#1 so what? i didn't care about wearing the glasses when i went to watch avatar a few months back. + people are already waving their arms around when playing the wii and will soon be joining them on ps3 and 360 with move and natal lol i don't think gamers will mind too much about wearing the glasses.

so i guess the only points i really agree with are the cost and widespread adoption which kind of go hand in hand. I personally wont be buying a 3D tv anytime soon because of the cost. Moving to hdtv was an easy decision though since you knew that there was a wide variety of films available in 3D and 2 out of the 3 consoles would support HD for as long as they're out

I was unsure about 3D, until I tried it out at a Sky 3D preview booth this week, I have to say I was very impressed.

The footage was a mixture of stuff, but was clearly HD and look crisp as you like, and the 3d just added a new dimension

So I can see how this would actually really create a new level of immersion within a game

When you criticise 3D, you have take the make sure the subject is directly approached. Batman's: AA 3D should not be inclusive as well as the Motorstorm and Wipeout HD. After all, these games were NOT built from the 3D ground up (hence the vast difference between "Avatar" and the accursed "Clash of the Titans".) If anything, I've been receiving positive responses from Killzone 3 a very graphical and technical game that received almost no issues with 3D according to some news sources.

His first point agreed, glasses are stupid and its said that glasses free screens are also possible. So the mass of people will probably wait for those.

2nd point, total nonsense. Only existing games that are converted to 3D suffer from a resolution downgrade. Those games that are coded at start for 3D don't take a hit in resolution. On this point the writer fails hard.

3rd point, so you got a headache from some semi 3D game? Not the full 3D experience and viewed on an actual 3DTV... ah right...

4rd yes every new piece of electronics is expensive. Wait out for a year or so, while price drops the content grows.

5th logical with a new technique. But gamers are known to pick up stuff fast. With GT5 and KZ3 both confirmed to be 3D and probably new games to be announced for 2011 like Uncharted 3, inFamous 2, Motorstorm 3 etc not even mentioned new IP's, I'm sure Son will push 3D for gamers to the max.

9th lol yeah, if companies never innovated to HD, you would still be playing your bigass SDTV. Thats called progression over time. Not saying every innovation is good, but in general if something disappoints it'll die soon enough. If 3D is done real great, the experience of stuff pretty much coming out of the TV instead of all staying behind a flat glass screen sounds cool to me. If done well that is.

Yes Sony are pushing 3D, but so are loads of electronic makers are: LG, Nvidia, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Nintendo(if rumours of 3DS are true) to name a few.

Others that are envolved in 3D are Hollywood, Porn Idustry, Games industry, Sky, Blu-ray, Discovery Channel.

And BTW Sony broadcasting the 'World Cup' in 3D, which is a major sporting event. Uptake of large 3DTV's is expected to soar cos of it.

The recent KZ3 previews have really changed my opinion and got me excited about 3D at home, they're nothing but positive over it's use in the game.

Yes it can be expensive and yes wearing the glasses maybe a pain, but if the experience out weighs all that then it's all worth it in my opinion. Plus things get cheaper quickly and shorly every large HDTV will support 3D. It will basically be forced upon the mass market.

Personally, I'm not interested in 3D, atleast what stage of tech it is at the moment. It's basically for sologaming only, and it downgrades games presentation a lot, and I'm not fond to the glasses either. But maybe this is the future, we'll see, and maybe my mind will change.

I thought 3D TV would be dumb but I checked one out last week and was not expecting it be that good. It's so much sharper than in the cinema. It changed my mind on the whole thing. I'd love a 3D TV when prices are more reasonable.

Reasons I don't care for 3D.

1) Headaches: I get headaches when looking at 3D images. You're lucky if you don't get them.

2) Loss of visual quality: I'm not talking about downscaled resolutions but 3D images don't look as good as normal, solid images. This may have something to do with the human eye only being able to focus on one plane at a time.

3) Loss of research and development for holographic technology: This may sound foolish but with the market for 3D growing you can bet electronic developers are going to be concentration on making better 3D displays while focusing less on holographics.

Remember Microsofts 'Bill Gates' said: "640K ought to be enough for anybody," which he supposedly said in 1981. Refering to the amount of memory need for Windows OS.

I want 3d I like to have the option and I'm all for wearing glasses who gives a shit how you look it's what you are seeing that's important sigh I know a 360 owner said it dude f off this article isn't for 360 owner your never getting killzone 3d just keep playing your gears 1.5 cause the graphics to your games never changes.

Major problems for me:

Cost of 3D equipment - TVs are very expensive and there aren't going to be many 3D games or films for me to watch for a while, so it's not worth the investment.

Wearing glasses - I would have to wear contact lenses rather than glasses otherwise I wouldn't be able to see; some people don't have contacts and couldn't watch at all. But the main problem is of other people watching. If you are playing a game if there are people around they will want to see what you are doing! But unless you have 5 pairs of glasses and none of your friends or family members wear glasses instead of contacts, they can't watch you play. This is even worse for movie-watching.

Not true 3D - 3D is not true 3D. It may be better than having coloured lenses in silly glasses, but it's not much better. The main thing it is missing is focus. The TV is always the same distance away, so every image on it is at the same focal distance. That means that depth of field effects are likely to disorient as you try and fail to focus on objects that are blurred. Notice that it is still possible to gauge distance and tell a 3D image from a flat one even if you have one eye closed. 3DTV will send mixed messages because in some ways it looks 3D, and in others it looks 2D, and many people will end up with a headache.

Gimmicky technology - Unlike colour, or LCD, or HD, 3DTV is NOT just an improvement over previous technologies. Even if you can't tell the difference between SD and HD, there are no disadvantages to having HD. The same can't be said for 3D because of the problems I listed. So it's simply not an iterative improvement over previous technologies, which makes it a gimmicky addon. Much like adding smell-o-vision or a water pistol which squirts you to make those underwater scenes more "realistic".

1) dorky glasses ? it all depends on the model of glasses you use ..the nvidia galsses are black , simple and cool .

2) who cares about resolution ? you're in 3d resolution doesn't matter since you're feeling depth . Also games coded for 3d won't have a resolution change .

3) headaches ? No ..i've already watched several movies in 3d and i'm feeling fine

6) what ? People will learn what to do and what to not do after 2,3 sessions

7) the playstation 3 exist that's good enough for me

3-D isn't the future, it's the past. It will never catch on in the way HDTV did. My grandparents and parents can enjoy HDTV, they wouldn't want to wear glasses to watch Television or see movies though. So right away you take pretty much anyone over the age of 40, then there are people under 18 who cant afford it, parents who (might) have it, probably wont let their young kids use it, it can strain the eyes, then there are the people who already wear glasses. It's a small percentage who actually will want to use this technology. I avoid the movies in the 3-D, it's not my thing to wear stupid glasses to enjoy movies, television or games. It's not like Sony hasn't failed with products in the past, the Eye Toy, PS2 Hard drive etc.. They are taking advantage of having instituted DVD players and Blue Ray players in our houses.

The thing that sucks for me personally is the fact that I am blind in my left eye so I don't see 3D. Whenever I put on the glasses all I see is one big blur (and I don't mean the game).

I am not that excited about 3D on consoles. I had this on my PC like 8 years ago and while cool it gave me bad headaches. I played Operation Flashpoint and Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast in 3D, but besides the headaches the glasses were very uncomfortable. It was cool to see blaster shots go right by me though, hehe.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
