One of the big 3 just need to buy SEGA, it does seem like SEGA are trying to get a lot of new Ip's and if enough prove to be sucessful they just might try the consoles again.

My point is that more than 3 consoles in a gen can only hurt gamers.
Imagine to buy exclusives for the 3 brands that are in the business plus Sega and eventually Apple.
That's no good, the business doesn't need ALL this competition.
All the sales would be too much spreaded, and the development fundings would be reduced.
Competition is a good thing, saturation is not.

Highly dout it. If they were gonna make a new console, then they would not make sonic 4, vanquish, or yakusa4 on other consoles.

As much as I love the Genesis and Dreamcast, I'm against another major competitor in the gaming industry. We already have the PS3, Xbox360, Wii, and PC keeping us gamers busy. If they did release another console I'd definitely buy it, but the smartest thing Sega could do right now is focus on the software they're putting out. Some of their franchises have been going downhill.

I think some people are forgetting that Sega merge with Sammy and haves now all the power to go and make a new console!Just like M$ did with the xbox 360 (release before the PS3 ) it seems they are thinking in release the new console before the new PS4 and next Xbox,so this will gather a first share of the nextgeneration market at the beginning and most likely the support of the big dev teams and software houses,and thats a great move!

wow,that would be very interesting,but to have another console on the market would be abit carried away for gamers to have to eventually buy 4 consoles plus the handhelds haha,cause you know real gamers will eventually get them all thru out the consoles life.

I love Sega and felt the Dreamcast was so much better than the numbers would tell you, but this would be a TERRIBLE idea. They just had massive layoffs and made it sound like they would focus more on downloadable games... how would releasing a new console in an already packed market be a good idea?

Sega has done plenty of stupid things, but I don't believe they could be stupid enough to release another "real" console. Maybe one of those stupid plug-and-play "consoles" that they sell at Wal-mart with games like Pac-man and all that jazz, but nothing like the 360/PS3/Wii.

The big problem with this possibility is that, pretty much every major Sega property, including Sonic, is already available on every platform out there, so suddenly making it exclusive for a new Sega platform can prove to be very difficult.

I would rather Sega make the kind of groundbreaking games they made in the past....

I hope Sega doesn't try to do this. Competing the console race can be quite expensive I'm sure and the "big three" have definitely built up a loyal following.

I think Sega is prob pretty cool where they stand as of right now. They are a games developer for 3 different consoles. They are happy making money. This is a totally false rumor.

it's a crowded field already and Sega has been out off the console business for nearly a decade and btw they will need huge and i mean AAA titles to pull it off and so far this generation they've only given us 0 so i sincerely doubt it .

and screw the other big 3. I think that they could afford to re-enter the console market that way, but without the cost of actual consoles, or development as on live has done all that. All On Live needs is a trusted name which Sega has.

I was a huge SEGA fan and have all of their older systems. However, I think the market is fine with three different consoles that now all want to be able to do the whole motion control thing better than anyone else.

If SEGA can bring something new or a fresh and better perspective on current gaming technology than by all means I'm for competition. However, I don't envision SEGA being able to pull that off. I would love to be proved wrong, although I would be hurting even more as I have all three current systems.

The Wii for the family/motion games.
The PS3 for Blu-ray use. (Only own one game)
The 360 for video game/and on-line play.
The SEGA system? All three features but better and fresh along with an extensive on-line network? Not gonna happen overnight.

So, how would they do it ?

I will definatly not buy it unless it has 10x better and more games than the others

Maybe they have learned some lessons since then and there is enough of the console pie to go around they don't have to go big on sales right away just get recognized is all.But their 1st party games really need to improve alot drastically and hopefully SammySega has deep pockets for times when they are slow .The Dreamcast failed becuase they ran out of money to stay in the market even though it was a astonishing overnite success.It would be nice to seem them get back in it but they have a tall mountain to climb ... I hope this isn't a way to try and sell themselves to a console maker in the long run but they have to do what they have to do to survive.Tis sad to see the once mighty Sega down for so long ... I wish them luck

The genesis/mega drive and the dreamcast were sega's best home consoles. The genesis/mega drive was well designed but I had one problem with it: the button pads inside the controllers were of poor quality and only lasted 3 months to a year before the button pads would wear down to the point of some of the functions no longer working on the controller, and that is if you are being more careful with pressing buttons on the controller and I have only experienced this with the genesis and one cheap pc controller that I bought for my pc, Though sega has fixed that problem on the dreamcast which was well designed also for the most part. I have since learned my lesson and have only bought logitech(that have been in the controller market for years, and has a good track record for producing good quality products)controllers when I am in the market for a third party controller. I also have a mad catz dual force wired controller for the ps2 for at least few years and have put it through good use to were the 4 button cosmetic symbols on the controller have faded off and it still works as good as the day that I bought it(I only payed under $10 for it), it also has a stronger rumble than the official sony ps2 controllers.

The last arcade they bought out in 2007 was the Lindbergh, which most people haven't heard of.

If would be nice if this was true segas dreamcast was the best thing there was at one time. I really do think MS butt raped them on the dreamcast deal. In case some of you didn't know MS had a part in the dreamcast. What really happened way back then will never know.

With those specs it would cost upwards of $800 to make, at the least. Not likely.

Sega dont come out and make a fool of yourself , again, its over in the hardware market with people like apple and Google testing out the idea you will get crushed.

After the Dreamcast I can't see Sega ever coming back.

If sega did this they would just be ahead in the console race for a little while depending on when they release it. The dreamcast came out and was technologically better than the n64 and ps1 but soon ps2 took the cake. I think they need to wait until this generation of consoles is over before they release their console if they even have one in the making.

and, bam, 7 million dreamcast 2's sold on day one... mark my words. (That game could suck all forms of ass, and Sega could easily muscle their way back in with it)

if apple supplied sega the hardware and tech .Sega could have full attention on marketing and software thegames. But APPLE would need apple do the networking for the online. This could be amazing system if sega and apple team up. Cause sega will need a partner with the money who can help them stay a float. APPLE the company with the money who can do this.
