the longest running Sony franchise...its always been owned by Sony...and it was Kutaragi himself that gave Jaffe and campbell the greenlight back in 1994 (even though he claimed he felt the game should use fruit instead of cars??!) to make it a launch title for the PS1...

anyway, yeah, you should be excited...its been almost 10 years since the last one...so its definitely not in the spot light currently...but watch as this game becomes one of the best of 2011 I would imagine...you can get TM2, arguably the best TM ever made, as a PS1 classic on the PSN for like 5 dollars...well worth it if you have never played the series...it will look like crap, but still play better than many modern games...

bjornbear5816d ago

i just never came across it

HOWEVER

I LOVED VIGILANTE 8, so i KNOW I will love TM

its car battle games, and TM is notorious for being the best ever. so =D

evrfighter5816d ago

It only does twisted metal?

no...

It BETTER do twisted metal otherwise my ps3 purchase would have been for nothing.

fuckoffodion5815d ago

please, you've been acting like your ps3 is the second step child ever since you started trolling evrfighter you PC fanboy.

I saw that trailer and it was like coming home. Sweet!

raztad5816d ago

Tooth? :D

To be honest I tried TM:Head On (PSP) but never went online. Looking forward to this game.

Kurt Russell5816d ago

I haven't played this since the PS1! I'll be buying it, but I do hope it plays at 60 fps - all racers no matter how much combat should!

gamerzBEreal175816d ago

i played the PS1 part2 and that was supposedly the worst one and that one was kickass to me so idk if u like destroction and clowns u should be very hyped for this

Kleptic5816d ago

^^Jaffe said TM2 was the best one...it was 3 and 4 that were awful, and he didn't make them...

1 was awesome, but was very obviously rushed to meet up with the release of the PS1...TM2 was how it was 'supposed to be' according to singltrac at the time...3 and 4 were made by different studios...then Jaffe and Campbell put the old team together, under Incognito, and made TM black for the PS2...depending on the fan you talk to, its either black or TM2 thats the best...I loved 2, but enjoyed Black a little more because of the much darker art style...and it was black that made sweet tooth awesome...

FACTUAL evidence5816d ago

It's cool that TM is finally on the ps3. I was always imagining a TM game coming to the ps3. I know the game just got announced, and is getting released next year, but the graphics look so unpolished. I must say the way I'd imagine a next gen TM game made my standards too high.

I have to say that this title for a ps3 exclusive does not stand up to standards in the graphics department. Gameplay, can't really say. I loved the other TM's so most likely I'm going to love the gameplay. Man, when I was imagining a TM game for a ps3, I was thinking of HI-res explosions, and nice textures on UC2 level. Guess I was wrong. I know it would be a great game still, but I'm upset about the looks of it so far to be honest.

darx5816d ago

that motorcycle character, he's lame.

The game looks so fun, my buddy and I have been speculating about a current gen twisted metal and how awesome it would be for years now. Now in 2010 we finally get a taste! Thank you Sony and Nintendo for providing the games that are close to my heart.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8521d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele21d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk21d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay20d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10121d ago (Edited 21d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit20d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg20d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10120d ago (Edited 20d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14921d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle34d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit34d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog34d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog34d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad34d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_34d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage34d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda34d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
