An utter travesty that this game isn't on the list. Still a beautiful game even by today's standards, but everything about that scene, from a brooding snake waiting in the cargo bay, to how he flicks his cigar away, or diving out of the plane...everything about that scene screams greatness.

Most definitely my personal choice for #1.

I can understand Heavy Rain not being on that list, but no GOW3 intro?
Plus Killzone 2's intro movie with Brian Cox is also brilliant, similarly Uncharted 2's intro level's fair awesome.

weak list there my friend :/ UC2, GOW 1,2,3 could have easily filled that list.

ff8 was the most jaw dropping for me both graphically and entertaining.. the music was fitting and the fight scene between seifer and squall really set the game up for something special. Another that comes to mind for great opening sequence would be resident evil 3.

Im sorry but this list is garbage. It's missing so many classic games with great openings that its not even worth looking at. Guitar Hero shouldn't be listed under the best of anything.

No Planescape Torment? Metal Gear Solid? Uncharted 2? Not even Half-Life?!

Definetly there is a better list and also that MW scene unless my memory is off that scene wasnt an opening it was like after a couple of levels or am I wrong??

This list is terrible. Obviously written by someone who missed out on the older generations. How can anyone make a list like this and not Give Resident Evil 2 a nod? For its time it did not get anymore epic than the beginning of RE2.
Also I have to give Final Fantasy X a nod. That was pretty epic watch sin destroy an entire city.

I was just bored and wanted to get to the action, and when I replayed the game I just went downstairs to grab something to drink.

killzone 2 intro is amazing. I can still here his propaganda speech in my head "we will smite the invaders from our skies..."

No god of war 3 wtf? It has one of the best opening sequences ever. The beginning was also the end and plus it started out like a movie with an epic speech.

Imagine playing this game for the first time, you see a shadowy figure smoking a cigarette, walking alone, covered up from the New York rain as cars drive past. It has to be Snake, but you're not sure.... he sprints forward, donning stealth camo, it's still not revealed as Snake, but you know it's him... then, a leap from the bridge onto the tanker below as the impact short circuits the stealth camo and Solid Snake is revealed in all his next gen glory with some of the most impressive cinematic direction ever seen in a game.

I know everyone's sick of hearing it but I do think the MGS games have had fantastic opening sequences. I expected to see MGS4's "War has changed" at least on the list seeing as all the games (bar onimusha warlords) were from this gen. Guitar hero, brutal legend...Call of duty 4, ugh.

What happened to Mass Effect 2? Now that was an incredible first 10 minutes. Guitar Hero? What? Seriously?

How the heck is Metal Gear Solid (pick one) not on this list? Dead space PC intro was awesome aswell. Half Life 2 intro was short but the sheer power of the charaters facial expressions pretty much sumed up how things were going in city 17.

This is such a crap list. The biggest omission is the original HalfLife. if you dont agree then you musnt of been gaming for very long

But it's criminal that Soul Reaver isn't on that list.

IMHO that whole list blows.

Mass Effect's opening sequence is pretty crazy. After conferencing with Captain Anderson and Nihlus, you see the distress video with Ashley Williams shooting at an unknown enemy, then you see the Reaper that comes to be known as Sovereign descending upon Eden Prime. I still get goosebumps when I start up ME.

Mass Effect 2 is pretty freakin' epic as well. Seeing the Normandy getting attacked by the enormous Collector ship, everyone attempting to evacuate, Shepard forcing Joker to abandon her, and then Shepard getting spaced. Jaw-dropping.

Killzone 2 has already been mentioned. Scholar Visari's speech is pretty intense. Taking the drop-ship down into combat is breathtaking.

Other games that are awesome: Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Bioshock, Dead Space, Call of Duty 4, World at War and lots more.

1- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots intro ( really powerfull )
2- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater intro (very classy and creative)
3- Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty intro ( cool badass intro with snake which was kinda ironic xD )
4- Metal Gear Solid intro ( the atmosphere is incredible )
5- Devil May Cry intro ( really bada** intro )
6- Final Fantasy VII intro ( the perfect intro for an rpg in my opinion..really sets the mood )
7- Final Fantasy VI intro ( mechs walking in the snow while hearing an awesome background music was epic )
8- Onimusha 3 intro ( a kicka** intro )
9- Dragon Ball Final Bout ( love the intro )
10- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ( epic hostile warzone )

horonable mentions: vagrant story, soul reaver, final fantasy VIII, Tenchu 2:birth of the assassins,Final fantasy X and there´s much more but i cant remember them right now xD

Slightly off topic. The most epic ending ever, for any game, was Shinobi on the Sega master system (or arcade). LOL.

I really liked MW1's opening....

My list in no specific order is MW1, ME2, GOW3, DA:O (I actualy liked it quite a bit) and that's all I can think of without actually trying, which I don't want to do

IMO nothing beats the opening of Final Fantasy 8.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Is this like the 10th quarter in a row they're down 33% on hardware how is that even mathematically possible. You would think their mediocrity would Plateau
