IGN: Blur Review

If you love a more hardcore racing experience, and the idea of truly chaotic combat sounds appealing, than Blur might be for you. If you're looking for a fun, pick-up-and-play combat racer, the you need to go back to Mario Kart or, better yet, pick up the excellent Split/Second.

Graphics - 7.5

So, Split/Second is better? Hot DAMN!

its gonna boil in here.

- Ghost of Sparta -5883d ago

I can't even pretend to be surprised by this. Split/Second is no doubt the better game.

viperfx5883d ago

he starts the review with "Generally I'm one of the best gamers I know. I don't say that to brag"

Jack-Pyro5882d ago

How about a different choice of words next time, eh. =/

maskedwarrior5883d ago (Edited 5883d ago )

I enjoyed the demo in Split/Second more than Blur.

saint_john_paul_ii5883d ago (Edited 5883d ago )

Blur= Mario Kart with Real Cars

Slit/Second= Motorstorm, but with cars on a track, not off road, and the course is destructible

ModNation= Racers, equals Mario Kart and LBP put together.

pansenbaer5883d ago

Is the Blur commercial making fun of ModNationRacers? Or just kart racers in general...? I couldn't tell.

saint_john_paul_ii5882d ago

its making fun of Mario Kart.

Bigpappy5882d ago

I played both demos and would say Blur is better. It handles better and is much more fun to play.

N4GAddict5883d ago

I thought it would have scored higher. The demo was good.

Blaze9295883d ago (Edited 5883d ago )

yeah I'm shocked as hell too. but hey, just one guy's opinion. On top of that this review doesn't seem that well done. Only a page and spends most of it complaining on how he keeps loosing? Not even a video review done. I bet the dude probably didn't even play it much. Wonder what other reviews will look like.

The multiplayer demo was amazing fun. I'm still buying it later today

Jack-Pyro5882d ago

Now that's what I call an acronym.

AllroundGamer5883d ago

i found that in Blur the AI opponents aren't cheating so much like in Split Second, so to me less frustration = better game, and that is Blur, also the graphics and effects are better in Blur IMHO.

Blaze9295883d ago

exactly. I got Split/Second and the AI is so damn cheap it's frustrating and the rubber band system is ridiculous.

Jdoki5883d ago

Bizarre Creations seemed to go off the boil with PGR4. I was cautiously looking forward to Blur, hoping it was a return to form. Haven't tried a demo yet, so will reserve judgement until I can try the game, but this review isn't a good start.

Split/Second demo was fun, but lacked the visceral thrill I associate with the Burnout games.

Damn, I need a new racing game! Where's Criterion when I need them! (Working on SSX if rumours are true!)

joffa815883d ago

Criterion are working on the next NFS game so SSX will have to wait a while longer LOL !!!!

Jdoki5882d ago

Yeah, looking forward to possibly the first really decent NFS game for a while... hoping to get a release date at E3!

I really hope the rumours are true about SSX.

Montrealien5882d ago

I can`t get enough of blur, I can;t wait to get into it tonight with more people online. I really enjoy this game. Glad to see it is getting good reviews.

I just started playing Spec op. I've had it for years on steam and forgot about it. Such a good game.

EvertonFC861d ago (Edited 861d ago )

Fantastic game,.so underated

Cacabunga861d ago

Yes great game spec ops! Since the time we’ve been asking sony to make one:/

Auto Modelista.. a PS2 capcom racer!! A blast to play and great graphics!
Maximo!
Rival Schools!

LordoftheCritics861d ago

Spec Ops: The Line was super dark.

Incredible story.

SheenuTheLegend860d ago

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Yi-Long861d ago

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons861d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor861d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens52860d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey602860d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.

Skuletor861d ago

I have quite a few of these. Timed licenses suck.

Terry_B860d ago (Edited 860d ago )

wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.

Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.

EVERY Blur Game Ever

Whilst it’s rather disappointing that there are no new Blur games on the way, we can still look back at the series and reminisce.

there was more than one? man i must have really checked out after the first one.... or my lack of interest is showing. that game was..... not great.

Skuletor2244d ago

"there was more than one?" This is exactly what I just thought too. I just remember the one on PS360 and PC. The game was fun but I didn't play it much tbh

IRetrouk2244d ago

Wanted to love this game so much, but just couldn't, it was the cars handling more than anything else, why they couldn't have kept or remade the pgr handling model is anyone's guess.

JonTheGod2244d ago

2 mobile variants and a cancelled sequel do not a franchise make.

Gunstar752243d ago

Blur was a great game. Such a shame Bizaree Creations went bust.

Azraeia2243d ago

Tbf didn't know there was more than one. But looking at the other games in this list no wonder the series died after the first major title. Racing is an awkward series to compete in imo. You can't really go down the simulation route cause games like Forza have got that covered and if you want arcade smash up style racing then just play the old NFS or Burnout.

Blurs servers were the main issue but would love to see it return.

AZRoboto3277d ago

I'll point out that these games are all from the X360/PS3 era - they've already had HD releases when they first came out. Split/Second and Blur - with the crazy vehicle physics capable today, why would we not want sequels to them?

The other games, all a matter of opinion of course, but... thank you for your ads between every single game. /s

TheDCD3277d ago

Problem with sequels is that they aren't very likely. Activision dropped Blur like a bad habit, and Disney isn't doing games anymore. So I'll happily take the originals.

Relientk773277d ago

Remember Me
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Miss_Weeboo3277d ago

Alan Wake
Lost Odyssey
Demon Souls

TheDCD3276d ago

As much as I'd kill for a Demon's Souls remake, isn't likely. We'll probably get Bloodborne 2 instead.

PhoenixUp3276d ago

Dafuq kinda title is that? These games were already released on HD consoles though...
