Pachter predicts PSP 2 E3 reveal

Mcuk writes:

Analyst also believes Nintendo’s 3DS could steal the show, rules out further hardware price cuts

It was on, then it was off again – now industry analyst Michael Pachter has come out and stated that he believes Sony WILL reveal a proper successor to the PSP at next week’s trade show.

He reckons the new touch-screen handheld will join a subscription-based PSN service, the Move controller and some new 3D PS3 titles at the platform holder’s E3 press conference a week today.

Furthermore, aside from the recent price cut to the DSi, Pachter doesn’t believe that any other hardware price cuts will be announced – countering claims made to MCV by a leading source last month.

I want 2 analog nubs and 4 shoulder buttons.
Gaming on that would be nice.. could even be used as a spare PS3 controller.

Conloles5835d ago

Wow what else does he predict? Motion controls?

mal_tez925835d ago

A dualshock controller with a screen.

Having all the buttons will allow for cross-platform games to have the same feel, and just have graphics be the only difference.

sinncross, I agree with you 100% about being able to use it as a controller, that would be awesome.

@ Hyrius

Me too.

@ Sinncross

Can understand 2 analog nubs, but 4 shoulder buttons? How'd that be possible?

Sony comes up with some decent designs for their consoles/ handhelds.

I am sure they could fine a way perhaps.

Inside_out5835d ago

Must be true because I own a psp 3000...Every Time I buy a Sony product they release a smaller version for half the price...Buying any Sony product is a risky deal these days...Sony will probably reduce the price of the slim...wouldn't surprise me...

graemed20055835d ago

Its not risky buying a sony product, its a good investment beacause they deliever quality. I cant say the same about xbox

"Every Time I buy a Sony product they release a smaller version for half the price...Buying any Sony product is a risky deal these days"

This is a silly comment. Why call Sony out for this? EVERY consumer tech company does the same... Whether it is Sony, Apple (especially Apple), Toshiba, Samsung, Microsoft, etc... Retail price is determined by cost of development and marketing (amongst other things)... So, early adopters pay more. Look at cell phones -- every week a new and improved cell phone comes out with more features at a lower price. It is the nature of the beast. But, it is unfair to say that Sony is the only company that does this. They lost millions upon millions of dollars on the PS3, even though many accused them of producing a product that was too expensive for the market.

bakaPX5835d ago

Actually, you just choose a bad time to buy their products. Companies always do that. It should be expected. But Sony isn't like Apple. Every year, you see Apple with 1-3 new products that are remade. BUT, the difference between Sony and Apple is that Sony is more trustworthy. Its not made cheaply like Apple. Look at Sony's MP3 players. If they drop on the floor, it won't break. But look at Apple's MP3 players. If you drop it on the floor, it'll most likely break.

Starting to wonder with KZ3, LBP2, Infamos 2, MS3 (Leaked) and whatever else we get in the next few days, what the hell have Sony got left, PSN +, Move confirmed, so just maybe......

Edit.

In addition, Pachter warns that onlookers shouldn’t hold their breath for a confirmation of Natal’s pricing structure.

“We note that Microsoft is expected to provide the permanent name for the Natal device, and display the full range of games that will be available for the device,” he adds. “We do not expect pricing to be resolved at E3, and think that Microsoft continues to weigh the lifetime value of a new Natal customer against the profits that can be made by the initial hardware sale.”

BS, as GAME are taking pre-orders from after Natals press confrance, a price and releas date WILL be confirmed, I'm in no doubt on that.

Amazing company, but they can't keep a lid on things for $hit.

That said all the pre-E3 game announcements were quite unexpected, so you never know. Something is in the works for their portable offerings though, there are a lot sales going on for PSPa at the moment - almost as if retailers have wind of something.

NYC_Gamer5835d ago

its too early for a new psp...

silvacrest5835d ago

how old is the PSP? 5 years old or something like that?

maybe if the GO was far more popular sony could release a PSP2 a year or 2 later but its been a big failure, do you really think sony would just leave the handheld like that for another year?

also, nintendo's 3Ds would steal all of the handheld buzz at E3 if sony didn't show a new portable

NYC_Gamer5835d ago (Edited 5835d ago )

will sony risk bringing out another expensive handheld this early..

@Below..
PSPG0 main problem is that it cost almost the same price of the 120gb slim..and it came out like last year just think about how much the PSP2 could cost with all its updated tech...alot of handheld gamers arent going to spend that kind of money

silvacrest5835d ago

i think they have to for a few reasons

1. announcing no handheld for E3 means 3D's steal the portable buzz
2. my PSPGO comment still stands
3. releasing any new product is expensive and risky and sony have done this before so this is nothing new

i dont no what you mean by "this early" the PSP is 5-6 years old and has only seen variations of the same handheld, the GO also falls into this category

Michael-Jackson5835d ago

I still think PSP still has life, just announce more appealing games - there's already a nice batch from Square-Enix (I hope they don't suck) including KH-BBS.

But considering Piracy and it's age, maybe it's time for a PSP2.

X-Alchemist5835d ago

I hope they make it more comfortable to hold.

"Be creative 99% of the time" – Glen Schofield on how creativity can help fix AAA industry woes

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman42d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
