You do know that the PS3 uses "tricks" like the Xbox360 to get around these things? Like using MLAA instead of MSAA and NOA32 instead of real HDR and sometimes not using realtime shadow effects. Using higer precision HDR taxes ALL consoles. Not just the PS3.

This is what ALL fanboys do not want to hear:
ALL CONSOLE games run in subhd at points in the game because the hadrware cannot handle it.
You can only get so far with 512megs of ram and 5 year old GPU or CPU technology. Yes, i said it. I am pointing at the PS3 and Xbox360

Unfortunately it seems a lot of people still think the resolution is the bar for a realistic looking game.

This unfortunately is not the case, a multitude of things must be taken into consideration. Weather Effects, polycount, drawdistance, AA, Resolution, AF, Framerate, etc. etc. I can run The Sims at 2048+ resolution, doesn't really directly translate that its better looking than a totally different game. You can only compare it to the same game at different resolutions. Mood was remedy's primary concern. This is one of the best looking games this generation for both systems, certainly up to par and then some to any AAA title released on any system. Both systems are capable of top notch graphics, lets give the programmers and designers some credit.

whether that's cut scenes only and/or all the time/in game, it's looking beautiful and sick as all hell and I'm going to make an easy guess that it's a true GOTY contender. possibly with very little challenge to the title. Many great games are due this year though but AW has it all going on in spades.
I have the full week off upon it's release and I plan on marathoning this game til i can't see.

The opaque geometry buffer is the single MOST important measuring stick for a game to render, it is the foundation and the sheer bulk of the on screen render, this is how pixel counters determine whether a game is HD or sub HD. Since Alan Wake is rendering a 960 x 540 opaque geometry buffer, you can see it's almost half of the typical HD res 1280 x 720. One can imagine the huge amount of processing power and memory it can save for other effects thus it's nothing special technically speaking when compared to HD games like Uncharted 2, Gow3 and Kz2. All games use quarter res buffers for post processing effects including alan wake, and that's not unique to KZ2 like one of you suggested so it's a moot point.
In the end, Alan Wake has to sacrifice the bulk of its rendering res down to a miserable 960 x 540p just to have similar effects of other HD heavy hitters. It's easy to conclude now which game is more technically or graphically advanced does it not?

Why waste money on a game where Alan Wake isn’t in it for a good part of the game. Also, since you don’t own the game and they can cut you off at anytime why would you buy that many. Unless she was going to resell them for a profit, charity give away, or something like that.
