Why Red Dead Redemption Should Be On Your Radar

Red Dead Redemption, developed by Rockstar San Diego, is set for release next week, and the anticipation is reaching a fever pitch. The minds behind Grand Theft Auto have proved numerous times that they can make a rich open world game, to say the least. Based on what Rockstar has shown so far, there is growing evidence to suggest Red Dead Redemption will be their best offering to date. For starters, the game is set on the western frontier of turn-of-the-century America, or as it's more commonly known, the wild west. In addition, Redemption boasts a thriving, incredibly detailed world full of dynamic side missions, and some fresh multiplayer modes to boot.

Really looking forward to this game.

I am too. I'm concerned though if the illusion of "open world, do what you want" is actually real. GTAIV bored me really quickly but RDR seems to offer so much more.

It definitely seems like GOTY material but I'm a little cautious after GTA IV.

Well all games are pretty much an illusion in general. The only truly simultaneous real time open world are MMOs and RTS. They all have a draw distance and things pop up as the game is streamed to fit on the ram.

Casual gamers like open world games because it does a lot of things right but not great. I hope Red Dead Redemption is a great experience. GTA4 wasn't bad for me. It just wasn't a true next gen open world experience.

...I'm really excited about RDR but also VERY cautious only because I was so hyped for GTA4 and it let me down. However the old west theme leaves me with a sense that I will find RDR a much more refreshing game than GTA4.

but I just got Just Cause 2 and Super Street Fighter 2. I'm thinking of picking up two other games for the summer and their probably going to be Mod Nation and Demons Souls. It looks great though. Definitely something I'll pick up in about four-five months.

It's been on my Radar for quite some time now.. At least a year :D

I'll be waiting for the reviews..

lol, do you always let other people's opinion affect your personal decisions? A better statement would have been " I'll rent it first ".
I'll never understand gamers who take a complete strangers word on how good or bad a game is...

The multiplayer looks sweet.

well i have no doubts about this game...

More like people don't play these type of games on their phone normally and don't try them out. Not like the places where people do play these games haven't crushed those numbers easily.

How many people actually played more than an hour of the game or came close to finishing it on mobile is the real question. If people aren't playing the games to a point that is purposeful, then why try when a subscription that is behind a streaming service isn't a sign of success but just curiosity.

What if Netflix becomes ‘the Netflix of gaming?!’

Alek83132d ago

I downloaded it because I already have a Netflix sub.
I am not going to buy it for $40 or whatever it costs on Google Play.

I tried it out and will be sticking to the PC version, but it's not bad.

Having said that, this is the issues I see vs the PC version:
1. Greatly reduced texture resolution.
2. Massive downgrade ALL lighting quality (this includes water, shadows, etc).
3. Stutter and heat. Prolonged play leads to both.
On the plus side, we have:
4. This thing is like 6GB vs the 12 on Steam.

Great way to try the game, but not the best way to play it.

Perhaps Netflix will make a RDR series now that ST is done with.

Lionsguard133d ago

A Netflix version of RDR?... Oh boy... I can't wait... /s

They should build a production that includes members behind the True Grit remake and Hell on Wheels from AMC. Both were perfect for wild west vibes.

but i doubt people ACTUALLY played it on smartphone vs tried it out.

Another free update...good to know but I don't own a series X

Petebloodyonion166d ago

I’m not sure what the exact issue is. I had no trouble getting the free update—you basically get the new game for free if you have the 360 version in your digital library. Maybe the problem is related to owning or not owning the Undead DLC expansion.

Hypertension140166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

Yea I think thats what it is. I also own the game but not the expansion, and im unable to download the update.
