Maybe I’m just lucky, but I’ve never had 1 problem with either of my two Xbox 360s, nor have any of my friends who own the system. I wonder if this guy is putting them on a heating pad or something?

Who knows, PS3 might have a heating problem too, but most people who own them don’t have it on very often. There is nothing to play on it!

They should just post these articles to the PS3 side of the site. Whenever one is posted it's mostly PS3 users commenting and they seem to get the most from these articles. Is there really any Xbox user left that doesn't know about the hardware problems?

Notice none of the ps 3 only owners are willing to comment on the widespread problems with the wifi and getting interference with the controller. I cronically have both of these problems (as do many others) yet my 360 that sits right next to the ps3 has no wifi or controller issues.

Sorry, i find that really hard to believe. Specially when my first 360 lasted 11 months. Not saying it's not possible but i am saying that is highly improbable. This guy has had a 360 that can't last more than a month, every month and a half, for a little over a year and a half?

man that's some bad luck, he's probably doing something wrong if it happens to him that much. i think someone would be unlucky to have their 360 break down on them 1 or 2 times, but 11 times is ridiculous

That is pretty amazing. I wonder if he has the world record. I have had one 360 and it has never given me any problems. I mean, I make sure to have it in an area with plenty of airflow, and I always leave the ceiling fan on in that room. I don't know what this guy does with his, but I know I play mine quite a bit... I even use mine as a DVD player sometimes which I know is idiotic.

I have bought three Xbox 360's. I bought one on launch day which worked fine until this past April. Out of nowhere with no indications that things were heading south, the DVD drive crapped out. I bought another one last August for my wife. It got the three red rings of death, also this past April. I bought my third 360 after the first one crapped out, and I had to pick that up in Dubai since I am in the Navy and was underway when it happened.

All of that being said, I have two PS3's and a Wii. My Wii broke and has been fixed and returned. My initial PS3 has so many "silly" little bugs, like I can no longer load my Resistance game from my profile... just from my profile, that it drives me up the wall.

If my current 360 broke, I would STILL go buy another one. Why? Because I have all of these great games, and I want to play them. If my PS3 broke, I really wouldn't notice. Any multiplatform games I buy for the 360 for the Achievments. That leaves me with Resistance and Motorstorm on the PS3. The Wii gets some time about once a week and when I have guests. But my 360 IS my gaming machine. So on one hand, I have a console of questionable quality(360), on the other, I have one that is currently a dust collector(PS3).

None of these consoles deserve your undying loyalty. They all have their issues. I think we should all play our games a little more, get out enjoy the summer, and stop trying to bash one console or another just so you can feel better about your purchase. My two cents.

Unfortunately, you can't cry foul and say that Kotaku are being fanboys or are doing something wrong with the 360's because:

IGN.com have complained that a number of their systems have conked out.
Computerandvideogames.com have had their failed xboxes hit the double figures as well.

Go to their sites if you don't believe me. You can't call this propaganda now.

Hearing the whole "My Xbox broke" is getting boring but if that was any other piece of hardware it'd be the same thing. Remember, all this fuss forced MS's hand to increase the warranty in the first place. If no-one complained, nothing would have been done.

We can only hope they sort out the next batch of 360's they produce or be forever tarnished with a shoddy workmanship reputation.

Besides all that, MS gave out a free 3 year warranty on all their systems, and have acknowledged the issue with them. Why report this as new and interesting when it's clearly been played over too many times, and is lost any kind of flavor it had (if it had any at all!)

Its just hard to believe that all the people i know havn't had any problems and some claim to go through 9-11 of them. Its the way some of these people take care of them. lol

I know it's stupid for Microsoft to even have these problems under its name, for they've been proven to be a company of quality. I think it just breaks down to what they probably had to compromise in order to get a year's lead on the competition. I for one have only 1 Xbox 360 and have had it since )05/06.

So that's a year and 3 months that I've been a satisifed customer. But this is a gaming community and those gamers who aren't satisfied cannot be silenced. I say rise up and be counted! Let's get the problem fixed, so that we can all go back to our gaming lives. If a warranty won't do, they should be prepared to take better actions.

I can't believe that some people here are content with being on their third or more 360 just because it has the most games. It's insane. This is actual news. After all it is from Kotaku. The only so called news I hate is the "BLOG" sites, since it is anybodies opinion and plenty of @ssholes online have them and sometimes state theirs, as if it is fact.(Some, not far from Falmebait as we know).

While some might question a gamer on their 11th Xbox 360, everybody knows Xbox 360 consoles have had issues, even though some have yet to have problems after 2 years. I've seen Xbox fans state their problems as well as others, that have "jumped out". Since most of us know that,while some can continue to type xbox360 doom, that is fine. I tend to move on, since I have no issue.

Couple of things, we also know is:

1. MS have used different Heatsinks and such, on repaired 360's even though, I have not seen many pictures of one. some of this, I can't confirm.

2. MS is, and probably will come out with the new "falcon chips" to eradicate the issue all together.

3. MS has extended the warranty for RROD issues to 3 years, while taking 1+ billion lost.

While an Article like this comes out every 2 weeks, sometimes you just feel sorry for the "poor" gamer, but on another note: If a gamer continues to buy something that is faulty, then that's his problem. That's why I like this gen, "PLENTY OF ALTERNATIVES OUT THERE". Simple as that. Hey, the 360 have great games coming out, then if that's your justification for sticking with it, even on your 11's then, it is what it is. If your going for a WOLRD RROD RECORD, then your a plain fool. So I wonder why this guy continues to support MS? or at least not wait till the issue is solved? Anyhow..

In the midsts of all the Negatives news(which is OK) the xbox360 continues to lead in many things, for which, I have made a wise choice up till now. Really, there is nothing a fanboy or anyone can say besides this negative RROD comments, which will be ironed out soon enough.

YES this is Negative news but it's not news I get excited about..There was one similar like a month ago and we have learned a lot from MS in a month, about what their strategy is to fix this thing. This type of news after a while, has become flamebait, fanboys have wet dreams about.

We ourseleves are responsible for the products that we purchase. Take better care of your console. Simple things, like blowing out the dust in the fan blades and vents. Or cleaning up the caked in dust inside the grooves of the disc tray. I even have my system's rear pointing sideways so that its exhaust goes away from the wall and into the air, thereby preventing heat build up around the console. I clean the outter shell once a week with a nice clean damp cloth.

And this isn't just for my 360. No, I treat every other electronic in my household the same. And not just electronics, but my vehicle. In general it is looked well upon that a responsible person takes his or her own initiative in taking care of their possesions. I have an extended warranty on most of my stuff (and games too, under Best Buy) and I'm always prepared for that inevitable day when something happens that I have no control over. I mean come on people, isn't it required to have insurance on your car?! Then why not take the same measures on other stuff.

99% of people claim it takes months for their 360 to break its hard to believe people are going though 11 of them in 17 months unless its in a enviroment lethal to its health.

I heard somebody went through 25 360's sound ridiculous? its not because i said so lol(PUN).( the 360 has to be kept between something like 40-95 degrees reguardless of it being a possible defective unit.

Keep your home dust and smoke free because that creates a blanket and still warms it up, Smoke from cigs and Pot leaves a coating on everything its around and i'v been told by MS and other gamers that was the problem with many cases.

Wait i just heard somebody has went through 35 of them he lives in Florida and never dusts his house and he smokes Cigs and hot boxes his home with pot smoke(PUN).

I had to tell my local EB games to take the 360 out of the plastic case after one of their 360 units died they never have a problem again the old broken one had a 1/16 of an inch of dust on it in a plastic case lol.

I will not believe anybody when they tell my they went through more than 2 360's before i start thinking they're the kind of person that thinks they can treat electronics any any fashion and are causing it to break.

People need to get mature if they're going to comment in "gamer community" forums, there's no hate in here. We should all work together to get answers to each others questions. With comments like that GuessWhoIAM's I'd say that anyone else with similar thoughts, just ctrl copy and paste so you don't even bother wasting time typing it. That way, they all seem the same. I didn't post this news to start a flame war (even though I knew some others would). You might think that I just posted this to bash on the 360 but in reality I didn't. I think the 360 has great software bar none at this time. But I my self went thru two systems before giving up on it. I still have the games which I love and hope to some day play again. But posting news like this will only put some fire under MS butt to fix the issue. If you don't they will do nothing! Falcon might just be what's needed but we don't know that yet. Letting them know there are those who demand quality will make them strive for it. I don't want them to lose I want equal shares amongst them so they can keep pushing themselves to give us gamers more. MS got the software right now they need to work on the hardware. Posting news like this will make them give us the quality hardware we need for this gen and the next.

I could understand getting a couple of defective 360s but this seems to be a tad rediculous.

its hard to believe this. im still on my first and i got this last December. i had two friends that broke their 360's but their 360s were launch consoles.

Assuming:

1) The failure rate is about 33% (1/3 of all consoles are defective);
2) A refurbished/fixed/new console returned by MS to a consumer is just as likely to fail as the last one (ie: all consoles have a 33% failure rate and failures are mutually exclusive from eachother and not dependent at all on the total number of consoles sold);
3) An owner who has a console fail on him WILL get a replacement 360, no matter how many consoles he's already gone through (ie: even if he's had 9 failures, he'll still get a replacement box - you can't phase this guy);
4) 10,000,000 xbox 360 console OWNERS exist;

Then, statistically speaking, this is quite possible. Definitely more likely to happen that MS would like (obviously that isn't a surprise).

9 failed xboxes, each having a 33% (1/3) chance of dying, suggests the following:

(1/3)^9 = 5.081x10^(-5)

Or, in other words, you have a 1 in 19683 chance of having this happen to you (9 defective consoles in a row). Or, if 19683 people were to buy xbox 360 consoles, then statistically speaking, 1 of those people would have 9 failures in a row.

Taking the *assumption* that there are 10 million console OWNERS on the market, including the defective (returned/repaired) consoles, then this scenario is statistically likely to play out for:

10,000,000/19683 = 508 people

On the plus side, you have a 99.99492% chance of NOT getting 9 failing xboxes in a row! :D

I think the 360 issue is a problem. Most people are looking over the issue because when it is working there is nothing like it. Also there are more working units then non working units.
