Fantasy Lab is one of the newest next gen development studios bringing to life an engine with the power of Global Illumination and amazing displaced subdivision surfaces technologies for the PS3.
Recently PS3Land.com had a chance to talk with Michael Bunnell, the President of Fantasy Lab.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
very interesting technology. this technique can be emulated through other methods like the article describes, but it'll be a lot of hardwork for the devs with not nearly the same results.
"I can say that the PS3 is the very attractive to us, because it is the most powerful hardware that the target audience for our game is likely to own." yea the ps3 is the best hardware, and devs will use its power !!! cant wait for all this ingenious games !!!
...how they will use this Illumination tech... it should be pretty cool, but it isn't all that important to have light bouncing off of sand to me.
They do a good job of producing the realtime lighting in this game. If you own a 360 check it out the. Personaly Sphink I think that the tech. they have dev. here is ground breaking inven though this article may make it seem as if the only plave you can get this. (do not belive the hype.) Eb games is giving out the demo free.
Wow, just wow. The realism of the lighting is pretty damn impressive, and there's so many polygons due to displacement mapping that it doesn't look like a videogame anymore (no more polygon edges, whoo!)
I heard that Factor 5 is using subdivision surfaces (just like this company) to give the dragons in LAIR over 100,000 polygons each, on top of the normal mapping. Just for comparison, Gears of War characters use around 8~10 thousand polygons. Pretty impressive.
P.S. Finally, someone who says something about the RSX! (psh, Sony's frickin secretive tactics =P) "I love the Cell processor. The SPUs are ideal for running our global illumination code, which can also run on the RSX. Having both Cell and RSX gives us a lot of power and flexibility. " Awesome.
