Blizzard: 'Battle.net is the Future'

GamerZines: During a recent press event for Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, Bob Colayco talked openly about the controversy surrounding the lack of LAN support and why he believes adding more functionality to Battle.net is a worthwhile trade off for fans.

"LAN is not something that we are looking at because we think Battle.net is the future," Explained Blizzard's PR guru.

Absolutely not. Battle.net is just a cheapo attempt at taking over Steam. Steam is still far superior in every way. The only games Battle.net get are those by Blizzard.

I remember a quote from a Blizz rep saying that they're aiming for battle.net to become the "social network for gaming". Again, sorry, but Steam kicks your ass pretty hard at that.

Really, all Battle.net ends up equating to in the end is more money for Activision/Blizzard. It's just greed. Kotick needs to die, and die soon. Someone hire an assassin, quick.

Gawdl3y5861d ago

Which really in the end only makes them get more money.

Conloles5861d ago

Yeah no maybe for ActigimmeyourmoneyBlizzard, Ill stick with steam thanks.

Even if it only sells Blizard games, they'll have like... 3 games available 10 years from now.

Also, LAN support is already in the game, I guarantee it. They definitely would want a way to try test builds without connecting to Battle.net. They purposely disable it.

PC gaming is growing at a rapid rate. The more networks = more competition. All of us win in this situation.

I can forsee PC gaming seeing huge growth in the near future.

Steam already is at 25million (jan2010) adding in the rest of the DD network would put it at 40million atleast.

If DD keeps growing the way it is, if battle.net + gfwl take it up seriously we can expect a serious growth in this sector in the next couple of years. we might be touching numbers nearing 100million in the next 3-4years time. Which would be around the time next gen consoles start a base from 0.

Imo the way PC DD and the insane BC the PC platform delivers its a great time to be a PC gamer.

I welcome Blizzard to enter the DD market.

"However fans will be pleased that Battle.net will go through some improvements before Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty finally launches, with plenty of new functionality to be added in the future."

Lets hope they're talking about public chat rooms atLEAST.

Worst decision ever XD

et6175861d ago

I don't comprehend is it me or does you're statement not make sense? Plus, Battle.net already have public chatrooms o.o

Dnied5861d ago (Edited 5861d ago )

I thought it made sense lol there are no public chat rooms in battlenet 2.0

Really caused an uproar in the blizzard forums and I agree with them, the only way to communicate is to add each individual to your friends list vs chatrooms from the old battlenet.. Kind of takes away some of the community aspects I enjoyed in SC1 and WC3

..them saying they still have some features / functionality before launch I was hoping they would add chat rooms again to bring them back

HarryM5861d ago

Oh boy, just wait until you find out what a let down that's going to be..

Double Toasted5861d ago

Because you have a perfect crystal ball, time machine.....???? Which is it????

distorted_reality5861d ago

I think the new battle.net will be great - I just don't think lan play had to be axed to accomodate it. I know it's to block the hamachi players, but I don't like games that have single player components that are dependant on a server somewhere not shitting itself.

HarryM5861d ago

Battle.net has no chance when it comes to Steam.

distorted_reality5861d ago

Agreed that it can't compete with Steam, that's a given, and I sort of doubt that even the Blizz people think it could compete anytime soon in any meaningful way, or ever for that matter.

But I think as far as the community stuff goes within the Blizzard catalogue of games, it could do very well, and even though I don't like the always online aspect, i'm much more prepared to accept this form of DRM which actually gives something back to the players (ala Steam) as opposed to Ubi's drm.

Battle.net won't compete with Steam on a commercial level, but I think it will do well as a community tool.

Blizzard Wants Faster Diablo Releases and More Expansions

Blizzard reveals plans to speed up Diablo releases with more frequent expansions and updates as the franchise moves toward a live-service future.

QuantumMechanic117d ago

All I want is a physical disc release of remastered D2 that doesn't require online check-ins.

VonAlbrecht117d ago

Ah, more and fast - the antithesis of careful and good

Christopher117d ago (Edited 117d ago )

I've lost complete interest. Too much FOMO with seasons as it is, now it's expansions? No thanks.

Michiel1989117d ago

what fomo? everything gets reset each season and you start new characters unless you're playing on the regular servers and then you're already maxxed anway and just need to participate in the new season stuff.

Azurite117d ago

Battle pass exclusives.

Michiel1989116d ago

i played only during launch and i found the ones in that battlepass to be absolute dogwater, the only ones that looked somewhat cool were the paid ones in the store and i wont bother with either. The game itself was just so hollow, there were no cool builds cause every synergy was just "x or y skills does more dmg or has this extra effect" almost no experimentation needed, couldnt give a rats ass about armor if the core of the game is boring af.
