I liked Moore. I hope that whatever his personal reasons are, that moving back to the bay area solves them. Relocating hundreds of miles from "home" for a job can be rough on a marriage and a family. I hope it all works out in the end for Peter.

I was here for Ken Kutaragi's retirement wich was actually for the best of Sony. Ken was kinda of losing it if you know what I mean. But I can't see how Peter Moore leaving Microsoft is good in anyway. This is actually horrific. There was no pre-mention. He just up and left. I wonder if he got canned. Mark my words. This sucks.. I am a fan of his... really came out of the blue but this is hardly him being pushed out. He is accepting a job with EA, more than likely paid more... if anything MS let him get away. Moore just ruled the Roost with tons of people praising him for his "real-ness" and sincerity from personal interviews and outright honesty surroinding e3 and the Microsoft product recall- he certainly hasn't been kicked out.

I think this is a sign of things to come. Obviously Sony is gaining momentum that M$ was trying to prevent. If they get this momentum they could wind up losing more money then last-gen, because of faulty hardware, and old-tech in the SKUS.

Sony changed direction when they let Ken Kutaragi go and while people were screaming, "The ship is sinking"... it obvious that it kind of worked for the better for Sony.. since now they are doing better. Wouldn't you agree? Well.. microsoft is changing directions.
Anyone screaming and implying that the xbox is in trouble now... have short term memory.. since the very samething happen to Sony no long ago and the PS3 is live and kicking...
This is a sign of great things to come... that change is coming... Microsoft needs to change face and gain the consumer's trust again... and what's the easiest way to do it? Ask Sony... give "Ken Kutaragi" the boot.. and make dramatic changes like, fix RROD with new SKU, Price drop and annouce a bunch of new games and xbox live features.

By the way.. I'm I the only one that finds fishy the fact that EA gets peter more and microsoft gets Mattrick? Sounds like a swapt to me. Is microsoft and EA planning something we don't know? It's not everyday this kind of things happen...

I'm not totally surprised, although it is pretty "out of nowhere". Now that I think about it, when I watched the Kotaku interviews from E3 he really seemed on edge and not his usual self. It makes sense now that he may have had some personal matters on his mind.

It's too bad, cause he really did a great job for Games for Windows and the 360.

I think he was forced to resign due to pressure from how the 360 is failing at 30% rate. IF you think about it this would anger shareholders. However A firing would look bad for the company so a forced resignation makes sense.

As for EA launching a concole the 3DO left a bad taste in my mouth i dont think it would be wise unless its clearly twice as powerful as ps3 and 360 but even then EA can only sell games on there concole which in turn cuts off there supply of money

if they launch with a game twice as good as crysis count me in

I seen a lot of articles in the last 2 weeks with Peter Moore on here, I think the most of any PR person following E3. Looking back at these articles, was there something there, or even a question, or an answer that hinted this?

He was grilled and asked plenty of questions about the competition and prices and all that, and he answered them like he should of for a PR guy. Some of these guys are rather "tools" in any business. Hey it's all public relations. A very tough spot at times to be put in, I can't imagine the stress.

Anyhow good luck to him at EA. Maybe we will stop seeing re-hashed games from them. Only time will tell. In other news how many guys have Sony fired or how m any change of managment has Sony had in the last year alone. See when someone steps down at Sony, its always for a good reason. MS and the Xbox 360 s in it for the long haul, if not well the Original Xbox would of been Final.

Guess he cant take the heat with all the 360 problems. That 3yr warranty is going to get really put a dent later. I know cause I work in TV service. The DLP that uses the lamp is killing the warranty companys cause the lamp goes out almost every year. labor + parts = doom .

I am gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. The reason he has shown such disstain for Sony is because he is very loyal to the companies that he has worked for, both Sega and Microsoft. Now that he for the lack of a better term "has to play nice" with all three companies to put out the best possible product for all consoles. I'm pretty sure that he would not let his past employment get in the way of what he wants to accomplish in his career.

It's not realy professional to project minor events such these two people's cases as a forecast to what may happen in the future, unless they are REALLY tied to the push and pull of the business. Moore was the guy who spoke to us when we asked, but his power what not in the decision making aspect of the company. And Microsoft will always work to make these decisions based on consumer demand, and not just company interests. Give the man credit, as he has successfully been at the top ranks of two great companies.

media hungry. If this will make anyone think differently, examine this prospect: Microsoft has been consistantly pumping out great hits on its console this year, and last. And there's only one game that truly delivers on the promise of "infinitely expanding gaming experiences" and that's Mass Effect, a game done on last gen disc technology. It's not the disc capacity, its how you use it. A 50Gb Blu-ray doesn't really promise infinte, because it has a wall too!

And to bootsielon, why do you project 20 years? Is it that you're just to innacurate to determine anything closer? Well, 20 years is a LONG time, so maybe the industry would have drastically changed by then, for BOTH Microsoft Sony AND Nintendo.

The future of OSs is BROWSERS? Look up Microsoft Surface on the net, it's really interesting stuff. The first units come in winter, and these things ALREADY change the future right NOW! Vista marks an INCREDIBLE leap in terms of technology, and its connectivity to the 360 just basically slaughters anything Sony can offer right now. Even Sony Vaios use Microsoft Windows!

My combination of a Zune/Vista PC/ Xbox 360 provides me with an unmatched multimedia setup. I get everything on my PC and Zune linked to my 360 and when i have friends over, we idle the time away ENJOYING OURSELVES!!! Live! gives me everything a paying customer DESERVES, along with unrivaled advances in game network technology. I even had a headset WAY before PS3 had bluetooth. And bluetooths 2.498 ghz range is only .098 better than standard 2.4ghz, which is SHAMEFULLY miniscule given the price of its implementation. And check out wikipedia on each of these console's GPUs the Xenos (360) and RSX (ps3)

Me being a PS3 fan, I saw Peter Moore as public enemy # 1. This guy really seemed passionate about games and about trying to bring as many games to the XBOX 360. I personally thought Peter Moore was busting Sony's balls.

Can a guy just change like this? What was all the trash talk about and the tattoos and all that? People compare this to Ken stepping down but Peter Moore I thought was doing good, unlike Ken.

Now Peter Moore works for EA games? Sony fans will obviously be watching him very carefully. EA is the most influencial 3rd party developer in the world. This whole thing is just a bit weird.

just last week we saw this guy representing the Xbox 360 at E3, and now he's quit his position at the company. Makes me wonder if the Xbox brand is going to be around much longer, especially after the warranty issue (since every console is defective) and so many executives within the company showing a lack of confidence.

I do believe out of the 5 games demo'd on stage 2 were EA games.... Thats some good love towards EA. In fact...did EA do demos for any other conference? I am trying to recall but I don't think so....

Peter Moore, former Xbox head, now at EA as the head of the Sport division, probably the single most important game division in EA.

Don Mattrick, former EA president, now at Microsoft as the head of the Xbox division.

Both can leverage tremendous influence and connections in EA... which can and will benefit Microsoft, one way or another.

He seemed like a down to earth kind of guy. I enjoyed his interviews also.

You will be missed as the face of XBOX Mr. Moore.

Jeez when I read that article earlier about Peter Moore thinking about switching to EA I never would of guess he would do it but he did. I just hope this new guy is qualified.

EDIT: People can say what they want about Peter Moore xbox had a good run. And he put the 360 on top of the new generation consoles whether it would of lasted is another question. But losing him is a blow to xbox.

What I really admire from this guy is that he is REALLY loyal and he was always giving 110% for MS. Things just weren't going his way, these past months.

He just lost the will I guess.. or maybe EA offered him a lot of money or maybe MS told him that they were planning to replace his position.. We'll never know.

Point is this guy is great, but there's no need to feel bad for him or for the game Industry, because he is staying in this environment, he just won't be on MS anymore.. I think this could benefit both EA and MS.

Given the losses that MS has been taking on their console division, this news should come as no surprise as someone has to take the fall for all the issues as of late.

Peter Moore didn't really do anything beyond what he should have (given what he's paid). Maybe he was doomed from the beginning? Sometimes you have to put a positive spin on a particular situation (RRoD). Well he tried.

Both Sony and MS should look at Nintendo and how they have been able to actually make money in the business for their shareholders while providing the consumer an enjoyable experience.

Since the days of the Genesis..Nintendo has navigated their way thru tough competition and been able to provide great content to the user without alienating their shareholders.

Not to start a flame war or anything but I really do feel as though Sony will win this generations console race. The Next Generation will probably be Nintendo's from a technical standpoint, they will be able to provide the HD experience in a cost effective manner to the consumer.

Things are looking good for both Sony and Nintendo as of today anywaz.

A lot of users are right on when they compare XBOX360 to Dreamcast. I owned a Dreamcast and really enjoyed NFL2K with the online experience. But the console suffered from user support in the end (not enough content).

That's the issue with the 360 with respect to Japan. To dominate you have to win both Japan and US. The 360 is failing in Japan as the XBOX did. That's too bad. Add to that poor hardware components, drives that eat disc, not enough compelling exclusives, and you have the situation that MS is in with major losses resulting in someone stepping down. Of course, he was paid enourmously to do so.

The company's future is intertwined with the Xbox brand, just as much if not more so than Windows.

There will be changes, but MS is not Sega, and $7 billion in losses over 7 years pails in comparison to the 12 billion MS rakes in every year. Just another tax write off.

This is the best thing for Moore, and MS. If the Zune deserves to live, than certainly the 360 does as well.

As for this I love the 360 and I don't want to be a negative nancy but this has put me on edge. It is true about this being different from Ken Kutaragi's retirement, Ken had become a bit of a liability, a bit of a wild gun, with so much bad PR surrounding the PS3 pre launch cutting him loose was the best thing to do, esp as considering his age it could be dressed up as a genuine retirement.

Moore leaving so suddenly is drastic, and I am fearful that he knows something that the rest of us don't. If it was for a personal reason like a terminal illness, or family strife, I think that for the sake of PR MS would have faded him into the background gradually (like Mr J Allard) before superceding him.

The fact that Moore has severed his ties so abruptly puts me on my guard and as much as I hate to say it, I have a horrible feeling that this isn't the worst news that the 360 is going to recieve this week.

As for being a doomed console and all that however, its just rubbish. Gates said from the start that he was willing to lose money for the first ten years in order to become the leading force in console gaming. Msoft can stand to loose much more money than Sony (and I mean MUCH more) before the game is up.

There needs to be competition, it is clear that the industry can sustain three consoles so I would say that none of the current big boys will be going anywhere for quite some time.
