Xbox speculation: $50 cut on August 8

Retail sources reported that a $50 price cut for Xbox 360 will be made on August 8. The timing coincides with the releases of Madden NFL 08, Bioshock, and Stranglehold. Still unclear is whether the reduction will be made to all three Xbox 360 versions.

I guess no wonder Microsoft kept on talking of $250 as the sweet spot

the_round_peg6875d ago (Edited 6875d ago )

$50 price cut at E3, (so my timing was off.)

Plus another $50 price cut after Halo and before the shopping season of 2007.

Total price cut by the end of the year = $100, which will make Core $199 = the "sweet spot" Microsoft has been talking about.

SuperSaiyan46875d ago

The only 'sweet spot' Microsoft have always talked about is 720p as far as I am aware, please link to where they have always said $250 being a sweet spot because I must have missed it.

The games listed come out near the end of August, also 24th August is when the ELITE is released in Europe therefore it would be good to reduce the price in Europe on all SKU's as well as Microsoft still hasn't officially told retailers in Europe what the price is for the ELITE so if there is a price cut it *could* mean the ELITE and the other SKU's could indeed be being reduced in price.

sorry, its sort of 4 in the morning so not in a mood to search, I think it was Moore or someone else who said that as they were sort of praising Wii

Xeoset6875d ago

A $50 price cut seems justifiable, but they don't exactly need it.

At the moment, it's selling great, but they need some form of boost to throw them forward and that's where they're games come in. Just looking at Q3 and Q4 games for the 360 and each month starting August there will be 3 AAA titles coming out, though my laziness has kicked in, I'll just type two.

August: Bioshock, Blue Dragon
September: Halo 3, Eternal Sonata
October: GTAIV, Beautiful Katamari
November: Mass Effect, PGR4
December: Lost Odyssey, Ace Combat 6

There's alot more coming, I really don't have the money this holiday season, I don't even have it for all the great games coming next month lol.

At this moment it's not selling well at all,you are just a fanatic blind xbot, pfffffff

Xeoset6875d ago

Go look at the European and American sales ;)

Christ, a PS3 price cut only managed to wrestle 2k ahead of it and then the 360 went straight back infront.

And your calling me a fanatic? GTFO troll, if you really like being in this section and seeing all the amazing 360 games, just go buy a 360, we know how much you Sony Fanboys desire one.

SorenK6874d ago

That gaming line-up is so crazy. Starting in August the 360 is going to start wreaking havoc on my life.

I can pick up a toaster oven for $20 at Walmart that will last me ten times longer.

the_round_peg6875d ago (Edited 6874d ago )

or Bioshock, or Ace Combat 6, or Gears of War, or Halo 3.

SlippyMadFrog6875d ago (Edited 6875d ago )

I bet the toaster doesn't have a 3 year warranty, Mmmmm :)

Elite in UK is £330

Premium is £280

Core is £190

I dont see us getting a price cut here tbh.

Firestorm6875d ago (Edited 6875d ago )

I reckon if the ps3 gets a price cut in the uk, the 360 will do also. I hope for Microsoft's sake that it will be more than $50, thats like 25 pounds over here and probably wont really make much of an impact.

they should just go for it and drop off $100 and end this console war.

crazyman6874d ago

I realy hope its more than £25 otherwise even when its free in the states it'll still be about £50-100.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
