It would be financial suicide if they did.

...they would need to side with a major player looking at getting into the console gaming stakes. Apple seems like the logical choice. However, why would Apple need Sega as they have there own library of shovelware to leverage off :)

I know you guys probably won't believe me but I will just say it anyway.

About an year or two ago, some guy friend requested me on PSN. I have no idea how he got my PSN, probably from some online game. A little while after, he claimed that he worked for SEGA. I was like, ok cool then he went on telling me that SEGA is working to get back in the console business. Of course, with common sense, I didn't believe him but I said to him how that would be nice and such just to be nice. Now with couple of articles claiming that SEGA is planning to make a new console is starting to make me think that this guy was actually telling the truth... So if SEGA is indeed coming out with a console, I won't be surprised at all. Unfortunately, he deleted me after telling me all about this.

What I've remembered him telling me, they were planning to include 1TB HDD and will use Blu-Ray as the console's disc format. Let's see if that does happen.

I would really want Sega to succeed with this. I've always love both their hardware and software.

Tbh Some of sega games are good but none of them are that good for them to actually have people buy their console least IMO. It was very sad the way the playstation 1 basically raped them. I use to like sega but they are the past now And I love to many of sony games to jump ships to them. Maybe some people will but I know I won't sorry =(

this would be a bad bad move, their dreamcast was better than playstation2 (content and techwise) but it still got murdered and it was first to market. casual market sewn up and hardcore market sewn up. they would really need something game changing to even make a dent in the market.

if i see good games when/if they ever announce one i will gladly support them. Sega as a console maker were great, they never really left a sour note in mind when it came their consoles.

Sega has a SHIT load of IP's, they've always been ahead of themselves, it's just they never get behind things at the right time.

Yes sega do it....I will be waiting in line for the new one just like i did with the dreamcast which kicked ass. Truth be told this is hard to beleave even tho i would love to see it happen.

I remember Alex Kid in Miracle World, Phantasy Star 1 & 2, Ghostbusters, Fantasy Zone, Double Dragon, Monopoly, the list goes on and on! Sega Master System rocked!

I wonder if they can afford to push a console on a loss for 10 years... probably not. I can't see them having much flexibility if there system causes financial difficulties.

I'll watch it, but I'm not buying one. The other Sega consoles never had a 'great' lineup. Only thing that's annoying is, I guess I won't get to play Yakuza 5, and so on?

maybe it will be a machine with lots of built in games from segas back catalogue (genesis - dreamcast - arcade) and will have emulators so you can put in saturn and dreamcast discs.

Get to work on Shenmue 3, Sonic Adventure 3, Crazy Taxi 3, Condemned 3, Panzer Dragoon 3, Otogi 3, House of The Dead 5, get Soul Calibur (6?) exclusively, Virtua Fighter 6, Virtua Cop (not on rails), and whatever Kamiya and Platinum pulls out of their asses (it'll be insane and it will be good) ready at launch and you'll be the console to beat. Just be sure to support it smart this time.

i love sega, but please no! That woud definetly be one console to much on the Market. I liked how Sega develop for all other Platforms and Nintendo too. That woud be completly nullified then...

Sega doesn't have the cash, leadership, vision, or developers to bring out another console.

The Sega Dreamcast debacle shows you that Sega is finished. I believe this is just an over hyped rumor.

Sega can not compete with Nintendo Microsoft Sony and the PC not to mention Apple if they enter the video game market unless... Sega make a system in cooperation with Apple

I dont think Sega has the funds to get into gaming again - Unless MS pays them 200M for an exclusive game {shenmue 3). I kid I kid. The only way I can see them getting back into consoles gaming is if they team up with one of the current makes (like Sony and Nintendo almost did)

I love the sega of old. But first they need some good gaming ip's. What would they put on there. Sonic, and Alpha protocol. Yeah shenmue is cool, and a few other's could be great. But the dev teams just don't have the know how anymore. Well I don't know, it would be cool. But even if it's real I don't know how great this will be.

That's was abvius from the begining. When nintendo sold gimmic to the masses and earned tons of money without even builing a new console, while using the old one with a new shape, it was abvius that sony and microsoft will not make the same mistake, and will not build a Hi tec nex gen consoles.

No, everyone is going into make tons of backs on gimmics and we, the hardcore gamesrs are fucked up, while grandma will be happy.

If this is the case, i hope Sega will enter the market , with a new console that will be supirier to the others in term of graphics and hardware, and i hope it will be success. This is the only case that will fix what nintendo did to the market!

You know what guys, there comes a point in time where enough is enough. With the amount of handhelds and consoles on the market today, how many videogame systems can one man own with out killing himself. I mean, if this rumor were to come true, can you imagine having and keeping up with 3 or 4 consoles? Plus your PSP and/or DS.

After a while, it's just too much money. I'd like to see what they'd do with it if this does happen, but I don't think I'd buy it. The Market is just WAY too crowded.

It would be almost impossible for them to enter the console race when several of their titles are in development for other consoles that are always bound by contracts.

I would love to see a Dreamcast 2 if done right but since it's Sega that will never happen. For example Sega Mega CD Sega 32X Sega Saturn all total failures and then the Sega Dreamcast which was actually better than the PS2 but lacked the first party titles to take it over the top.

Sega doesn't have the cash, vision, or leadership to battle Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo in the console arena. I can only see Sega entering the market if Microsoft bows out of the console market and returns to the PC market (to battle Apple) leaving it up to Sega Sony and Nintendo.

Sega to be successful needs to make the Dreamcast 2 like a mid level PC and crank out AAA first party games in 1080p installed to a HDD through Digital Distribution with free online play.

Ill regardless the next gen of consoles will be the last so Sega will fail either way as consoles will be glorified PC's and the saturation of the console market will lead to it's collapses leaving the PC Apple Sony and Nintendo handhelds as the only survivors.

Sega would have to produce a console that would dominate Sony' PS4 and I just don't see that happening as Sony's technology and first party developers are TOP NOTCH!
