I'm taking these rumors with a grain of salt. We've had rumors of a PSP2 with 2 analogues, a PSP2 with 2 cameras, I'm not buying any of these rumors until there's something to back up the claims.

There is nothing wrong with xmb, but I would like to see a redesign of the ingame xmb. Similar to the 360.

oh brother i gotta start getting used to these.. as we get closer to e3 we're gonna see a lot of these "rumors".. in a way its nice because it builds the e3 hype but take everything you read with a grain of salt and just wait it out... this years e3 is going to be amazing

I don't people mean they want a major redesign for the XMB, but get the more obvious functions like instantly get to read a message when received etc.

This mostly comes down to better usability design etc. Minor changes with a big impact.

it certainly needs to be updated, i really hope they do it.

1- a speed improvement and optimization in game and while going down a loooong music library

2- better music sorting because it takes a year to sort a big collection

3- shortcuts like R3 for GAMES and L3 for MUSIC and so on

4- this is about the OS in general implement {univirsal coustm music playback in games }

5- someone said here a long time ago that they should give you the option to 'turn off icons that we dont need' like turning off chat setting under SETITNG
to improve speed well sound like a good idea

and thats about it on my side oh and i have an idea they should make a mini menue like if you press say R3 a small circel appears on the bottm left and has shortcuts like up for GAMES down for VIDEO and like that

Always down for better presentation.Be nice to have a interface option though for those that don't like the change.

I would like an update to the friends list. There should be an easier way to check messages and communicate with people.

i dont have any problem with XmB only sometimes messages are slow

I mean its really simple for me to listen to music, look a pics and watch videos so what needs changing. it pretty much is divided in the best way possible.
and for people that keep saying "i wish this was like the 360 on my PS3" well get a fucking 360 then. you want PS3 graphics with xbl and it is not happening any time soon.

Perhaps removing some of the unavailable options would be nice, though I understand the advantage of being able to "queue" opening a video file while automatically exiting a game or whatever.

i like it the way it is with my picture being the focal point...... 360 made themes obsolete with the update..... right now im sporting a iphone theme on my ps3 my boys bug out when they see it not to mention my daughter thinks it a big phone and try's to touch screen it...... quite cute in person LOL OOO HOW I LOVE MY DAUGHTER SOO but hate haveing too clean the tv of finger prints...

As long as this is a refinement rather than a full revamp I'll be happy.

A better way to deal with the list of Friends, and messages would be great.
More folder and sorting options would be nice.
A MUCH better media/audio player and sorting facility would be great.
A nicer way to selectively back-up media to an external drive would be OK
Some sort of cloud integration for backing up save games would be fantastic (having just lost my copy protected saves to YLOD I'd love to have saves tied to my account rather than my PS3 and available online for download)

I've always thought the XMB was efficient and effective, so I don't want a huge load of bloat and massive changes. Sensible refinements would be awesome though.

Is this guy well known and reliable. I've never heard of CheapyD so I don't know how reliable what he says is true.

Is that if true, it's about time. I'm sure whatever Sony decided to do will make things only better in the end. I remember how junk the old PS Store was on launch and now look at it, it has surpassed the 360 marketplace since MS switched to NXE (in terms of looks and functionality). If we could get a PS Store like interface, I think it might be crazy enough to work.

Cool. Not that I don't linke the current XMB but if they can make it better then I wouldn't mind a little change.

it makes lots of sense if it were true. one of the main reasons why this could be true, is so that it could work with the PS Move properly.

If they change anything should be a option for me to change it back to the original just in case I do not like it. I do not mind a change I'm all for it.

sony implements the xmb across all their products, what makes you think they would redesign it just for ps3...makes no sense

I allways like xmb and prefered the old dashboard I supose you just dont change somthing that allready perfect.

I'm ok with XMB, not a huge fan of it so don't mind if it gets changed. I do think some of the options need to be condensed and other redundant options removed. For instance combine Music, Video and Photo into one option called Media.

An issue I have is when I want to stream a video from my computer I select the Video option ... why then am I presented with folders named Music, Videos, Pictures and Playlists ... didn't I just select the option to watch a video, therefor should be presented with a list of videos? The same happens when I select Music and select the source as my computer, instead of a list of the music on my computer I am presented with a list of folders (Music, Videos, Pictures and Playlists).

But if they are doing a redisgn it will confirm cross-game chat since thats the only feature that they would need a reason to redisign the xmb for. I just hope w/e they do its not worse than the current design. XMB is easy to navigate simple and easy to get custom themes for will suck having to get new themes.

I've purchased quite a few dynamic themes... Like five. Hopefully I'll still be able to use them.

Otherwise I'd have purchased a feature that Sony took away from me... *Cough* Other OS *Cough*

Launching music while i'm playing SSF4 is easy and simple ...

I like the dashboard as is...Simple and I can see my custom screens/skins unlike the current xbox dashboard where they blocked out half of the screen with the silver globe. The previous xbox 360 dashboard was better they were simply justifing their subscription fees by making some changes.
If Sony wants to make the ingame dashboard smaller like the 360 in game dash along with a better invite system that would be acceptable.

It needs severely tidied up though, a lot of the options could be reduced.

The XMB wont change its layout if it did it wouldn't be the XMB anymore.And whats the problem with the messages,I just keep it on the message box then bam new message right at the top no looking needed.But I could see the ingame XMB being reworked. It could cut off everything that cant be used in game.So most System settings,videos,music(providin g the game doesn't use it)photo,playstation network and network tab.Would speed up the ingame XMB our at least clear up so ram for other things like in game chat.

the best part about E3 is the random rumours that never come to life.

Hopefully they spice it up a little bit something to say 'hey your looking at a true next gen system'

Lol just joking but this probably has to do with all Sony devices having some sort of connectivity they've been talking about for the last year or so.

I like how the XMB is at the moment. Easy and quick to find whatever I want.

This one's been around for 4 years, so if they have some improvements I'd like to see them. Although it is simple and easy to use there are things about it that I think could be better implemented. I guess we'll see if its true.

The core of the XMB is good, but it has since become cluttered with tons of things in each column. I suspect if it's true they won't do away with it entirely, just do a lot of refining and improve the way you navigate.

BTW the XMB BLOWS hard for in-game. Its design is such crap for doing things quickly while playing a game. It takes forever to get to messages, etc. I suspect if anything gets changed at all it should be this. It's absolutely brutal.

i'd love to see it more like the xboxs. I think even the wii has a better look to the interface then the ps3...But really i don't care but for ch*ist shakes sony how about given use cross game chat.REALLY how about it?

Personally I have never had any problems using the XMB. I still think it is sleek and easy to use. I don't understand how it is hard to use.

My only issue with the XMB is the in game XMB, I find it pretty slow a lot of the time and it just makes sending a message or something like that seem a little tedious because it can be slow.

For navigation outside of game though I have no issues, I can find my downloaded games/movies/music all very nicely.

It would be nice to see a facelift though, just to keep things fresh but tbh I'd settle with a major performance boost for the in game XMB.

I`d like to see what they do, but I love the XMB so much more than the NXE as it is. It`s faster, smoother, more streamlined and FAR more professional looking.

I think the XMB and the presentation of PSN in general is boring. XBL has a 'personality' that makes it feel more significant, whereas PSN feels like its just hanging around not offering any gas money. If the design doesn't change, I'd live with it, but I definitely wouldn't mind a more appealing presentation and integration.

If Sony does this, they need to make the XMB more personalized. Other than that leave it alone.

Didn't Sony talk about what they were doing to the XMB last E3? So this isn't a shock, I bet one of the things that will get added is the off and on switch in the XMB for 3D.

Only thing I really want added to it is, change color of front (That means for messages and XMB) so you can see it if you have a white background or something, more support of all music and video files an maybe away to unlock copyright files or just be able to link it to your account only.

I enjoy slagging the 360 as much as the next guy but the 360 dashboard is visually more appealing than XMB.

Sure the ads suck on 360 and its more cumbersome to navigate than XMB but visually its better.

Just freshen up the visuals on the XMB I say.

what id like to see is something along the lines of the themes, where we get to choose what kinda xmb we'd like to use.. and then u could have custom xmb or somethin.

i think the XMB needs a full overhaul graphically and functionally.

- integrate the PS Store into the XMB like how the Live Marketplace is integrated into the NXE. you dont have to enter/exit a separate application, you can automatically see whats new and browse through the content without leaving the NXE, and its much quicker.

- media playback makes you jump through too many menu options etc. on the 360 i go video library->my PC then bam, theres all my shared folders. on the PS3 i go video->search for media server (as it never seems to stay 'found' for more than a day or so)->my PC->video->folders and THEN it has to load up a list of all my shared folders. it should save the list of shared folders and files, then update as necessary - like the 360 does. on the 360 you can go into your media then go straight to the bottom of the list, no loading. on the PS3 you have to wait for A to load, then B, then C, then D, and so on all the way to Z.

- the friends list just needs a complete overhaul. i should be able to see what my friends are playing, when my friends last played every one of their games, read a bio about them, etc. on the PS3 you just see their name, what theyre playing, and their last few trophies.

- remove the clutter. we dont need 4 different PS Store icons, we know where it is. we dont need one in Game, Video and Network and wherever else it is. get the number of first level menus to 5-6, not the 9-10 that there are now.

- make it more visually appealing. lets not kid ourselves and say that the NXE copied the XMB - the left/right then up/down menus have been around since the very first menu was invented. all the NXE did was take that concept (which they already used for the Blades) and make it visually appealing. the XMB is like the websites you see with basic text drop down menus across the top of the screen in times new roman, in black, with no effects - boooooooooooooring. yes, it works and its 'simple' - but it would work just as well if it was in a fancy font with bold and transition effects, only it would look much more visually appealing.

- make the 'in-game' XMB only take up a portion of the screen ala xbox guide. taking up the whole screen is unnecessary.

- make the 'in-game' XMB only have options that you can actually do in-game.

it DESPERATELY needs an overhaul, thats for sure.

is sexy, elegant,customizable and easy to navigate already.

make so when you are playing an old PS2 or PS1 game that your friend should be able to send you IM's and you should be able to respond...also when you are watching a movie you should be able to IM's friend and make so you can share movie view...I got a movie and i send you and invite..that would be nice and also a music share field and movies so you can download from friends and share....

When I was trying to get automatic sigh in on and it toke like 10 min to find on xbox 360 that's was about it.

The XMB is a really good system, but it could use some streamlining.

For example, I'd like some kind of master list for the memory features. Just a major menu link that opens up and gives all the different types of memory storage under the games tab, just to clean it up a bit.

If they blew out the XMB so that its 3D, like how the ps2 and ps1 memory cards save icons were back in the day that would be nice as fuck. Flouting icons in the XMB but in the same layout.

Integrate PS HOME with XMB. A full 3D GUI.

I think people are just being dumb by saying it needs to be change, their isn't anything wrong with it and it runs an loads things faster then 360's dashboard.

Plus most of Sony products use it, so their is no way the would change it.

Nah, if I went at anyone saying anything negative I'd be going after 99% of members here but I dont. And yes there is emotion involved as usual. A lot of people get emotional here when its something about xbox. It's just the way it is. Behavioral responses. Strong feelings. Emotions.
