First Look – Half-Life 2 on the Mac

Earlier today Valve released Half-Life 2 onto the Mac. That’s right, it only took 6 years, 5 months and 21 days before Mac users actually got to play one of the best first person shooters ever made and yes, I am one of those Mac users. Now like most people I have already played my fair share of Gordon’s first trek through City 17 but that was over 5 years ago on an outdated PC, even by 2005’s standards. Today I’m rocking a pretty hefty Quad-Core MacPro with all the fixings and thanks to Valve, now a computer that can run games without burning out my video card.

i would hope that a $1,500+ machine can run HL2...its good to see that no problems arose while this guy tested the game...a classic that should not be missed out on

chak_5847d ago

yup, every shooter fan on earth should play that gem

I've played just about every major FPS to date since DOOM, HL2 still tops the list for me, amazing experience. Mac owners, jump on this if you haven't already!

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil384d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

One of my biggest art heroes. His work and vision were truly one of a kind, and he’s been a huge inspiration to my own work. Such a heartbreaking loss.

Remember seeing Dishonored for the first time when it released, fell in love with the art style straight away, so striking! And because of it, still holds up and will for years to come, RIP Viktor

Yep I remember seeing some of the earliest concept art for Dishonored and hearing that the art director of Half-Life 2 was working on it and being excited.

And you are absolutely right, each of those games (HL2 and Dishonored) has a distinct art style that stands the test of time.

So sad to hear this. I absolutely love the Dishonored series and love the world and art style. It looks great and unique. I'm still hoping for a Dishonored 3

RIP Viktor love your work

Ethereal466d ago

Damn... Dishonored has such amazing art. RIP.
