I expected the same thing as was with gta4, nothing has changed. I'm guessing either they don't want to mess to much with the engine, similar thing with split second, looks slightly burry being a lower rez on the 360./ and better quality on the PS3.

when rockstar we're having issues? something to do with their management or whatever, can't really remember for sure. if the game is slightly better on the 360, it would kinda make sense if i remember right. it takes more time and all to make games really shine on the ps3, everyone knows this.

i'm not surprised by this "news". as long as the ps3 version doesn't have framrate issues and such then it will be ok. i really don't think those that play it on their ps3's will be disappointed. i will wait for a "real" comparison before judging.

We either own a 360 or a PS3 not both so we don't have the option of choosing either version we are stuck with whatever version is available for our console. So what's the point of even comparing the two versions ? There is none.

While I agree that the argument is petty, I disagree that we shouldn't have a response and we should disregard any opinion on differences between the versions.

If a game is released on two competing consoles and one version runs at 720p and one runs at 644p, we should be annoyed that it needed to be downscaled.

Of course I don't know if there are any other differences that might give preference to the PS3 with respect to rendering but it still shows that the developers had to set different standards because of their inability to develop on the PS3.

That said I own a PS3, PSP, DS, and Dreamcast. I have owned and sold or given away a Wii, PS2, PS1, SNES, NES, Gameboy, Intellivision, and Coleco Vision. I have never owned an xbox or 360.

If you only have 1 console then this topic is pointless, however it does help those who have both. I cancelled my PS3 pre order and just picked up the 360 version because I want the best looking one. PS3 is still the superior console, it sucks it got screwed over like that.

First GTA IV, then Midnight Club LA, and now RDR? Wow, they need to step it up, especially if they plan on releasing an exclusive PS3 game; sub-HD is unacceptable. Excellent game so far, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in their failure to get their games in HD on PS3 by now. Seems like they don't care.

The 360 version of GTA IV (among lots of other multigames) had a SLIGHT graphical advantage.. But it's so slight that you have to compare both versions side by side to notice any difference at all. (some reviewers even stated that the PS3-version had the upper hand) In other words, it won't affect the experience in any way. These differences are exaggerated by 30 year old virgins counting pixels and trolling fanboys shouting their mouths of in forum threads.. I read/heard that Bioshock, AC2, GTAIV among other multigames supposedly looks horrible on PS3.. I finished all of them on PS3 and they all looked great!

If you are multi-Console Owner, just buy the version which you have friends to play with.

Posse with friends should not be missed.

I think that the reason most reviews aren't mentioning the differences is because they aren't really big enough to talk about. If you can only tell by playing the games side by side or going back and forth, then the differences must be minimal. Its obviously not a big deal overall, but good to know for those that have both consoles and actually care.

Alan Wake is a great looking game even with lower res textures. What Alan Wake lacks is originality. I have played this game once before. I believe it was called Alone in the dark. Transpose the gameplay from East to West Coast and the frame work is exactly the same. Here is the punchlist:Amnesia (check),possession(check), enemies that can only be killed byconventional weopons after exposure to fire/light(check), poor driving section(check) and faux TV episode set-up,"last time on Alone in the dark/A.Wake." If Alone in the dark had been a huge hit like Eden/Atari had hopes everyone would called foul along time ago, but very little mention has been made of this oversight.

I don't know.. I mean, The Xbox 360 can get the RROD/E74 at anytime & without warning, That really isn't the sort of console I want to buy & play through the game on, regardless of myself owning one.

I want to play this game without any worries of my system breaking down.. I'd say that buying the game for the PS3 is a more wise choice in my opinion

Why can't devs make equal copies?

Well; I knew the PS3 has a GPU thats roughly 3/4th the rendering power of the 360, and has Vertex/Pixel Shader where the Xbox has Unified (meaning 100% of the gpu can be used at all times)

This game isnt very CPU heavy and I think this is one of the rare times the Xbox actually has an edge in pure GPU brute force and when its CPU isnt limiting it. It could be a contributing factor, ontop of the engine perhaps not being designed for threading rendering to offload GPU work to the Cell.

I just don't understand how and why this type of thing keeps happening. We are all aware that the PS3 is a graphical powerhouse and I don't see why third party developers haven't stepped it up yet. It's like they always want to take the easy way out and lead design with the 360. I guess as a business decision that makes some sense because of the technology, but it doesn't gain them any respect within the industry or from gamers.

It started with Bayonetta on PS3. Then it was Splinter Cell Conviction, FF XIII and Alan Wake on 360. Now it's Red Dead Redemption on the PS3. And that's just this year alone! No one remembers where it began. We have fanboys on both camps accusing each other of hypocrisy. We have people saying sub-HD is crap this week, when it wasn't two weeks ago and vice-versa. And for the love of me, I can't remember when graphics became more important than gameplay.

A great looking game today won't look so great in 10 years time. A game that plays great today, will always be fun to play.

I really don't think the differences are that big a deal, but it's nice to see articles like this to remind the PS3 fanboys that the 360 still packs quite a punch.

It's a tough choice since 1 has a bit of extra content and one seems to perform better.

You would think everyone is playing for a billion dollars with how serious they take all this gaming/hobby stuff. I guess it is a game in and of itself.

The only people that this article would remotely matter to are those who own both consoles, in which case the consumer should just go with the choice that better suits their needs. The choices are between a bit more content and slightly better graphics. Either way, anyone who is not in this particular situation should just shut their traps because if you only own one console and plan on getting RDR then guess what-You're getting it for that one console. I keep reading about jaggies.. I have yet to see any and I have been looking... If the game is upscaled by the TV, I wonder if its the TV creating the jaggies.... On a 40" XBR 9 there are no jaggies.. Now graphically I am not blown away as I thought I was going to be..

This is quite disappointing. Differences this big (if what they say is true) should not be happening these days, especially with a top tier developer like rockstar. RDR is my most anticipated game this year and it really saddens me they couldn't get the PS3 version up to par.

Like a few are saying, I wouldn't be surprised if they exclusive content is to make up for a graphically inferior product.

The 360's more powerful GPU is helping for this game. The PS3's RSX GPU is most likely the culprit. Some games rely more on GPU than the CPU

For what it is worth, I am multi console owner as such it damn well is important to know which version is better.
I wanted to get it for PS3 but know seeing that the 360 version seems slightly better am having my doubts. However considering the fact that my xboxlive ran out on the 12th May and in order to play online i would have to renew the online fee, I would much rather now get the ps3 version as a minor graphical disadvantage is not worth paying additionally to play online.So PS3 version it is this time!

Because of the streaming tech in the 360 its one of the advatages 360 has over ps3. Thats always been known its in the tech sheets. If more developers actually used the crap and the lossless compression no one uses it though its unreal everything this generation and it sucks.

The reason is money how much money did killzone 2 cost that has to be the most expensive game ever to make. What did it cost to make like from 40 to 45 mill to make that game. Come on if you give a talented dev like bungie that kind of cash anyone could make a game like killzone 2 on xbox but when you can make a game like gears 2 for 10 mil using the unreal engine why spend the extra cash just to make graphic whores happy. As for the guy who asked what multi console owner would turn down the PS3 version with xtra content for the 360. A a small side mission and an outfit isn't going to persuade me to buy it for the PS3. Most of my friends have a 360 and a mic, I can chat with my friends while playing.

well, its not like its running in 540P like SC:Conviction and 576P like Alan Wake its clocked at 644P so its barely noticeable...but even the two games I mentioned above still look damn good and if this type of news never leaked, no one would really care, so I don't see all the fuss...plus if you have a damn good HDTV you probably won't even really notice anyway....at least R* was kind enough to give the PS3 exclusive content: Solomon’s Folly Gang Hideout and Walton Gang Outfit.
