Of course it's paying off. Before the "It Only Does" campaign the PS3 marketing was rather sporadic. You would see commercials for AAA titles but the rest of the time you would never see PS3 commercials. It's almost like they weren't sure how they wanted to market it. The new campaign is really well done and Kevin Butler has almost become another mascot for Sony. A little late to the party but a good campaign for Sony.

This had been the best advertising campaign I've seen in a while, Kevin Butler plays his role perfectly, plus it fits in with the new game releases. Either way it's waaaay better then "Play Beyond" it made the system look like the work of the devil or something.

there is no concrete evidence that it had anything to do with the slogan campaign.....far to many variables to try and say that....of course the biggest variable being the price drop.

I think that advertising the Playstation 3 has been one of the main failures of Sony. They've now hit it on the nail with this advertising campaign! Props to Sony.

I didnt buy a ps3 for those reasons. If some of u bought a ps3 for those features then I think u wasted your money. For me it was for "Quality Games" which sony has been delivering. So for me as a gamer, I could care less if it does everything as long as it brings great games that is the main reason I bought the ps3 for & sony has been delivering the best quality games for the last 2 years. Nuff said.

Fix the stuff thats crap like Netflix, awfully bad streaming with my PS3. Never figured out why. Streams fine through my PC,laptop, 360 or Wii, yet it's god awful through my PS3.

nothing really sells a product more than humor, and this campaign shows that while Sony most certainly takes their business seriously, they aren't above some tongue in cheek jokes at their own expense, and the expense of their competitors.

the latest add, with Kevin Butler taking digs at the Wii and Natal, reminded me of the old Nintendo/Sega ads of back in the day, when Sega was all about showing that they do what "Ninten-don't".

as for people with no Playstation 3's, and people who have NEVER bothered to use the Other OS feature b*tching about it being removed, i have to say that, in the 3+ years i've owned my 60gig Phat PS3, i've NEVER used the Other OS feature. it is, so far, the ONLY feature on the console that has been removed (i have a backwards compatible PS3; i knew i'd want it, so instead of b*tching, i forked over the money for a BC PS3/combination Blu Ray player for $600. it was a fricking DEAL), and yet, i've received features that i use quite often: Netflix (me and my wife use it DAILY), in game XMB, Web Browser, Life With Playstation and the "News Channel", hell, even Playstation HOME has been used in my household more than once.

Other OS uses: 0. a BIG FAT FRICKING ZERO.

i'm not even going to pretend that i "was going to" use the feature. i WASN'T. it was neat that it was there, but i didn't have the time or energy to figure out how to install an operating system i have NO EXPERIENCE with or real knowledge of on my $600 PS3.

i could have easily done more damage to my PS3 by installing Linux than just leaving it be.

there have been more features added to the PS3 than taken away. that's a FACT.

chances are if youre using a ps3 for "supercomputing" (lol), why do you need to access psn? just dont update your "supercomputer" (again, lol) and you'll be fine.

No one cares about "other os" and then they remove it because of security concerns and all of a sudden its "lawsuit, lawsuit!!!!".

Other OS and backwards compatibility were removed from the slims before this campaign started and I dont remember Sony ever advertising that you can put linux on your ps3 as a selling point.

Point is, other os is gone if you updated but it is not false advertising. Also, backwards compatibility has been gone from the slims for ages now. Why still talk about it? It is still in the old ones and may come to the slims at some point.

Sales have been unbelievably good since the new campaign approach. I'm proud to own such a beast.

Serioulsy the point of the campaign is to show that the ps3 can do alot more than the competion thats all. If you litterly think the ps3 can do everything then expect the ps3 to do the lawn for you or cook dinner for you.. PPL get real.

It only Does Heavy Sales:

It only plays dumbed down, lower scoring, gimped multiplats.
It only plays Blu-Rays (but not nearly as well as other BD players that cost less).
It only plays visually appealing games that have crap for gameplay and substance.
It only offers an online experience thats laughed at by the online gaming community.
It only has a gimped controller with a design from the 90's that makes it impossible to play anything but GOW3 style button mashers.
It only reads maybe 50% of the file formats on my USB/Burnt Discs (xbox plays them all).
It only lags out when trying to stream movies from your PC (xbox is smooth as silk).
It only has about 3 games worth renting let alone buying.
It only has devs that bail out on their games after no one buys them, leavng the poor bastards who actually waste money on them, high and dry with no bug fixes, patches, updates etc.
It only doesn't have back compat.

PS3, It only collects dust in my living room.

came when i was showing my 60 year old neighbor what my ps3 can do and no joke the first words out of his mouth was IT DOES EVERYTHING, and he has never seen any ps3 commercials. IMO the ps3 pretty much can sell itself, sony just needed to get out of the way.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
