Hey is it just me, or is PS3 really pushing the originally as opposed to what the title may lead you to believe?

Only on the 360 is originality dead. Xbox shooter kids make sure of that. By the end of next month, the PS3 will have had 8 exclusives to choose from this year. You know what the best part is? They are all from a different genre. We have an FPS, JRPG, Brawler, Hack n Slash, Sport, Thriller, Arcade Racer, and a Zelda tribute. Wow, it REALLY sucks to be a 360 only sucker. They`ve had like 3 multi-platform shooters, ouch.

Hell yeah it is, especially for the PS3, it only does Copy&Paste

i do think imagination is lacking too..

i can take a break from fps for a while i would love to see more games like alan wake.. or a real resident evil i hated 5, or silent hill basically i want more horror/thriller type games.

and some fvcking co-op why the lack of co-op on games like god of war 3 and dantes inferno that would of been killer for them to have it.. i wont touch chaos but if it had co-op me my brother and my girl would kill it.

It's the unending regurgitation of high profile franchises that steal the spotlight and overshadow smaller titles that are actually trying to eschew the familiar and uninspired. Much like anything else, everything comes in cycles and while I understand the question ( 'cause it's a valid one ) I think a lot of the sense that games are generally unoriginal stems from the constant refinement of game mechanics. Easy example, Perfect Dark the XBLA version. While nostalgia runs high for that game ( myself included ) you can't help but notice how far we've come in comparison, in fps game design because of trial and error and the pursuit of perfection in the given genre. Where it's easy to say this is just more of the same old sh!t, given time and the cool ability for hindsight, you can see how it's adding up. So while, yes, generally speaking, the gaming landscape can seem unoriginal. It's the mechanics behind the scenes powering these pieces of "ART" that are completely original and jaw dropping. But usually with people and most things, if you can't see it, it doesn't count.

Edit: I will say though, since where speaking of the stale and unoriginal, if I see another stack of conveniently placed exploding barrels...

Maybe it's not as viable for the mainstream to bet millions of dollars of development on something different, but the smaller devs and indie market is amazingly original. Just look at "Sleep Is Death" sometime and try telling me originality is still dead after messing with it.

if you want originality then you need a ps3 and if anyone disagree then they dont know and i wont explain. we need more games that puts a lot more effort in making a great single player campaign and focus on multiplayer last. to each his own but i only play a very few games online so i dont want all my games to have a lot of emphasis on co op play or multiplayer online. i know some people love to buy games with online multiplayer and co op but having a great single player to me trumps co op or multiplayer online.

The last golden era for me was during the 16-bit and 32-bit era, which is when the PS one came in. Sadly the closest this generation will ever see in originality of previous gens is to look at the indie development scene. With a small development crew, and a very affordable development kit in hand, these Independent studios have much less to fear as far as development costs of a game, since their production costs are far cheaper than something outta Naughty Dog. This also makes their creativity much more prominent, and thus, allows much more original games of a Dreamcast/PS One caliber.

yeah valkyria chronicles, valkryie profile, heavy rain, demon souls, little big planet , flower, resonance of fate, odin sphere, and i can keep goin but am to sleepy to bother lol.

these games have unique gameplay features, or stories, styles etc etc.

people need to stfu, just cuz almost every game is a COD or halo/ gears clone doesnt mean all games are.

maybe people need to stop buying all those games and try something else. but that wont happen

aslong as people keep embracing the safe spot devs will keep making stuff like that and one that niche title comes out and is gr8, people wont buy it cuz its not a shooter.

also originality is starting to be killed because ggaming is old lol. hard to create new genres

I'll guess that some say it is dead since it's in the minority of games and that it's generally shown in low-budget indie titles.
