Sony Backpedals...Consumers Prefer Discs Over Digital

After last weeks chilling prediction that the next PSP would still be downloads only apparently not all of Sony feels the same way about digital distribution. In an interview with SCEE boss Andrew House, House explains "At the moment, disc-based content is still very much what the consumer is used to and wants," House said. "However, there has been a change in attitude and technology that is making digital delivery far more feasible and far more attractive. It is our job to ensure that consumers have the choice between the two where possible."

Condoms over Vasectomy

Its only easier

...standard as a primary option isn't backpeddling it's called good market sense.

Darkmurder, I think what you're doing is trolling, but since you bring that up. I would like to welcome Insomniac to the 360 community. Welcome to the Jungle Insomniac!

haha thanks, i really needed to laugh. Work is BORING!

you forgot the stanza:

Bungie joined the PS3 too!

Quick opinion poll to all: Who's the higher profile studio between the two, Bungie or Insomniac?

PSP go was TOO expensive...sell it for $99 dollars and everybody would have one...$250....it failed...Plain and simple...Ipod is all about DLC and is a PHENOMENON...just saying...Apple taking over the handheld market, like a tsunami...

Biggest5845d ago

PSP, a full gaming platform is too expensive for cez. But the Natal, an add-on, is worth whatever price Microsoft deems correct. Gotta respect that blind love.

anh_duong5845d ago (Edited 5845d ago )

i think sony are strictly referring to games consoles not portables.. disks games are on the way out regarding portables.. wouldn't be suprised if psp2 is fully dlc wrt to games

Nihilism5845d ago

In aus the PSP go is $379....the PS3 is $429....maybe that's why they are not selling, I don't think it has anything to do with digital vs. physical, it's all about the price of the device.

MNicholas5845d ago

Online music services aren't doing so well and never have.

Lots of hype.

No results.

Same with Netflix type services. They'll grow a bit then plateau once they hit a brick wall called reality.

Seems all these people are drinking the same cool-aid.

Well duh. I like having a physical copy of most of the stuff I buy. Least when it comes to games. Movies I can go both ways though.

Quagmire5845d ago

Like alot of women I do in bed...Giggidy OH!

raWfodog5845d ago

Physical copy will always be my preference. Plus, its still good business sense since not everyone has access to a network from which they can download.

ExgamerLegends25845d ago

People want the option of Digital download or disc on home consoles. On portable consoles download only makes more sense. It makes it more portable as opposed to carrying 20 games with you. The only problem is having enough HDD space to last a generation.

sikbeta5845d ago

Physical Media Will Always Win, but digital media can work with handhelds, so you're right...

1233605845d ago

its download speeds being the main problem,i down loaded the modnation demo in less than 5 minutes, would i have downloaded the game in full .no still went out and bought the disc, two main reasons resell value and the choice to lone it out to anyone i want to.

forcefullpower5845d ago (Edited 5845d ago )

Since when have sony been touting DD. They have always said it would run both side by side. This can be seen that they sell both PSP and PSP go. It's microsoft that has been touting DD is the way forward.

Well thats what all the articles have always been here on N4G

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle28d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga36d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199236d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga35d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman35d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box36d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion35d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7236d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7536d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit36d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14936d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7736d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
