Will Europeans always hate Twisted Metal?

The Twisted Metal series has never sold much in Europe, which is weird and hard to explain. So PLAY asked some Europeans – why don’t Europeans love Twisted Metal? And what can be done to make Europeans love Twisted Metal?

I myself never heard of this game before this E3, and the couple weeks of news just before E3. Before E3 i thought it was an unannounced arcade game or something.
Just looked it up on wikipedia and it's an entire franchise =/

raztad5828d ago

Yeah it's a full fledged franchise, the last iteration TM:Head On was on the PSP. I think it's a game better suited for consoles due to its highly competitive multiplayer nature.

Good thing the original team is on board.

IRetrouk5828d ago

when did you start gaming? twisted metal has been around from ps1 days. on topic europe is the games biggest fanbase.

Baka-akaB5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

No it's not big in europe , we've heard about the game since ps1 era , but europe as a whole hardly cared .
So many of us were actually surprise to see such high demand for a ps3 version from jaffe .

It's good and fun , but never really caught over there .

IRetrouk5828d ago

sorry my bad, was mad popular with me n mates from school, quess it was just us then lol

Eamon5828d ago

I'm one of those europeans. From UK actually.

I heard of this game but never really got interested to see what it's about.

After seeing the multiplayer demo at Sony's conference it didn't really appeal to me much.

I kinda wish Sony used their slot for The Last Guardian or FFvs13 instead.

tdrules5828d ago

TGS will fill your Wapanese needs I'm sure...

Monk3y5827d ago

been hell happy if only thing in E3 would've been Twisted Metal..

Yes im from eur, Finland.

-MD-5828d ago

"I myself never heard of this game before this E3"

Were you alive in the 90s?

FreeMonk5828d ago

I'm from the UK, and I love the Twisted Metal series.

I wasn't a big fan of the original Twisted Metal on the PS1, but Twisted Metal World Tour on the PS1 was superb. I can still remember getting my friends around for Multiplayer action!

Unfortunatly I never played Twisted Metal Black on the PS2. I may have to hunt a copy down!

Theonik5828d ago

Same thing here. Never even heard of it before i started to hear rumours about the sequel and i have been gaming since the early 90's

Tomdc5828d ago

I too have gamed since PS1 and never heard of it till i heard people were asking for a new iteration in the series. (Live in UK btw)

I'm not that excited. Don't get me wrong i mean the game looked amazing for what it is but i don't particuarly like games in vehicles and don't think something like that can offer to much in the way of depth compared to other games i like :)

PrimordialSoupBase5827d ago

At first appearance it's for juggalos... but I withstand the style for the great game that it is.

Maybe Europe isn't so forgiving.

pain777pas5827d ago

Is this an open world game cause that's what it looked like and there seems to be some customization options here too. They could make this game really great if you can build your own vehicle and deck out your own racer whether male or female. Got to admit I want this game.

SuperMassiveGav5827d ago

No, it's not open world. It's a deathmatch shooter with lots of special moves and power-ups. Customisation isn't a feature of the series either. I guess it could work, but it's not really what the series is about either. The characters are more like beat-'em-up characters.

I'm european and I've always loved the series. Especially the Paris stage in TM 2: World Tour ;p

DanyBrown5828d ago

Couldn't agree more i have fond memories of playing this game as a kid in France, and blowing up the eiffel tower was just pure genius. lol

Corrwin5828d ago

Twisted Metal has always been the ginger stepchild of car-combat games for me.

I don't know why :|

Corrwin5827d ago

Nice to see so many people can't tell the difference between an opinion and some body telling them what to think.

Morons.

cwir5828d ago

I'm European and I love it! Me and my mates used to smoke weed and play Twisted Metal all days long during summer holidays back in high school :)

XXXCouture5828d ago

smoke weed for playing twisted metal? wtf lol... smoke weed to kinectimals

cwir5828d ago

well it was right after we discovered weed so we smoked it to everything

Theonik5828d ago

I thought you were mexican! :O
You lied to us :'( are you really an apple thief?

MexicanAppleThief5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

Well I'm actually English, but I've made the name mexicanappletheif because I thought the name was hilarious. Maybe I should change my name to EuropeanAppleThief?

Wow cyberpunk is a great pick up. If you haven’t played it you should definitely give it a try

Christopher324d ago

Banishers was dragged down by the need to go back to old areas multiple times.

GhostScholar325d ago

Also if you bought it at launch and couldn’t deal with all the bugs it’s a totally different game now

stupidusername325d ago

Played it on release and thought it was a mess. But I'm currently playing it again now on both PS5 and Switch 2 with cross save progression, and it's really different to how I remember it. Really enjoying it now, and it's really polished and immersive.

darthv72325d ago

Despite owning the 2077 One X console and the steelbook edition of the game... i still have never played it. I may actually give 2077 a try (via the portal) as there has been so much talk about it again, thanks to SW2 and now this comparison vid from DF. https://youtu.be/SvGQik3m6a...

dveio325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

I think it's an okay decision or happening.

iirc, wasn't there even a new and probably last update coming soon announced recently?

I've never played 2077, neither. (I am still a bit mad about their ... well, anyway.)

But I think it can't get better to play that game, or any game for that matter, in a 100% complete, fully updated build.

DivineHand125325d ago

Cyberpunk and Risk of rain 2 are the best of the bunch. Not a bad month if you are one of the few that haven't played those games.

yeastori325d ago

Cyberpunk is probably one of the best games I've ever played, even when it came out with all the bugs and glitches and broken gameplay on consoles, I still loved it at its core because the world was exactly what I wanted in a dystopian vision of the real future and the story was actually well done and compelling. With the fixes and then Phantom Liberty I just knew that this game could've been GOTY winner if it hadn't been released too early and released on PS5. XBX and two years later.

shinXseijuro325d ago

Might give cyberpunk a chance now that the game redeemed itself . Is it only the basic game or with the newer content ?

xHeavYx325d ago

According to the article, it's just the base game, but the DLC will be 30% off

TM3 is my favorite but I'll take what they bring out gladly. Fun times back in the day and great soundtracks

Cacabunga607d ago

Last one on ps4 wasn’t good at all.
Hoping for some good reboot or remake of the first 3

Dagexon607d ago

You mean the one on ps3?

Cacabunga607d ago

Yes i do, thanks! I realized too late couldn’t edit

badboyz09607d ago (Edited 607d ago )

Lego 2K Drive features an exciting mode called Brick Brawl, inspired by Twisted Metal. Players can create, share, and upload various cars, including ones like Sweet Tooth. The game boasts thousands of custom cars, ranging from the Batmobile to the Sweet Tooth ice cream truck.

InUrFoxHole607d ago

Never understood the like for the series. Not my bag but I know a lot of gamers are clamoring for a new game and liked the TV. Series

TiredGamer607d ago (Edited 607d ago )

TM1 and 2 are time period classics. They were a bit rough, ugly, and grungy, but they felt right during the time period they were released and they scratched that early console “death match” itch before FPS games would completely swallow that market.

Many great memories with friends playing couch co-op and 1v1. Short, and quick-and-dirty gameplay that we returned to over and over. I’d buy a remake or proper remastering of the first two games day one.

InUrFoxHole607d ago

Lol, nice! I remember having the tiger handheld or watch..

FinalFantasyFanatic606d ago

I played those so much as I kid, I bought the Twisted Metal games that were on PSN as Playstation Classics, wow, they feel clunky by today's standards, they could really use the remake/remaster treatment.

UltimateOwnage607d ago

Twisted Metal: Black is when the series really hit for me. I still love that game so much. It was kind of downhill for the series after that IMO. I'd love to see the series go back to its roots, but I don't hold out a lot of hope for David Jaffe coming back from where he is these days to oversee development of a competent sequel.

Snookies12607d ago

Black was the pinnacle in my opinion. I adored TM1 and TM2, for sure. But Black brought it to a whole new level of awesome.
