Not NO, but HELL NO, Bobby!

Most gamers in today’s industry enjoy online gaming, spending hours, even days online killing, racing, or scoring touchdowns with friends. What is this kind of entertainment worth to you?

...but...

Bobby Kotick & Activision are a cancer in the videogameindustry.

Anyone who sincerely loves gaming should boycot their games, or at least only buy them 2nd hand.

See... this is why paying to play online like XBL is nonsense. Now pubs/Devs have been wondering why they do not charge when MS is charging to play their game online. Wouldn't it make sense for the Pubs/Devs to want in on the profits. Big deal the online service has acheivements and voice chat. The ability to play a multiplayer online should be free with an option for added fluff like the rumored PSN+. What would happen if all the consoles next gen had a $50+yr fee and Pubs/Devs started charging a fee as well to play their games?

This is why I'm against paying a fee unneccessarily for a sevice like XBL because of the fear of this practice catching on. Greed is a powerful motivator and can some feral.

Maybe they should just make this one of MS' exclusive online features. Pay for XBL and pay [game company] for multiplayer access as well since their fans don't mind paying extra to play online when it's free elsewhere.

His intention also seems to be to dwindle the number of franchises down, and milk them for all their worth. Terrible from our point of view for numerous reasons, particularly:

Tacked on content and endless sequels mean a lot of repetition. More DLC campaigns that plays exactly like the original game.

Less franchises means less experimentation. If every game costs considerably more to produce than now, and has a long line of micro transactions riding on it in the future they'll be less incentive to go outside the norm. Just like movies, we'll just see an endless spool of derivative blockbusters which cater to the masses

Unfortunately since Activision-Blizzard is the elephant in the room, we're bound to see the other big distributors follow suit unless everyone decidedly votes with their dollars against it.

@Yi-Long

The only way we can buy their games second hand is if people buy their games from retailers first.

Just wait until those sheep buy them to buy them second hand, or better yet, do as I do and not buy them at all.

BannedForNineYears5820d ago

How about one person buys the PC version legitimately and creates a crack for it. And then uploads the setup and crack to thepiratebay....
Too extreme?

skyblue142135820d ago

I have not bought a new game from activision since tony hawks pro skater came out on the nintendo 64, and I am now glad that I have for all of these years, this is just fuel for the fire and encourages me not to buy another activsion game in the possible future.

Yi-Long5820d ago

... but there are always gamers who just want to play Call of Duty and Guitar Hero etc.

Personally, I feel there are enough alternatives (buy Battlefield or another great shooter instead of CoD, buy Rock Band instead of Guitar Hero, etc etc...), but IF there is a particular Activision game that you really REALLY want to have, try to buy a used copy, or obviously just go for a cracked PC version.

kotick is the worst thing to gaming since ET for atari 2600

inbetweener5820d ago

If only we could dump him in that landfill with all those unsold ET cartridges...

GWAVE5820d ago

I think it's hilarious how Activision is starting a division for indie developers.

Lulz. They'll probably hire them, steal their ideas, and then sue the developers.

sikbeta5820d ago

Exactly What I was thinking, The "Red Octane Case" is the ultimate Method used by Kotick+Activsion to Screw Devs...

Chewy1025820d ago

Why would they hire anyone? They would make them sign a contract that would take all of the rights to the games from the indie devs. Then Acti could do anything they wanted and none could do anything about it.

TrailerParkSupervisr5820d ago

they will get to a point where you pay for air drops and extra ammo clips. Out in the middle of a MP fight and low on ammo? Just hit select then "buy more ammo" option. Out of their kindness, they will automatically charge your credit card for it.

Raz5820d ago

I will never buy a COD game again. I will never buy a 'Hero' game. I will never buy an Activision game if I can help it. I will never take Starcraft II online if they intend to charge me for multiplayer.

I say bring back the focus on epic single-player campaigns and screw these greedy mofos with their dreams of sticking a siphon tube into our bank accounts.

Brklynty15820d ago

He only acts like that because he goes through this at work everyday...

CobraKai5820d ago

Too bad that there aren't enough gamers who know that Activision is screwing them in the ass with no lube.

Celeras5820d ago

Bobby Kotick commenting on Blizzard and Battle.net 2.0 like he has active involvement makes my soul bleed.

i actually want this to happen, it'll be a good judge of how important online play actually is to people. ideally gamers would pass it up in droves and games can start getting back to basics i.e. good stories, good gameplay.

personally i've long been a proponent of selling the single player components of games separately at a reduced price and having the online portion be a separate download/purchase.

STICKzophrenic5820d ago

I don't mind paying for Xbox Live because it isn't that expensive for me, but I won't pay to play individual games online every month.

I definitely like your idea because there are many games sitting on my shelf where I've only played the single player campaign and never even touched multiplayer.

If something like this happens, what happens to co-op? Will that be another feature for which we pay? Screw that.

That said, I can imagine there are a lot of developers that are close with their community and would NOT follow suit. Granted, there are a lot that would, but the ones that don't would be held in a much higher regard.

WERE YOU DROPPED ON YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU WERE BORN OR WAT?

play17boy5820d ago

This guy is probably the biggest Douche in the history of gaming ahhhhhhhh.......I just hope gamers band together and boycott this because if they don't we can expect a lot more screw jobs in the future.

Dramscus5820d ago

Whats wrong with this guy. He's probably going to implement this scheme where upon people will en mass stop buying activisions games. Then the company will be driven steadily into the ground through stupid decisions and bad pr.
Your series aren't that irreplaceable mr kotick. There are lots of shooting games coming out, and being released by companies that aren't run by super greedy bastards to boot.
Not thot their totally not greedy their just not super greedy and respect the fact that the people buying their games effectively pay the companies bills. Pissing those people off is not in the best interest of any company.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio14d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
