I didn't update to 3.21 mainly because it provides no features or benefits, and who knows if it could brick my PS3...it works fine on 3.15, not going to rock the boat.

I've got a launch 60gb and its working fine. Oddly we are just now seeing these complaints when the update was released days ago? I doubt Sony will lose much if any money in law suits considering I read somewhere recently on the ps forums a section from the usage agreement that they can cancel some services or something at any time.

If you really want to know the quality of the PS3, hangout on the official PS3 forums, PS3 is not a whole lot more reliable than the 360 when you do a little research. The only difference is, Sony makes you pay for the repairs and replacements, while MS just covers it under warranty extensions.

Mine works fine but have a slim, I do have a friend I play Resistance with who has had an older model break after the update. He is the only person I know who has had this issue.

I have 3 PS3's a 20gig launch, 40gig & a MGS4 bundle and I updated all of them to the 3.21 without any problems. Every time there is a FW update the same BS is always said about it bricking machines. yawn.....

Sure it does like every other update thats come out. I have 2 80gigs(4 usb) a 120 and I haven't had one problem with any update thus far. This is just a way to try to disrupt the onward movement of the PS3. These dudes are fools but I give them props for keeping up the fight.

Also, if Sony would try to brick all the fat PS3, then there would really be a case when suing them. No money could save them on that one.

I know I would refuse to buy a second PS3 just because those idiots broke mine. I would just steal it in a store, because it's easy to do so.

I would lose some stuffs (some saves are copy-protected, so you lose them forever if your ps3 is broke).

now i have had the firmware brick my system but that was way before 2.whatever update that added the system restore so firmware updates dont just brick a system anymore at least not one thats been properly updated with the system restore.

one ps3 dies because of coincidence in relation to a firmware update and the whole world ends. that dude needs to take care of his ps3 more often or maybe his warranty is about to run out...

I haven't updated my fat yet because it has linux installed. I wonder if these issues only affect ps3s that had linux installed before being updated? If so, I better delete linux before doing the job. That's if Geohot or someone else doesn't come out with cfw that might interest me of course.

My 40GB fat PS3 is all right in every way. It has never had an issue since i got it in april 2008.

My 60 gigger is running fine after the update. It works well enough for me to post this comment, enjoy all the best gaming has to offer and any other media I so desire. I'm over it. Next.

My launch Xbox 360 is still going strong with no problems at all, even after the most recent update.

My contacts and Friends with Fat Consoles didn't complain at all. The Update is fine.

These reports come out on every single firmware upgrade. I am guessing it is due to interruptions in the installation process, and not the firmware itself. There is inherit risk in updating firmware on a computer. A process is created to minimize risk, but risk remains if anything interrupts that process. It is logical to conclude that two exact devices with the exact same hardware, and exact same firmware update leaves one working and the other not...it is probably not the firmware itself being a problem, but something gone wrong in the installation of that firmware.

From all the internet reports of PS3s getting bricks you would think that all the Fat Ps3s are dead? Every time sony issues a firmware update millions of people claim to have had their FATS bricked.

because of this my playstation got the yellow light of death 2 days ago and i was playing Section 8 it was my best match yet n my system shut off in the middle of the game . :(

Things have definitely reversed. While the 360's problems have been long gone, the Ps3's are starting to show their ugly head. Almost everybody I know has started getting the YLOD's. Sucks for you guys that you have to pay $150 to get it fixed.

I guess most of you guys are lucky.. My brand new slim just can't seem to update. I keep getting a network error code 1%-15% into the update. I'm sure it's not my internet connection either. I guess I'll try the usb method or open up some ports, but other than that the past few days I couldn't simply update my damn slim T_T

I have no doubts that some firmware updates kill some consoles, and the PS3 is no exception. No two people have the same mix of installed games, game saves, etc. And all it takes sometimes is the right combination.

Yeah.......another story about bricking PS3. How am I not surprised. Every time a firmware update comes out, some a$$hole comes out with a bricking story and acts like its a fact. This is really getting old and pathetic. I do not want to point any fingers but we get pretty good ideas where these stories come from.

I don~t think this is fake because I lost my blu-ray disk drive after playing FF13 with the new FW update.

What it is funny and curious too is that all the |PS3 that are having problem with FF13 or other games all players were using a Fat PS3.

It is not worth to fix my PS3 so I am getting a PS3 SLIM next week and I hope that with it I can play FF13 to get a plat trophy on this game.

Was wondering if Sony is killing Fat PS3 by purpose so they go asap to buy a new PS3 SLIM because we all want to play God of War 3, HR or FF13.

however lucky me had a 3 years warranty christmas offer when i bought the ps3 so they exchanged with a refurb ... not sure if it's the firmware or not but i played for while b4 it YLODed.

i also had a bluray fail on exactly 1 year from the time i bought my ps3 ! so this is my 3rd console :S ...

ironically i don't turn on my 360 that much coz i was scared it RROD so i barely use it and i am still on console 1 :P !

I've got a problem with my BluRay drive since I updated to the new firmware. Sometimes I insert a disc and the PS3 didnt' recognize it. Before the update I've had no problem with this, and now it happens. First I was thinking that my PS3 was to old already, but then I've seen this article and man, you saved my day! I hope Sony fix the problems as soon as possible.

but i lost my launch 60(upgraded to 160) last night. i think it is just a Coincidence in that i updated when 3.21 first came out and have been playing FFXIII/Madden non stop for at least 8 to 12 hours a day. its gonna cost me $ 178 to ship and repair my baby but i wasnt going to trade it in for the slim upgrade/downgrade option sony has availiable.

mine works fine , and i brought a games console and it plays games fine, surely educational establishments would have pc's to run Linux?!

I bought my 60 on midnight (sony style store nyc) Over the years when I web browse it was prone to occasional freezes. Post update it freezes every-time. Gameplay wise though, no issues at all.

Users reporting these issues on the playstation forum have all 1, 2, 3 posts and are all from Usa.and look how the vast majority of people already on the board didn't have any problems. no issues reported by European or Japanese users….mhh maybe Sony hate American people or we can imagine where these stories come from,obviously. I also saw that thread linked in articles online as "proof" of the 3.21 technical problems.not a reliable source.

My bricked before the updated (YLOD). Played some Heavy Rain dangerous game.

Now the store is looking into it (see if they can fix it, I don't think they can). Before they send it out to Sony, i think.
