id: DOOM 4 will be “awesome”

vg247 writes:

"Rage is “awesome” – we can verify that for you right now. But what’s the next big “awesome” thing from id Software? DOOM 4, innit."

I look forward to seeing what it's like but RAGE interests me more at this time

Obama5846d ago

Doom 3 was a disappointment. Let's hope doom4 does it right.

Aphe5845d ago

I loved Doom 3 actually, the scares got a bit predictable eventually but other than that it was a great shooter and a worthy update for the series.

Pennywise5845d ago

Doom 3 was a HUGE disappointment. It had its scary moments, but overall the experience was dull. It was more fun using the addon to allow the flashlight to be attached to your gun. Switching from light to gun was just a stupid idea.

Doom 3 was disappointing for those looking for a modern Doom game as it was pretty old school for the time it was released. It was a no nonsense remake of the first Doom and it did a pretty good job of being a remake right down to the closets of monsters and monsters waiting for you around a corner.

edit: I thought Quake 4 was pretty disappointing TBH. Just wasn't anywhere near as good as Quake 2 and I hated that everything looked like plastic which is also what I didn't like about Doom 3.

Bloodyghost5845d ago

Doom 3 was something that was fun but with how big the franchise was, I thought it would be bigger and better.

BYE5845d ago (Edited 5845d ago )

Doom 3 was awesome for the first two hours of gameplay, then it became lame and predictable pretty fast.

Godmars2905845d ago

Doom 3 was a disappointment in that gameplay wasn't enough of a return for the amount of hype and resource requirements if you wanted to play it on PC.

It was this game and Crysis that started the argument about expensive upgrades every time a new game came out. All the things that killed PC gaming.

AssassinHD5845d ago

I enjoyed Doom 3 overall, but I agree with Pennywise about the flashlight. It seems a bit unrealistic that technology is advanced enough for plasma weapons and Mars colonization, but no one ever invented weapons with tactical lights. Even without tactical lights, I would hope a space marine would at least be smart enough to duct tape a light to his gun, considering the rather dark environment I mean.

Obama5845d ago

"Switching from light to gun was just a stupid idea."

lol I agree. I was like who thought of this idea of switching between flash light and gun when playing doom3.

Oh goody, another shooter. its not like its the most oversaturated of all gaming genres. Has this already been announced?

table5845d ago

These guys are the grandfathers of shooters. If you're going to give any shooter a try, let it be theirs.

lovestospoodge5845d ago

if dead space 2 tones down the horror from the first one, (which they better f*cking not), then at least we have doom 4!

SuperStrokey11235845d ago

Agreed, Deadspace is the bomb, love that game! Hope Doom4 is good too. I rather enjoyed doom 3 and something newer would be welcomed.

Brewski0075845d ago

Yeah doom 3 was a real let down for me, i was hyped big time for it and when i got to playing it i was sorely disappointed. Im hoping the previews do more than just build hype and actually hail it as a great game. Then I might consider it as i LOVE the franchise.

I hope the devs can break away from MS and take their IP's with them in the not to distant future. This entire consolidation and mass industry firings that MS has spearheaded has been nothing but a disaster for everyone except the already rich creatively bankrupt tw@ts at Microsoft.

MS is nothing but a drain on the entire gaming industry and every facet of it.

1Victor149d ago

There is precedent already with bungie separating from Microsoft but I doubt Microsoft will let them go out with their IP’s without paying a huge price

Reaper22_149d ago

Good for them. From what I hear Microsoft supports it but unfortunately it still doesnt change much but its a step in the right direction. More devs across the entire industry should do this. But regardless, you just love to hate anything Microsoft or xbox. Who's fault is it that sony closed down studios? Who spearheaded that? What i don't understand is that if you hate Microsoft so much why the concern. If this bothers you so much you may want to find another hobby. Free up some of that mental energy for your own well being and stop worrying about shit you cant change.

@FlaggerD care to look at yourself in the mirror, obscure? It's like your 132456th account now, and all of them have you being obsessed with Sony. You just can't handle the fact they literally stomped on Xbox, LMAO! Juggernaut my ass haha. Xbots claiming Expedition 33 winning GotY is a win for Xbox because it was on Game pass is the funniest shit ever LMAO!

Good for them. With AI coming for their jobs and their new corporate overlords working overtime to replace them, it’s a smart move.

Notellin148d ago

It won't be long before Microsoft lays off everyone in gaming and routes that money over into AI.

Time for everyone at Xbox to update the resume and start coming up with Indie game pitches.

DarXyde148d ago

The point of unionizing is collective bargaining. Sadly, I do not believe they have any leverage, which is likely why Microsoft isn't impeding them: The investment in AI is gargantuan. We're talking about a data center in Wisconsin that's about 200 city blocks. That is massive and insane.
