@andrewpfister: BTW, the official slogan for this year's E3, as determined by our panel of experts at the bar last night: "Eh, it's not for you."

Now if we could have a kinect game where we can use chainsaws.... awesome.

Can someone explain to me what this event was? Was it just an unveiling of the name? Because there is a "Project Natal" conference Tuesday according to the schedule: http://www.e3expo.com/

Notice how it's right after Sony's conference. Purposely done?

Edit: Wait a minute, wait a minute, THAT was it? That's what is showing Tuesday?? No way! Did I miss something here? Where there ANY hardcore games? Are you guys sure this was the actual conference for Kinect??

@Marius

Wow, I'm totally shocked! Where's the crap from Bethesda?? Criterion? I'm so disappointed :O

LordMarius5817d ago (Edited 5817d ago )

Thats the event that just happened right now, it will just be shown on Tuesday,

and yes it was purposely done...i think

Speaking of Twitter:
http://twitter.com/TheKevin...

Edit: Yes Alpha-Male this is what you will see on Tuesday, no hardcore games(maybe tmrw at the press conference)

ozhuerta5817d ago

I wonder about that real elephant o.O
Will it be there on tuesday?

logikil5817d ago

From other sites, the Tuesday event is supposed to be the same event except opened to a wider audience of 3000 or something along those lines. So far from the twitter feeds, Cliffy seemed at least amused, as did Felicia Day. Stephen Totilo though it was okay, but lots of me-to type games. The me-to games would have to be expected though, as a means to get people eased into the tech, but it really would have been nice to hear about something else besides Star Wars to be excited about. And no one has really talked yet about how the games actually looked which is intriguing to me.

jack_burt0n5817d ago

yeah during the sony conference is them airing the jungle party but u dont seem to believe me.

-Alpha5817d ago (Edited 5817d ago )

That's because you never explained or gave me reasons. Sorry if it seemed like I was just being stubborn, but I did not understand what you were saying, and now I'm totally confused and a little dumbfounded. I was expecting to hear so much more.

@logikil

So there's another event Tuesday that's Live?? Or is it just a pre-recording??

van-essa5817d ago

It's the official announcement of Kinect, nothing more. Microsoft's E3 press conference is tomorrow, Monday 14th at 6pm GMT.

oldjadedgamer5817d ago

@Alpha

This may be off topic, but I'm drunk and may not have read the article very well.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for your opinions over the past couple months about the new developments coming from both microsoft and sony. This is my 1st post at N4G, but I've been a follower for a long time. You seem to be someone willing to see both good/bad points of both machines.

I sincerely wish that all of the articles about the new motion control would be denied. Until both products are shown fully (at E3 or otherwise) there are no certain facts about either.

IMO I hope the natal (or whatever the new name is) shows games relevant to the non-casual gamer. If not, I can't see myself buying it, no matter what the price is. But the same is with the move.

Until anything "real" is shown about these "new consoles" are shown, I will remain skeptical about hardcore motion control.

P.S. I love some wii games, so I am trying to keep an open mind about both systems

Christopher5817d ago (Edited 5817d ago )

@Alpha: From http://www.xbox.com/en-US/c...

"If all this seems hard to picture, you can experience the event yourself in a 30-minute, commercial-free special broadcast on MTV on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 3:30 pm ET, and on Nick at Nite, mtvU, MTV Hits, and Logo at 9 pm ET."

I think it's just a re-airing of the event.

===
Edit: Yeah, just the two live events. So we've got tomorrow and that's it for Microsoft. They list all of the E3 events from here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/c...

===
Edit 2: As far as the event, read what people have been typing. It wasn't for me, but Microsoft still has the opportunity to mention third-party titles tomorrow at their 360 conference. This event seemed pretty much just a way for advertising the rebranding and release of Kinect to the public in a big way.

Wildarmsjecht5817d ago

Lol..Gaf is awesome. From what Ive been following from a couple of live blogs, not necessarily too exciting although the star wars game was pretty cool. can't wait to see vids.

crapgamer5817d ago (Edited 5817d ago )

He usually has a solid perspective on what's what and I think the fact he praised it, even though they showed casual games was a good sign. I don't see why people are hating on Cliffy B? Dudes like a cross between a rockstar and CEO. I dig his games and his input. I mean what do people want? Everyone is saying this thing was cool, nobody getting paid to do so.

*Edit* I think Microsoft wouldn't have had a choice in the matter. Every single person said positive things about it. I think that says something nice about the product and what it's supposed to do.

On a side note, I see the POS3 Fangirls are out in force trying to hurt the MS machine! Wont happen though, the show looked tight and I'm even more excited then I was yesterday! Good stuff, twitter and all the people tweeting about the show have pretty much quelled any fears I had about how awesome Kinect was going to be.

PS360PCROCKS5817d ago

Um, you really think they would invite Cliffy B and let him walk out and say "that sucked, how stupid"

logikil5817d ago

Why not? He isn't an MS employee, and they invited other folks that weren't blown away by it. CheapyD didn't seem all that interested and wasn't afraid to blog about it. Epic games gave MS pretty much its second biggest game this gen, you think they are just going to toss Cliffy and his crew out the door if he happens to say he doesn't dig on Natal/Kinect?

PS360PCROCKS5817d ago

Ok dude. The people hating on it don't make games, they're mostly reporters and bloggers. If your boss invited you to his house for dinner and it sucked and you were asked if it was good would you reply "Terrible, just terrible." He might not be employed by them personally but you know who publishes that game, signs the checks, make the advertising, provides the platform. Yeah, Microsoft.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio18d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing18d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit18d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing18d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay20d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn221d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound,perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn220d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown20d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay20d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay20d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac20d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger21d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300020d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde20d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde20d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_19d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
