Gamespot: Split/Second Review

Split/Second is unlikely to become your go-to racer, but while it lasts, it's one hell of a thrill ride. Tailing an opponent and taking advantage of his shortcut, watching a tall tower fall onto your speeding nemesis, drifting around a corner while miraculously avoiding destruction raining from the sky--these are great moments that will make you cry out in glee. This is a one-trick pony, and once you see through the trick, it's hard not to wish there was something more substantial to support it. But if you're in the mood for some rip-roaring fun with no strings attached, Split/Second makes for a boisterous weekend romp.

Interesting score.

Just like Pure, this game gets HARD. I'm like 35% into the 'tv show' and it's already like impossible to come in 1st place anymore. There is definitely some rubberband A.I. going on and since there's no mini-map it hides any bouncing that might be occurring.

Unlike Pure, I just hope I can finish this game.

lzim5813d ago

good luck, you'll probably get bored and play something else.

Blaze9295813d ago

LOL probably. Which will be Blur ;)

Lacky5813d ago

hm i expected it to get a better score... but anyway it is not my type of game..

lzim5813d ago

I was expecting something like this, 7.5, but another place gave it 9.5 and I was like WTF>!?

seems nifty but nothing beets burnout. not this cheap clone.

Cheap clone? I think it exceeds Burnout as far as consistent joy is concerned. Burnout has gone downhill since Burnout 3.

Blurs servers were the main issue but would love to see it return.

AZRoboto3200d ago

I'll point out that these games are all from the X360/PS3 era - they've already had HD releases when they first came out. Split/Second and Blur - with the crazy vehicle physics capable today, why would we not want sequels to them?

The other games, all a matter of opinion of course, but... thank you for your ads between every single game. /s

TheDCD3200d ago

Problem with sequels is that they aren't very likely. Activision dropped Blur like a bad habit, and Disney isn't doing games anymore. So I'll happily take the originals.

Remember Me
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Miss_Weeboo3200d ago

Alan Wake
Lost Odyssey
Demon Souls

TheDCD3199d ago

As much as I'd kill for a Demon's Souls remake, isn't likely. We'll probably get Bloodborne 2 instead.

PhoenixUp3199d ago

Dafuq kinda title is that? These games were already released on HD consoles though...

Man I loved Split Second... I wonder why it never got a sequel?

Nekroo913882d ago

Didn't sold enough copies, the studio was reduced, etc. You know how things work.

barb_wire3882d ago

Disney shut the studio down. Damn shame too, awesome game.

Roccetarius3882d ago

As it was said, Disney shut it down due to it not being successful enough. With that said, a sequel could definitely have improved on Split Second's arcade madness.

Paytaa3882d ago

Split/Second and Blur were the two most under rated racers last gen. They were great games and wish there were potential sequels.

Roccetarius3882d ago (Edited 3882d ago )

Personally, i prefer games like that, more so Split Second than Blur. I also remember when i was playing Destruction Derby Raw back in the day.

GRIP is a game going to early access on Steam, because there wasn't enough people backing it on Kickstarter (unfortunately).

That's one of my only hopes for racers i enjoy.

Rookie_Monster3882d ago

Hoping for BC as I still got the XB1 disc and still play it time to time. This and Midnight Club LA along with Project Gotham Racing 4 are hidden racing gems from the X360 days.
