Didn't read the article but the title made me think of one game that has, not always mind, horrible players... COD. I don't know if it is just me but that franchise, especially MW AND 2 seems to attract everyone including those that I have to mute straight away. The amount of foul language,chavs, abuse, racism, screaming kids that won't let it go that you stole their kill etc seems to run rampant on these games. I guess because it is so popular it attracts everyone!

the author made some really good points about gaming fanboys but also fails to point out certain difference in gamers themselves.

an intelligent gamer would prefer quality any day because he doesnt want to have a system crash on him or fails. an intelligent gamer wouldn't brag about how amazing his console is if it has a failure rate of 50%. when an intelligent person buys a car, they will first research information about the reliability of said car. graphics are important because graphics allow the players to see what is going on in the game. graphics are also an indicator of the level of dedication that the developers had when creating the game. everyones opinion matters but some games are technically better than other games. the majority of ps3 exclusives are technically better than other consoles exclusives and multiplatform games. the majority of ps3 exclusives have better graphics, less frame rate drop, less glitches, no lag and shines a lot in other areas. i would know since i own all the consoles and know facts.

I noticed most "hardcore" gamers were stupid and immature when I read comments on many video game forums. For example, every week for the past 3 years or so game "journalists" and forum posters have said how the Wii won't last because it does not output HD, motion controls "sux", Nintendo is doomed and too kiddy, their Wii is collecting dust etc. etc. Despite the fact Wii is the fastest selling console ever there are still the occassional article that says it will die soon. Now that Microsoft and Sony are coming out with motion controls suddenly no longer suck (huh?). Nintendo is supposedly doomed when it made more in net profit than any other video game company combined. And if Nintendo is kiddy what do you call playing a violent kill simulator where you are a hypermasculine male with huge guns? I wouldn't call those games mature. I would feel more comfortable playing Mario Galaxy in front of my family than Gears of War or Dante's Inferno. Oh, and if you're Wii is collecting dust then why did you, the informed "hardcorez" gamer, buy it in the first place?

Fanboyism and trash talking a console is another aspect how immature and unintellingent most gamers are. And age is not excuse, common sense and decency is inherent in everybody... I think.

I'm still not sure what the author wants from me after reading it. There was something about people buying stuff they don't like so people like Roger Ebert will think they are smarter and that games are art.

I will say that the author is correct that forums and blogs are seemingly full of 'gamers' who come off as very reactionary, myopic, and unpleasant people.

Also it seems that a lot of 'gamers' are prone to being abusive, disruptive, and obnoxious in online games.

I've probably said more than once that many gamers are "dumb" for not caring about some of the best gaming experiences of the previous generation, but that's more out of spite. I wanted Rez, JSRF, and Panzer Dragoon Orta to succeed in order to see more development and freedom from those great creators. It didn't happen.

We don't typically invest much in the latest artistic breakthrough. Movements always start small and are then assimilated into bigger, more profitable stuff when the idea has penetrated enough of either the market or big-time creators. This is because newly established or non-established creative minds will always see their more radical ideas rejected by big gaming companies. Why invest so much in something that may be great in terms of expression, but awful in terms of appeal or sales?

This is why you won't see the main innovators in music even appear on a supposedly fringe but actually quite well-funded publication like Pitchfork - the real innovators are in the background, pushing the medium forward but hardly ever being recognized for it due to lack of funding. Many of the best artists are hardly even acknowledged until someone rediscovers their work postmortem.

This is why digital distribution and minimalist production have been working lately. A musician like Jack Conte couldn't sell his ideas to a major record company as a cash cow, so he found a way to popularize Pomplamoose via YouTube. Passage has worked the same way - word of mouth spreading through gaming blogs and a few small mentions in a magazine, and the creator gains a bit more credibility. Try to start out with some 1080p, zillion polygons per square inch artistic masterpiece and you'll fall flat on your face. However, those ideas get noticed, and they start finding their way onto those big-budget titles, maybe even taking the creator along for the ride. Maybe not, since independence might be more valuable.

The point is that boundary-pushing art can't be measured by the amount of money initially invested in a piece of work. It's always going to be somewhat low-budget, and it's always going to make waves in the rest of the industry.

Their are some good points in it (Couldn't stand reading anymore of it), an the part on Uncharted 2 Vs Gears 2, both are good on the system they are for.

The only thing I dislike about Gears is that everyone likes build like they been working out for all their lifes (Besides random person A). But the game looks good an plays well, at times you might get piss if you are using "A" to run an you get to close to a wall an end up putting your back next to it.

But all games have alittle something we hate an things we like, fact is that I'm more of a people person then most people think, if I see a random person talking about something I like or know about. Well I just start talking to them.

I already help a family choose what 360 model they should get an what they would all need to buy.

P.S. Just because I hate how poorly the 360 is build, doesn't mean it don't have some good games or that I won't help someone save some money on buying one.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Is this like the 10th quarter in a row they're down 33% on hardware how is that even mathematically possible. You would think their mediocrity would Plateau
