Sony's 'It Only Does Everything' Campaign Paying Off

IGN: Speaking at the MI6 marketing conference in San Francisco last week, Peter Dille, SCEA's head of marketing, said the company's 'It Only Does Everything' PlayStation 3 advertisement campaign is working.

The ads, which feature fictional Sony executive Kevin Butler, are intended to highlight the PlayStation 3's features to consumers more clearly and inject some humor. Dille said console sales are going up and that consumers are more aware and educated about the PlayStation 3's offerings

But it is no surprise. All thanks to Kevin Butler. "The money is already in your account"

Kevin Butler for President.

Anon19745884d ago

I love seeing them. I particularly liked the new ones about Move, taking shots at both the Wii and Natal. When I first saw Natal I thought the exact same thing. "So, I'm supposed to make a finger gun and jump around my living room like a 3rd grader yelling "pew peeewww"?"
I laughed out loud the first time I saw that ad. They nailed it.

Godmars2905884d ago

You mean like all of the lost feature comments?

Maddens Raiders5884d ago

...and in other news, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

sikbeta5884d ago

Well, that's cuz these ads are So Awesome....

IdleLeeSiuLung5884d ago (Edited 5884d ago )

Well said Sony. They are making strides in turning around their business strategy. The crying baby and some of the earlier ads were just freaky. I did like the one where all these things where coming out of the PS3... that was artistically cool.

I do like the Kevin Butler ads, especially the one where he mocks other motion control technology. All in good fun!

Still I dislike the whole removal of features we already sold you ("Other OS"). I think that is the industry's first. I'm not convinced they would NOT do that again citing some other non-existant reason.

Biggest5884d ago

IdleLee never fails to TROLL through.

boodybandit5884d ago (Edited 5884d ago )

I would rather items removed then poorly implemented items added to the hardware. Especially when they require you to purchase a whole new console revision to get those poorly implemented hardware tweaks.

I don't for the life me understand why people are making a fuss over linux being removed from the PS3. I don't know a sole that used it or is sorry it was taken out.

On topic
I love Kevin Butler. The guy never ceases to make me laugh.
My wife LOL'd at the GOW3 commercial. When that game was released I was a ghost until I completed it on every difficulty.

HSx95884d ago (Edited 5884d ago )

It only doesn't do... Other OS.

--Watches the PS3 fanboys disagree with me because they think I am an xbox fanboy--

Bubble Buddy5884d ago

I think Sony was trying to go for a more sophisticated, futuristic view for the PS3 commercials compared to the quirky and funny PS2 ones. Good thing they learned that their funny PS2 commercials were working so why change it.

MEsoJD5884d ago

Other OS. Had to say it. I'm going to remember that everytime I hear that phrase.

Then you should be fine with Sony charging for the added features firmware updates bring you

commodore645884d ago (Edited 5884d ago )

Quite honestly, Sony is going downhill fast.

They launch an advertising campaign to the tune of 'It only does everything', yet consumers are left wanting after removal of features such as 'linux' and backwards compatibility with ps2 games.

Lawyers are currently being consulted about a class action lawsuit with regard to the removal of linux on fat ps3s, as consumers were misled by false advertising in that regard.

Added to that, the slogan 'it only does everything' is misleading and, in light of recent events, an outright lie.

Sony should coin a new slogan:
"It only does a few less things than when you bought it, 3 years ago"
... At least that way they're telling the truth!

Come on Sony.
Stop lying to your loyal consumers.

Cenobia5884d ago

This whole thing is totally off topic, but the removal of the 'Other OS' has fukced me big time. I don't really care that Linux was removed (although I would have liked to keep it), its the fact that I have to reformat now.

I have a satellite internet connection, which is basically dial up with a download cap, so re-downloading my PSN games is basically going to take 2 months. Not that it matters because I game share, so I will lose most of them anyway. I really just want to sync trophies and check the PSN store, but I can't do that now which is really irritating.

I'm not going to sue Sony, because that's retarded. I don't really blame them for trying to stop hackers after the PSP and PS2. And Commodore, I have no idea how you have any bubbles left. You sound like a psychopathic conspiracy theorist. Writing sentences as if they're true doesn't automatically make it so.

Typical fanboy dribble from you.
Sony are protected from the lawsuit. TOS saves their butt.

Microsoft were in the same boat with their RROD crap. But I bet in your eyes they have the halo on their heads right? Can do no wrong?

As for a few less things.
Trophy support, dynamic themes, etc etc all say hello.

Go to the open zone where you belong.

Lifendz5883d ago

The consumers would've known the advantages and multi-functionality of the system rather than a crying baby that suddenly bursts into flames.

ps3 It Doesnt Do Everything

/fixed..

Sony suck at times..its bullshit they made up a story saying they where losing money on the ps2...if they didn't want to lose money on the ps2, they should not of made the backwards compaitibility in the ps3.

I'm kind of pissed about it sony...

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle16d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga25d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199224d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga24d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman24d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box25d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion24d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7225d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7524d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit24d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14924d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7724d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
