Visual Novel? No thank you!

tigresa5864d ago

I actually have taken a light interest in visual novels, and horror touches seemingly would make it all the better, though I'm tempted against clicking with that 4/10 glaring me in the face.

Normally, there's nothing wrong with visual novels, in fact, I enjoy them and they are a neglected genre in this country. However, if you're going to have a text-heavy adventure, then you better darn well do a good job of making that text tight! This game was in such bad need of a red pen it was painful... painfully boring, and it's really a shame.

Eurogamer.it Review: Again

Similarly of Another Code and Hotel Dusk, Again is a concentration of ideas, a game that raises questions, introduces a new level of design, and making experiments with time and memory. VGC Review: Again

VGC writes: "Throughout its extensive lifespan, the Nintendo DS has time and time again rejuvenated genres that gamers have been hard-pressed to find in this modern day love affair with all things action-oriented. Long thought to be a bygone relic of the 1980s and 1990s PC era, the text/point-and-click adventure fits the bill perfectly when discussing these rejuvenated genres, and the guys over at Cing have played an enormous role in the revitalization by outputting three different text adventure titles worldwide on the DS alone. This is why Again, the fourth (and what may very well be the last) title developed by the house that Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk built, is such a peculiar title. What had the potential to be one of the DS’s premier text-adventures somehow turned into a something of a disaster, and given Cing’s impressive track record, there’s really no explanation for the laughable narrative and subpar gameplay presented in their latest adventure effort."

Aussie-Nintendo: Again Review

Again is a massive disappointment, especially if you were expected another adventure on par with Hotel Dusk. Admittedly, the game has a interesting idea that could’ve made for some unique gameplay, and anyone who’s played Hotel Dusk can tell you CiNG can do great detective stories. The gimmick is a joke, the characters and storyline is dull as all hell and everything else just isn’t that fascinating.
