Sony Secures victory before E3, for now

E4G: With all the latest buzz going around Sony's platform, people are starting to realize that Sony might have already won E3 with the announcements that have been released. There has been Killzone 3, LittleBigPlanet 2 and a possible Uncharted 3 (Uncharted 3 is the only game that has been hidden for now).

dardinkay5832d ago

For now yes...we will have to see till E3, can't wait!

SeriousSam5831d ago

Yea be patient people. Can somebody please explain to me the "scoring" system that E3 has...how is a "winner" calculated. What do you need to do to acquire points?...(note sarcasm) We as gamers are winners. All three systems are sure to have great shows.

darkmurder5831d ago

Yeah MS generally don't announce their products until E3 so Sony would be wise to keep some things close to their chest for more hype.

Sexius Maximus5831d ago

It's tough to be patient. Maybe it's just me, but E3 is like Christmas. I look forward to it all year, and when it's over, I start counting down the days all over again. (I know, I'm a sad, sad gamer)

KillaManiac5831d ago

@darkmurder

MS doesn't have a choice because they don't have remotely the first party devs as Sony does.

Sony can announce majors like LBP2 and Killzone 3, but still have surprises like Infamous 2, Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, load of bleh Move titles ect.

MS will more likely announce one major game...and everything else will be games we already know (Gears 3, Halo, Fable), multiplatform exclusive content, and load of bleh Natal titles.

Sony definitely since past 2 years has EASILY has the "games list" tied down.

Trey_4_life5831d ago

Read my previous comments, i already called this, sony has secured victory at E3 because they actually have first party games unlike microsoft who just have kiddy shooter halo

The thing is SOny will win again. they won in 2008 and 2009 BUT USA media wont thinks so, again. Why? Because they get a boner when MS gets Yoko ONo, Beatles, Spilberg etc on stage, you know guys that have nothing to do with games! Anyways i guess they prefer presentation, even if all smoke and mirrors compared to ammount of content. I wish there was a rule that big 3 could only show exclusive games. We know MS will show Fallout NV, COD 8 or 9 (which ever it is) and other multiplatform game and everyone will act stupid and so impressed because you know MS showed them, ignore the fact that you can play them on PS3.
Its same story every year. On papper SOny wins, but USA media sells it as if MS won. Just watch. Bookmark this comment and rub it in my face if i am wrong.

Microsoft's E3 2009 conference was like a combo of Nintendo's 2008 Wii Music presentation, Sony's Eyetoy presentation from early on in the decade, and Seaman dressed as a boy. Some more Halo and some far off titles. Add in Yoko and Kojima letting everyone know that they won't miss out of the next metal gear (of the non-MGS4 variety...sorry fanboys), and the media praises it to high heaven.

The 360 is bullet proof from the US media.

ManGastaS5831d ago

that MW2 owns every PS3 exclusives!

Minokichi5831d ago

Most people that you talk to, they's intelligent. Like I said, Most people

dragonelite5831d ago

Yeah sony won last year because it had more games to show in that department but i like microsoft show way more no stupid boosting of numbers. Sony first half always looks like a freaking financial report you have to drag through.

rockleex5831d ago (Edited 5831d ago )

For Microsoft. It has barely been able to withstand LBP2 and Killzone 3 so far.

But we all know that bulletproof vest is pointless against the nukes that Sony's gonna drop at E3.

Imperator5831d ago

Sony will "win" E3 this year just like in 2008 and 2009. Flash shows and celebrities may be enough for some people, but I actually care about GAMES which is what Sony always provide.

deadreckoning6665831d ago (Edited 5831d ago )

PS3s the only console I own, so I have preference towards Sony, but I wouldn't count out Microsoft and ESPECIALLY not Nintendo. The 3DS will be big.

@Imperator- Sony, M$, and Nintendo will ALL be showing these GAMES u speak of. What are u getting at?

- Ghost of Sparta -5831d ago (Edited 5831d ago )

Killzone 3 and LBP2 is all they needed, really. Sony won E3 before it started and they're not even finished with the reveals yet. ;)

LordMarius5831d ago

E3 doesn't start until Sony says it does.

sikbeta5831d ago

Being honest, even if Sony is "securing victory before E3" that I know is Great and all, but now I don't give a Damn, I just Want to see How Awesome the Conference will be, I want to see loads of Games, Sequels + New IPs and I just can't wait...

Sony E310 will be the Best...

Pfft, if he got his way, that zealot would have all pro-360, anti-PS3 articles.
Good riddance. I hope the mods go the extra step and block his IP, since the other day he proclaimed he was going to make a pro-PS3 troll account.

The real killer5831d ago

Wait, Years ago Sony promis they show couple of new RPG games for the PS3.
We will see RPG game from Sony :)

Dragun6195831d ago (Edited 5831d ago )

Yo even if Microsoft secures Final Fantasy XIII Versus, more time Exclusives or Exclusive announcements, it won't stop Sony at E3 when they reveal what ever they have up their sleeve and you know they have something big to show off at E3 when they announce two big sequels weeks before E3 even starts.

Hell their E3 line up so far is quite something
Socom IV
Little Big Planet 2
Killzone 3
Agent
Ape Escape PS3
Gran Turismo 5
Infamous 2
The Last Guardian
WKC 2

And thats just excluding the possibilities of what Sony might announce like Motorstorm 3, Starhawk, Resistance 3, Syphon Filter 5, or even that Zombie game that Sony mentioned about (Until Dawn?). Not to mention Move's starting line up, 3D featured titles, PSP Line up, and a new PS3 firmware, its no wonder they had to announce few titles early, its like they had too much to show. Anyways, Sony's officially starting to bring heat at E3. Your move Nintendo and Microsoft.

bviperz5831d ago

The media will take ANYTHING and make it a competition between the gaming corporations. They like to downplay the FACT that no matter who they say had the best show at E3, in the end, GAMERS WIN EVERY YEAR!

niceguywii605831d ago (Edited 5831d ago )

Same thing is said every year. PS3 fanboys hype up PS3 and it loses every year. It's no surprise a place filled with Pro PS3 fanboys and pro PS3 media post Pro PS3 garbage every day.

PS3 hasn't won sh*t, Sony and fanboys are trying to yell over the real excitement for the other companies with relentless hype.

"Say the guy with one bubble"

You prove his point when the revamped N4G makes it easier for PS3 fanboys to abuse the site blocking and reporting 360 fan comments on sight.

Has nobody told Sony that E3 is still 3 weeks away?

These announcments would have had more impact if they were given at the event proper.

You can't win a contest before it starts.

dardinkay5832d ago

You could always get a head start though :P

TOO PAWNED5832d ago

These are known Ips, KZ3 is 2011, i think we are going to see a lot of new material. Is it MOVE or big games for dualshock 3, thats to be seen. Iguess they need time for something else, which makes it more exciting.

Elwenil5831d ago

Just like with the release of a game, E3 has become such a huge event some hype building up to the actual happening makes it seem that much bigger. The trick is how much of your hand do you show before the actual event. Show too much and the event seems to fizzle, not show enough and all but the biggest announcements will get virtually overlooked. As for Sony "winning", we shall have to wait and see. I'm pretty confident with Sony's current marketing strategy that they know what they are doing and will put on a good show regardless. Of course they have made blunders in the past as have just about all major corporations so time will tell.

Ravage275831d ago

on a sidenote, i am SO PUMPED UP for inFamous 2! I really love the first one and it's exciting to see how SP expand on the immense potential of the IP

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8514d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele14d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk14d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay14d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10115d ago (Edited 15d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit14d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg14d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10114d ago (Edited 14d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14914d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle27d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit27d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog28d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog27d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad28d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_28d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage28d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
