Edge: Alan Wake Review

Ultimately, Alan Wake is every bit as compulsive and satisfying as the fiction on which it riffs, but it also runs the risk of being equally forgettable. It’s a game that delivers the requisite number of twists, turns and thrills, but the only real revelations take place on those scattered manuscript pages. As a franchise, Alan Wake’s future is assured – Remedy is already working on downloadable content and has plans for a sequel – but next time around the action will need to keep pace with the deft plotting.

Scores a little below average, like you'd expect from Edge, but their reviews are at least well written.

bigman73875853d ago

Who cares about the number anyway? It's all about the content, because that's what determines whether each individual likes the game anyway.

ClownBelt5853d ago (Edited 5853d ago )

It's very hard to please this guys.

@below

There's a lot of well polished great games this gen, so no wonder.

Fishy Fingers5853d ago (Edited 5853d ago )

Is it, or is it just too easy to please the masses?

I mean that genuinely, I've never known a generation when 10s were handed out so regularly or people complain about 8-9 scores.

erathaol5853d ago

Most be hard to be a spouse of an EDGE reviewer.

BeaArthur5853d ago

That doesn't make sense.

PiTCHBLaCK5853d ago

I'm a good Translater here on N4G, I Had practice with a few other posters.

(clears throat) "Must be hard to be married to an Edge reviewer because they suck"

bigman73875853d ago

In college, a 74-76 is a C, which is acceptable. Apparently in this generation it will take at least a B- for most people to look at a game.

Whether this says something about the game reviewers or the game players I don't know. Did people stop playing games that reviewers pegged as "OK" or did reviewers raise the bar with higher numerical reviews of "OK" games?

PiTCHBLaCK5853d ago

nobody was ready for this generation, to top it off each 3 Consoles are way different then each other, this is throwing people way off course.

BubbleSystemSuck5853d ago (Edited 5853d ago )

i really think the Scale of Edge is 7....

7/7

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8767d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg179d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

Tacoboto766d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia767d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger767d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie767d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

Profchaos767d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie767d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh767d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
