MS should take a look at their core fanbase and realize that not many of them are fans of jrpg.

The really sad thing is, that people have bought this game. The Game and Storytelling is so bad, and with this high selling numbers, square will think, that it was a good choice to go the Casual-way.

Sure there are People that like this game, and thats ok, but its far to casual for an JRPG the Hardcore Gamers wants.

I bought FF13 for my PS3 instead of my 360 not because of any console bias, but simply because the PS3 version was the lead platform during development.

And I'm not going to hold anything against a Microsoft executive for speaking positively and optimistically of their product. That's their job.

They forgot to mention GTA, they tried to make that their own but ended up selling fairly equal on both consoles.

Microsoft was wrong to say that but they probably couldn't care less because it sold over a million copies on their "shooter box"

Edit: @ClownBelt - It is in a way. They usually don't sell amazingly well but it's where the JRPGs are at.

It still boggles the mind how the 360 version of FFXIII sold less despite having almost double the install base in the US as well as an exclusive bundle deal with some exclusive advertising. And 18th spot in Europe... Really, Heavy Rain outsold FFXIII? Wow!

The article quotes a Microsoft spokesperson claiming all of the above will sell (/have sold) better on the Xbox360, but the article only singles out FFXIII sales. How did the rest of Microsoft's prediction go? Namely RE5, which the MS quote addresses.

If by downfall you mean successful re-brand then I agree. Microsoft is the company working for the Americans honestly. I am not of a fan of the things Sony puts out, Microsoft has more money to spare then Sony, so I don't think MS or Xbox 360 are going anywhere anytime soon. It's not like MS announced 4-D graphics or made outrageous claims like Ken Kutaragi did, hope he enjoys his "window seat". Why don't people get that Microsoft and Nintendo are the only ones making money? Even for a sales success the PS3 is losing a billion a year and multiplatofrm games are 90% of the time selling better on the 360. When Natal and the slim 360 hit and with Halo Reach and Fable 3 and Gears 3 early next year, Microsoft is in the best position.

I brought it for PS3 an my friend did to, he hasn't preorder a game or really brought a new game for about 4 or 5 years.

One thing is, 360 sucks at selling anything that isn't a FPS, I mean look at all the big sellers and they are pretty much all FPS.

"next gen doesn't start until we say" - lol It's about to finish and they are still last.

"ps3 will catch up to xbox in 1 year" - lol it's been four so what's the hold up??

Sony is so full of sh*t. They were so high and mighty once but now they are the joke of this gen. Kind of like the gamecube last gen.

Ouch. That wasn't a good claim lol. But once AGAIN children it's not ALL ABOUT software. Ok so Microsoft is trying to expand it's genres and make the xbox more appealing. Mission accomplished perfectly. They now have everything from SF, FF, GTA, Tekken, RE and so on...This pays off in the short and the long term. The xbox is cheaper and has titles that the PS3 has and it's own exclusives. They don't want the PS3 to have any advantage over them. Everytime those games spur someone to choose your system you've just won. You've won in hardware, software, peripherals, xbox live and so on.

millions of dollars to bring it to xbox....milions to advertise it .....this is the result you get microsoft

Other than GTA 4..Final Fantasy 13 on the 360 was an amazing win..

It doesnt matter if they sold as much as the PS3..just look at Japan's exclusivity of the game and you understand what would have happened if FF would have been a PS3 exclusive.

But what nobody is admitting is Final Fantasy sold great numbers considering the biggest FPS thus far in 2010 Battlefield: Bad company 2 dropped a week before..

Look at the numbers have fallen after everything was said and done in America alone..

Final Fantasy 13 (PS3) - 980,000 (58%)
Final Fantasy 13 (360) - 710,000 (42%)

Then look at Battlefield: Bad Company 2's numbers

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (PS3) - 730,000 (34%)
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (360) - 1,410,000 (66%)

If I was Micorsoft I would have touted the game too. Did it turn out that way..nope.

But let's keep it real..who knew the backlash would turn into unreasonably review numbers and a smear campaign on the 360 version being the worst of the two.

When people on this site saw the NPD they said that square should never make another Final fantasy due to the sales that 360 ended up with..but if numbers that close mean that then the PS3 fanbase shldn't be able to play a WHOLE lot of Multi-plats in the future

Sony has won back the hears of its old users of the past.... the buyers are the PS3 are confident that sony is looking at the ps3 as a long term thing hence we will see alot more loyal customers.

I agree. I think the author of this article is in damage control, trying to mitigate the recent rumors that Versus may be coming to the 360 in light of how well FF13 sold on the 360. Obviously, it sold really well if Square-Enix is thinking of porting Versus to it as well. I don't think MS is eating their words at all then. They are probably grinning.

Microsoft need to focus on the development of exclusive games and give there dwindling fan base something to shout about, instead of buying in to games that are already on the PS3.

Wizards of the Coast did more for the Final Fantasy brand than SE has in the last 10 years.
