IGN: E3 2010: SOCOM 4 PlayStation Move Preview

ign.com: I'm going to play SOCOM 4. Seeing as how I'm in charge of IGN's PlayStation coverage, that shouldn't be a shocker, but what is surprising -- to me at least -- is that I'm going to play it with the PlayStation Move. By choice.

HighDefinition5811d ago

That looks awesome, much improved over the last vid we saw.

Plus, he`s actually playing it. :P

Wrathman5811d ago

im biting my tongue here..but in the nicest way possible..

this game doesnt look very difficult or intense.

ArcFatalix5811d ago

go play kinectimals and stop bothering us jealous guy

ShinMaster5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

The precision is great! And it seems to work pretty well.

@Wrathman, I'm pretty sure the difficulty can be easily cranked up. And more than likely you'll get destroyed online.

stb5811d ago

lol WRATHMAN.....Oh come on...no nata to defend, what left...bash move!!!

TRY HARDER.

Panthers5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

I was never into the whole motion thing with any console, but I am a Socomer through and through. I cant wait to see some gameplay with a regular controller. This game looks amazing. I just hope I have time to play when it releases lol.

Oh, and as far as Wrath is concerned, this is an E3 demo. They wont make it hard or intense. They just want people to try the motion controller with Socom.

The Wood5811d ago

why the tool as ur avatar.

On topic, this is looking good. 'playably' good

Simon_Brezhnev5811d ago

I'll get move just for shooters i despise the dual shock for shooters.

jadnice5811d ago

"Move" will greatly improve precision shooting (the greatest advantage PC shooters have over consoles.. with mouse movement). The dual shock sticks just cannot compare the Move pin point accuracy... shooters or more so Online play will be EPIC.

Thank U Nintendo for thinking outside the box and making this happen. U go to give credit when its due.

raztad5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Even though I'm not interested in anything from Nintendo, and seriously despised the whole motion controller thing, they deserve credit for making it mainstream. Now is Sony turn, and MOVE looks like hitting all the necessary spots to improve shooters playability.

BTW, game looks smooth and very nice. Never been too much into Socom but I'll keep this on my radar.

Christopher5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

First thing I noticed was that the graphics looked much better than what they showed on GTTV the other night. I was not impressed with the SOCOM 4 advert they showed graphical-wise. This looks to be a big improvement on that.

@Wrathman: I didn't see it as being too easy or lacking intensity. I liked that pretty much each cover choice was a bomb waiting to go off with the first grenade thrown your way (meaning, exploding cars). It was about as intense as most tactical shooters and isn't intended to be a big onslaught of enemies like most FPS games.

sikbeta5811d ago

I want to see 2 Factions Playing SOCOM4, The Dualshock 3 SOCOM Veteran Faction VS The PlayStation Move Newcomer Faction and see by Myself if What The Zipper Team Said is True, they said Move Players OWN DS3 Players...

Christopher5811d ago

Why would you put a veteran against a newcomer? Why not vet against vet?

BeOneWithTheGun5811d ago

And I dont have to stand up to use it! Can be used from recliner! Sweet!

harrisk9545811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

"It feels like a real control scheme and not a gimmick."

Wow... quite a difference in tone and impression of the Move technology than the articles that came out following Nata--- er, I mean Kinect's unveiling.

himdeel5811d ago

...which leads me to believe this game is a 5 player co-op through single player.

I'm excited about using move for these types of games.

DeltaZ3R055811d ago

this game looks f!cking BEAST! it's starting to feel like Socom 2 omg, this level reminds me of the mission in socom 2 where you had to save the peace keepers.

Hyrius5811d ago

Looks awesome, you no longer have to touch the border of the screen to turn.

Jrome5811d ago

That was my only concern. Day 1.

jaredhart5811d ago

Move was designed with gamers in mind.

BeaArthur5811d ago

We'll see how much everyone loves Move with their SOCOM when they go online and get destroyed by the rest of us using controllers.

Dioxinis5811d ago

i dunno man i'd think with some practice move could be way more precise then controllers

BeaArthur5811d ago

True, but the most elite player with a controller will probably always be better than the guy using motion controls, no matter how good they are. I'm not saying you can't be good or enjoy the game using Move but I think it should have it's own playlist. Not to mention you probably won't be able to play as much with Move because your arms will start to get tired.

The Wood5811d ago

lactic acid is a b!tch. There will probably be some elite guys who will own pad guys. Time will tell.

project-exodus5811d ago

yeah i agree, what makes it any different than a mouse really, its pretty much a mouse used in 3d space

thor5811d ago

Well just look at Warhawk for an example. I always used the analogue sticks myself, but there were a few players who were absolutely amazing who used the sixaxis. Personally I think that people won't use Move because they won't buy it; "just to try it out" is not much reason to pay £100...

sikbeta5811d ago

Guys, Remember what Zipper themselves said, Move Players beat DS3 Players...

AKS5811d ago

People won't buy Move? Many hardcore players don't want it right now because they haven't played the few hardcore Wii games available with decent shooting mechanics. They just think of wildly flailing and waggling their arms while playing casual shovelware. But they will quickly change their minds when they start getting thrashed online by people using Move. Try Resident Evil 4 out on the Wii and watch your accuracy skyrocket. Headshots galore. I've played a hell of a lot of RE4, too. I've played through the GC, PS2, and Wii versions and know how to play that game. Controls with the Wiimote blows the other two versions away. Go ahead and don't believe me. Just try it yourself.

ATLGAMER5811d ago

A little bit of a auto aim option...but it should be an option

Simon_Brezhnev5811d ago

lmao if you think it needs autoaim u shouldnt be playing motion controls

Redempteur5811d ago

well move weems quite precise so i doubt it'll happen ..

at the least there will be a time when move players will have to adapt

AtatakaiSamurai5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

No SOCOM vet is looking to play SOCOM with this. Sure they want to try it out and see and it'll work really well but gamers will always use the control pad.

BUT NOW, people that are not hardcore gamers and have always been intimidated by control pads but find traditional games interesting can now join in the fun too.

WIN WIN WIN for everybody. Now, go support natal raft jumping and ricochet rave dance up cause ofcourse, MOVE is subpar and just a "gimmick" :/

AKS5811d ago

See you online, then.

snp5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Actually if Move provides nothing more than a chance for those of us coming from PC backgrounds to use something more intuitive (ie. mouse/keyboard like) on fps's, i'll be happy. Not as bad as i once was, but still always feels cumbersome to me trying to wrench control of a fps with a standard controller. A standard controller feels right with platformers... just wrong with fps's; without having played it, Move 'seems' ideal.

But i guess if you're a wizz with a standard controller, that doesn't apply.

Pennywise5811d ago

There has been comments by Zipper that they are or were having trouble balancing the game with Move & the Ds3. Apparently the Move users have been destroying the DS3 users.

BeaArthur5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Well if that is the case hopefully they will get it fixed because I won't be picking the game up if the DS3 is inferior.

@AKS...how about you not put words in my mouth. I said I wouldn't buy it if the controller is inferior because I don't want to play a game where the controls don't work right. I play with controllers and if the controls don't function correctly, why would I buy the game? If they have focused the majority of the games development on Move, and I'm a controller payer, why would I buy an inferior product? Learn to read and stop trying so assume you know anything about me.

AKS5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

@ BeaArthur

Above you bragged about trashing all the Move players when you thought that you had a big advantage. Now that you realize that you are probably wrong, you say you just won't buy the game because you are afraid of being dominated. Very telling, indeed.

The only way to "fix" the disparity would be to gimp the Move's sensitivity or overboost autoaim for the DS3 because by design the Move is going to be substantially more accurate for aiming.

ryuzu5811d ago

1) I'm guessing Zipper may either disallow controller/Move games or make them a non-default option

2) Assuming they don't help controller users with auto-aim, Move users will be more accurate.

r.

Christopher5811d ago

Highly unlikely they'll disallow them as the Sony initiative is to encourage Move use that would thereby lead to them encouraging others to pick up the hardware to use similarly.

AKS5811d ago

Yeah, we will see if that happens. I guess you haven't played RE4 on Wii and don't understand how it massively improves your accuracy over using an analog stick to aim. Let's see if you still feel so confident after you start getting your head taken off.

PlayStation Move Controller Used to Perform Surgery on a Pig That Was 5,780 Miles Away

A group of surgeons made headlines after they managed to perform an endoscopic procedure on a pig located in Hong Kong by using PlayStation controllers. It involved the use of a PS5 DualSense controller as well as a PlayStation Move controller.

jznrpg575d ago

There is at least a few good jokes that could come from that title

Cacabunga574d ago

Yet another powerful device Sony gave up supporting. KZ3 move was one of the best motion controller implementation ever

just_looken574d ago

Right the ps move was awesome i have the gun thing from killzone still.

Relientk77575d ago

That's really cool. It's crazy something like that is possible with gaming controllers 1000's of miles away.

Lexreborn2574d ago

Guess that submarine should’ve used move controllers instead of logitech

Air Conflicts: Secret Wars - PlayStation Move's Best Kept Secret

Air Conflicts: Secret Wars debuted in 2011, and later updated for modern consoles. However, it's the PlayStation 3 edition that stands out.

Why the PlayStation Move Failed

Sony's PlayStation Move may not have been able to contend with Nintendo's Wii, but it paved the way for PlayStation VR's success story.

SullysCigar1703d ago

I use them most days and have for years 🤷🏻‍♂️

They're definitely way past a needed update, but I've got a tonne of fun out of them, so they haven't failed me.

bouzebbal1703d ago

The best motion control platform it's so intuitive.. Died due to lack of support from Sony.. It had some amazing games

thorstein1703d ago

They are used constantly for PSVR games. So, no they haven't failed. Neither has PSVR (or VR in general.)

Bigman4k1703d ago (Edited 1703d ago )

The article was talking about why it ps move failed before psvr came along

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1704d ago

It failed because it sucked plain and simple.

LOGICWINS1704d ago

I feel that's a bit harsh. To this day, playing Killzone 3's campaign with PS Move/Sharpshooter gun combo is the most fun/immersive experience I've ever had with an FPS.

I think Move was simply not as profitable as Sony wanted it to be, but it didn't "suck".

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1704d ago

It most definitely sucked. You people can act like it was something special all you want but it was horrible. The entire motion control fad was a waste of resources and time. Ever single motion controller besides the Wii failed and is no longer being used today in gaming. It's ok to admit it...

Minute Man 7211703d ago

@SPEAK

The Move was better that the Wii mote. If the Wii was anywhere accurate as the Move was you could say the Wii was better. Sure it sold boatloads but was it really played consistently??

yeahokwhatever1703d ago

I played it in 3D with the move gun on a 100 inch projector and it BLEW MY MIND. I was exhausted, but i finished the campaign standing there.

SullysCigar1703d ago

"Ever single motion controller besides the Wii failed and is no longer being used today in gaming"

Just no. Games release most weeks (for years now) that support Move controllers. Some ONLY use Move controllers.

Look, I get you're not a fan, but if you're going to rant, at least inform yourself in advance.

LordoftheCritics1704d ago

I would say both Move and Kinect weren't supported properly.

Sony and MS abandoned what could have been amazing.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1704d ago

Kinect sucked too. I would say Kinect may have been cool had it worked as intended but it was ahead of it's time. Both Kinect and Move are gimmicks nothing more. I honestly don't see why Sony still implements "motion controls" recent controllers. Who really uses that crap? And to play what?

Profchaos1703d ago

I so t think Sony abandoned the move it's technically repurposed and still supported on the ps5 just for VR

RedDevils1703d ago

Kinect should be kept as media interactive features.

LordoftheCritics1704d ago (Edited 1704d ago )

@SPEAKxTHExTRUTH
Again if it was supported right.

Where even a fast click of my fingers could get an immediate in game response.

It feels trash because we have been shown or lived with bad versions of gesture based tech. Think Minority Report fast. That could be something.

''You people can act like it was something special all you want but it was horrible.''

No one is acting like it was special, I said it could be amazing.

''I think Move was simply not as profitable as Sony wanted it to be''

Like I said, it wasnt supported. Give us a AAA game with precision gestures well implemented into the game and then we can discuss profits.

1703d ago
SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1703d ago

I don't deal in "what if". It wasn't supported right and even if it was it was still a gimmick.

thorstein1703d ago

"Like I said, it wasnt supported. Give us a AAA game with precision gestures well implemented into the game"

You just described every AAA PSVR game. And even the indies have incredible integration. No Man's Sky VR is insanely good.

Silly gameAr1704d ago

And, you can act like it was horrible, but I had a blast with my Move. I had the whole collection of House of the Dead, Dead Space Extraction, and RE Darkside Cronicles, The Fight, and Socom 4, and I would play the hell out of those games I even beat a playthrough of the Resistance 3 campaign with the Move. Getting drunk and playing with friends was a freaking blast.

You can pretend that you had a move and played it all you want SPeak the Truth, but it was accurate, and usually on point. I hate when people act like they've played something just to trash it, when they really just have a vendetta, and think the Move is easy prey for your hate.

Minute Man 7211703d ago

Wait you can play Dead Space with the Move?? I need it

Orchard1703d ago

“You can pretend that you had a move”

I love this crazy idea that if someone has something bad to say about hardware/software - they must be lying about owning it and clearly do not own it!

Because all hardware and software has a 100% approval rating from all purchasers…

P_Bomb1703d ago (Edited 1703d ago )

Shoot I forgot about Dead Space Extraction and Umbrella Chronicles. Had those too. Still do (digital).

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1703d ago

I have a vendetta against Move? Lmao that's the most ridiculous comment I've read today. I didn't buy it because like I said motion controls are gimmicks. I had a Wii and it was decent enough but a gimmick although successful. I had a Kinect and it too was trash. Don't act as if you know what I have and haven't owned. Move was nothing more than a Wiimote ripoff

yeahokwhatever1703d ago

SO MANY really great experiences for the Move. The Fight was excellent!

Silly gameAr1703d ago (Edited 1703d ago )

@Minute Man

There was a game called Dead Space Extraction that you could play the Move with.

@Orchard. Please don't reply to me, because every time I say something to you, I magically end up restricted. So, just ignore me like I ignore you, so there will be no hurt feelings, please.

"Ever single motion controller besides the Wii failed and is no longer being used today in gaming. It's ok to admit it..."

That is demostrably false.... Most VR games have motion controls and the PSVR uses the Move controllers.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1703d ago (Edited 1703d ago )

VR games have a controller most of the time not some magic wand. And VR is not the same as PS move or Kinect. I'm not a fan of VR either. A controller and a couch is all I need for my gaming needs.

Vanfernal1703d ago

@SPEAKxTHExTRUTH

"And VR is not the same as PS move or Kinect."

PSVR LITERALLY uses the Move controllers. Now it's just obvious you have no idea what you're talking about. You're saying Move failed and nobody uses it anymore when it's an integral part of PSVR and is still being used in 2021.

ScootaKuH1703d ago

It didn't suck. It worked but the games just weren't there, that's why it failed.

Father__Merrin1703d ago

The move was excellent it was 1 to 1 precise time crisis was a joy to play aswell as sports champions it didn't hit mainstream as it was an addon unlike Nintendo wiimote

Silly Mammo1703d ago

I wish that someone would have made a proper boxing game. I still have a blast with the Sports Champions boxing, but to have a boxing game that was more in-depth would have been awesome.

Dario_DC1703d ago

Try Creed for PSVR, it's brilliant

OMGitzThatGuy1704d ago

Because it was a uninspired ripoff of the Wii controller without the Nintendo library to back it and didn't try to put any real effort into development such as getting their top developers to make games for it and instead gave tech demos disguised as games to their least talented developers so the best can focus on single player only games.

Ryushaa1704d ago

Except the Move was an idea roughly implemented in the PS2. Yes, I'm serious.
Just search on youtube: PlayStation 2 - Motion Controller (2004)

Nonetheless, just like the whole Wii, it was more of a gimmick than a proper input evolution in games.

jukins1704d ago

Exactly. Its funny time and time again sony is the first innovate. Often at its own peril. Like your example the move started on ps2 taken advantage of by nintendo. Sony buys gakai for game streaming only for other companies to overtake them.

Profchaos1703d ago

Are you talking about the gametrak on os2 which used strings to track your hand position I used to have this and a gold game it was awesome but the game itself sucked if it had integration with tiger woods or something it would be way better the tracking was excellent even back then as it wasn't using guesswork.
However the game was very forgiving and no way to turn it harder and no licensed players or courses hurt it.

99% of the Wii's games were "shovelware", in fact, I think thats what started that phrase..

EvertonFC1704d ago

Socom, killzone, resistance and tiger wood 14 were great with the move but agree lacked more games.

yeahokwhatever1703d ago

There were plenty of games and I'm glad that not every game became a Move game.
