It was not GoW3 that damaged AW reputation, was its almost SD resolution which destroyed most of it, and prevented the game to be any sort of "showcase" of xbox power. of course development is restricted when trying to develop two(sometimes 3) different versions of the same game. the initial vision for the game needs to be remain the same, as it would add delays and costs to the final product ie; bly-ray/PC HDD advantages.

Today's games also cost so much $$ to produce that it's almost a waste of efforts to limit your game to one system.

When the Xbox can match Uncharted 1, then we can talk.

Devs arent taking advantage of either system but more likely trying to balance both to look identical. Yes the ps3 does have an advantage over the 360 but to say the 360 isnt capable of better graphics is nonsense. If that was the case then crytek is already proving it with crysis 2.

And of course the ps3 will always be screwed from multiplatform games just because in all honesty most 3rd party devs just dont know how to take advantage of the ps3. The only way I can see a 3rd party dev take advantage of the ps3 is when they start building an engine from the ground up strictly for the ps3. Good example is MGS4 & Heavy Rain which are games from 3rd party devs but creating an engine taking advantage of the ps3.

Well lets forget the ps3 is more powerfull and they where both equel. developers would still struggle the problem is the ps3 has completeley diffrent type of processor that works completeley diffrent ways then theres the the ram on both system are diffrent types ram. then theres how they work ps3 split 512mb and 360 just uses what it needs developers have dont some amazing work on both system with all these problems theres some amazing multiplat games this generation batman AA far cry 2 fight night round 4 people need stop complaining i feel sorry all these good developers getting put down all the time when really what they deserve is to be prasied.

Yes, multiplatforming limits things, hence the superb quality of exclusive titles.

Heavy rain and gears 2 neither look that great and heavy rain is amazingly intense and fresh and you think about who you shoot unlike gears 2's meat heads that shoot every thing they see. i would have compared killzone 2 and uhh well nothing really looks better than this on 360 maybe ff13 but that looks better on ps3 anyways. and your joking about alan wake (720p) looking better than god of war 3 (1080i) nothing looks better apart from maybe crisis on pc but were talking about console games here which crysis 2 developers have already stated the ps3 version will look better than any console game before it.

Some multi-plat games are great, Batman AA and Burnout for eg. Exclusive games do seem to be better, (mostly, not always) but some developers can make great multi-plat games.

In some ways yeah, im some ways no. But a developer can manage to balance the space on dvd9 and not worry about blu ray space just maxing out things for the dvd9 first so that when its packed into blu ray things can sorta be tweaked to be uncompressed if it wanted to.

It's ridiculous to think that exclusives by default are better than multiplats. PS3 fans jump up and down claiming superiority with only a few exclusives that actually stand out, the rest are over-hyped and mediocre at best. Xbox fanboys as well, although they're the minority on this site.

The only ones restricting multiplats are poor developers. Games like Mass Effect 2 and Bad Company 2 are prime examples of multiplats that easily stand out and often above a lot of exclusives on both platforms. In terms of graphics, PC gamers have been having to deal with games dumbed down for consoles for some time, with the difference between visuals on a PC game compared to even the best looking console game, far exceed the difference between the 360 compared to the PS3.

If a developer puts their minds to it, they can produce some truly great games, regardless if they have an exclusive contract with any company.

hey let me compare games that arent even out and that dont run in hd to the best we've ever seen on a console. Even if there is more to tweak out of the 360 its already been proven that the ps3 is a more powerful machine on paper and it has been shown. i really cant stand how people just come up with fanboy articles to try to justify why they ar a fanboy. trying to compare the xbox to the ps3 is like compareing the ps2 to the original xbox

Even XBox 360 fans admit that Mass Effect is painfully underwhelming graphically - comparing it to the technical marvel that is Uncharted 2 is just retarded. Advice to the author - read up on realtime ambient occlusion, motion blur and color grading in Uncharted 2 and then tell me why even my Windows copy of Mass Effect 2 has visible pixels in the texture work and looks like the models came straight off the video card with no treatment other than a cheesy grain pass.

While I had ps3 since the beginning I just got a 360 last week and my hunger for graphics has subsided due to my thirst for a fun game with amazing game play. Yes, especially for PS3 Hardware Performance.

Mass Effect 2 and Gears of War 2 both run the Unreal 3 engine. Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, and God of War 3 all have their own engines....Heavy Rain too.

The writer of this article is an idiot. The 360 was modified during design and prodcution to run the Unreal engine at it's best, and most other multiplatform engines were built for the 360 in the first place.

Gears was originally made on ps3 designed to it's specs. Imagine what 10 gig game and idea was made 50 gig. Gears is xbox's best looking game but it is still looking like an old Xbox game with high def thrown in. Get your head out of your ass cliffy , go ps3 and fo justice to your franchise. Gears with uncharted graphics and sonys lag free network.

What the f*ck are you smoking? Did this guy really just put ME 2, Gears of War 2, and Alan Wake in the same sentence with UC2, GOW 3, and Heavy Rain? The only thing that the 360 games have in common with the PS3 exclusives is that they may all be fun to play but 360 exclusives have not done anything to rival PS3 exclusives visually. At least, not yet. And the fanboys can deny it all they want but now our day and age a game has to look hella good and play beautifully in order to justify a $60 price tag. I really wish the 360 would've utilize HD discs so that it could at least run in the park with some of the better PS3 exclusives. It sounds like it can do it but DVD9 is really limiting what developers can do on Microsofts machine. FACT!!!

sure you can compare a multi plat game to an exclusive like killzone 2 or uncharted and say yes..

but then look at games like epic's unreal tournament 3 and criterion's burnout paradise.. both equal in every way except for each consoles strenghts/weaknesses..

both had internet downloadable content and mods on the ps3 but at the time the 360 had an edge on graphics and the stronger online...

IMO no, multiplatform gaming isnt holding anyone back. what does hold games back are time restrictions given for release dates. if every game had 5 years to be made theyd all look incredible and be better. but the reality is that not many companies can go 5 years without releasing a product and still be around. we still get great games out of 2-3 year production cycles, but even an extra year can often be the difference between great and brilliant.

the xbox 360 is holding this gen back. the ps3 can do so much more but it is held back cause 360 lacks next gen tech for the next gen of gaming.

The 360 still has some room left for improvements graphics wise, but the PS3 is just gonna get stronger and stronger.

I don't really think that this is a matter of console power, but it is a matter of reducing costs and working on a lesser timeframe. If you have the resources to focus entirely on one single platform, the final product will be a much grander game then it would be if you had to divide your stuff. Aside, there's the matter of the media capability. I guess that one of the main priority developers has is to make the same experience in both platforms -- which is not really possible for the media. The content cut from FFXIII was big enough to make a whole separate game altogether, and this is not a reflection on which hardware is the best one, it's just a developer trying to make things as equal as possible to both of its users. One thing is to have 2 or 3 discs in one console when you only have one in the other, but to have 4 or 5? It would make all that talk about equality go down the hill. Not to mention the costs to make it happens.

Multi-format development is only limiting the PS3.

Multi-format development is based off 360 engines and architecture because the 360 was first to market.

Developers have tried to port over the 360 engines to the PS3 with modifications with varying degrees of success.

Multi-format games look better than or just as good as 360 exclusives but multi-format games look inferior when compared to PS3 exclusives

Bayonetta is developed to take advantage of 360 architecture and GOW III is designed to take advantage of PS3 architecture. Now you tell me which system you think mult-format development is restricting...
