Britxbox: Alan Wake Review

Andy Gardiner writes: "After five years in development it’s no surprise that the latest title from the company that brought us Max Payne is hugely anticipated. With plenty of marketing already done to help hype the game Remedy Entertainment will be hoping that gamers will not only be wetting their pants at the thought of the impending release but also because of the title's terrifying atmosphere.

Alan Wake sees the player cast in the role of… well, Alan Wake. Alan is a novelist who has written a series of best selling novels unfortunately he is currently suffering from a chronic case of writers block. He and his wife decide that maybe a nice vacation to the small picturesque town of Bright Falls could help, unfortunately not long into their holiday Alice goes missing and Alan wakes up in a wrecked car a week later with no idea of what exactly happened."

It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."
