How Kinect Connected With Me During E3 2010

From the PlanetXbox360 feature editorial:

"After watching the Microsoft E3 2010 press conference, it wasn’t too much of a shock at what exactly was shown off over the course of the keynote. Games like Halo: Reach, Fable III and Gears of War 3 were all titles anyone would have expected to see, it seems the main attraction was Project Natal, recently renamed Kinect, is what without a doubt stole the show. While many gamers are certainly frustrated, if not fed up with the amount of motion controls that are being forced down their throats by the big three console producers, it is difficult to avoid the cold hard fact that by dramatically improving on the basic technology, it is standing to improve the overall medium."

is without a doubt what stole the show....WTF REALLY???

Did this guy wach the same show as the rest of us? lmao

baraka0075823d ago

I agree with you. I thought all of E3 has been pretty good but everything that had to do with Kinect was just crap.

qface645823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

im guessing this guy is enjoying his free 360 S *wink wink*

ChozenWoan5823d ago

He must have kept the spaceponcho and drank the juice.

I kid I kid I kid you not.

nnotdead5823d ago

i'll probably get another warning for giving you a bubble, but that was funny.

emk20045823d ago

hes probly making the zultan hand sign with the rest of his crew.

Tony-A5823d ago

That new 360, date and price must have not done much for him. It did kind of get about the same about of buzz, surprisingly.

ThatCanadianGuy5823d ago

"Planetxbox360" Don't expect anything other than ass kissing from them..

ElementX5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

What about PlaystationLifestyle? Nothing but praise for PS3.

Point is, there are sites catering to each platform.

mythamp5823d ago

Point is, your point is pointless as no one is talking about ps3 except you.

ElementX5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

My point, 360 sites will praise 360 stuff even if it's bad, same way PS3 sites say everything about Sony is amazing. I'm not disrespecting PS3, it's the only console I play. I'm just saying that fanboy sites will praise their console of choice. Canadian guy mentioned the site liked it because it's pro-360, I mentioned there are pro-PS3 sites as well.

Console specific sites are biased

ThanatosDMC5823d ago

He must have liked the free xbox if he got one.

Hallmark Moment5823d ago

Yep people on the show floor are digging Microsoft's offerings as well. You can clown how you thought Microsoft's conference was a let down but the offerings themselves were solid and have more impact in real life. The only thing that came close was the 3DS.

When all is said and done:
#1 Nintendo
#2 Microsoft
#3 Sony

Corepred45823d ago

lol your such a clown. a funny one though.

Tony-A5823d ago

This goes to show you that no matter how obvious things are for everyone around you, YOU still think the total opposite because you're just that delusional.

You need some rest. You've seen too much positive Sony press today.

Keltik825823d ago

How can you be that completely retarded?

When all said and done:
#1 Sony
#2 Nintendo

If you notice M$ did such a horrific job and had such an embarrassing press conference that I didn't even add them in there. Go play Kinectimals or jump on some clouds.

5823d ago
ALFAxD_CENTAURO5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

If you see the source, is obvious.

''The first game shown off was Kinectimals, which was a virtual pet simulator of the highest, incredibly awesome order. ''

SOAD5823d ago

It's only a 360, man. If someone gave me a free 360, I'd say, "Um, okay, I already have one so why would I write a positive review."

How can you bribe a reviewer with something he already has?

callahan095823d ago

Because he doesn't already have the NEW version of the 360 with built-in Wi-Fi, the sleeker, prettier shell casing, which has more hard drive space and runs quieter and uses less power? I have a 360, but it's an old one that runs loud as a jet engine, has a measly 20gb hard drive which has been full for ages with XBLA games that I don't want to delete to make room for new stuff, and doesn't have Wi-Fi built-in. Hell, I'm not even excited about many upcoming 360 games (Halo, Gears, Fable, the only 3 worth note, and Kinect is totally uninteresting to me) but I want the new 360 just because it's so much nicer than the old one I've got and maybe it'll reinvigorate my desire to play some of the older 360 games I never got around to before. My point is, just because he already had a 360 doesn't mean that he couldn't be excited to get the new one, and FREE.

Eddie201015823d ago

Did he get fisted.......in the face?

SOAD5823d ago

If it stole the show it did it in a bad way. I guess in terms of publicity it stole the show, but most of the publicity was negative.

The tech behind kinect is undoubtedly good. We haven't played it so who can we watch and say this sucks, when they have hands-on.Some games look uninteresting but then again we haven't played it.

Kyur4ThePain5823d ago

and from the looks of it, neither did the people on stage at E3. The smoke and mirrors surrounding Kinect was just too obvious to ignore.

Serjikal_Strike5823d ago

no ..I just repeating what the article said....
Kinect did not steal the show...probably safe to say the 3ds did!

SignifiedSix5823d ago (Edited 5823d ago )

And don't forget that they mentioned that they can make it even better through software updates.. Don't be thinking its crap just yet.

Edit: Ahh, i like when fanboys disagree for no reason... Pathetic losers.

Sheikh Yerbouti5823d ago

That's what Microsoft said about the RROD problem. Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it.

Kingofalltrolls5823d ago

LMAO MS having the worst E3 of any company ever has really butt hurt you turds huh?

nnotdead5823d ago

can't say the tech is crap, but what Microsoft showed for software was. i think more people on gaming sites are looking more at the software, and morning shows can play up the cool new tech for the casual crowed.

BYE5823d ago

They had enough time to get their stuff ready for this E3 but weren't able to show anything impressive...except Dance Central if you're into dancing. That might be fun.

SOAD5823d ago

And this one joined 9 hours ago. I'm just curious as to whether these new-comers are just veterans with new accounts.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 5823d ago
SignifiedSix5823d ago

Not really... I'm happy for what they announced. Shouldn't you be on the PS3 section talking about all of the things they have this E3, or do you have nothing better to do but be a fu**ing idiot? No wonder you have only one bubble...

nnotdead5823d ago

or maybe we can talk about everything gaming? instead of drawing lines and not crossing them.

wwm0nkey5823d ago

Kinect is a really amazing device, yeah guys it does appeal to the casual games but it is just fun! I had a blast playing it earlier today but in my mind the 3DS just completely took the show from everyone lol

nygamer285823d ago

you were their too?......amazing device(terrible games)MS really needs to take full advantage of kinect in the future

Bnet3435823d ago

These are entry games for them would be my guess. I guess they want to test out what it can do. I wasn't impressed with the games but although it's not my type of game, Dance Central really showed off how well Kinect will be. The full body motion gaming was not possible until Kinect. It's like having 48 dots on your body. That's why Harmonix said it and that's why people are calling it the first true dancing game. Again, not my type of game, and I'm not many, but still impressive.

Biggest5823d ago

Are you trolling yourSELF, Kigmal? Go back and watch that dance demo. You tell me if the professional dancer looked better, worse, or exactly the same as the nerd guy. Actually, don't tell me. I already know the answer. For the sake of your wallet and whoever depends on your responsible money decisions. . . Don't fall for the trick. What they showed you was not real.

And the answer is C.

muzikjunkie805823d ago

ppl do realise its still 5 months away from release and whos to say thats the only games that are ever gonna be made for it? for all everyone knows all major 3rd party devs might have games in the works right now for its release and beyond.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio26d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing26d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit26d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing26d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

gamedeveloper.com
Eonjay28d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn229d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn228d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown28d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay28d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay28d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac28d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger28d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300028d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde28d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde28d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_27d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
