I could see this being the perfect device for casual computer user but that's it. It seems like it does a good job at what it offers but they left out too much for that price.

BTW, I loved the ABC application and battery life. Really impressive. Wouldn't buy it though.

I never liked Tablet PCs or touch screens. When you press things, your hand gets in the field of vision making the work/game inconvenient.

It runs Windows Vista (pre installed)

After a week of tweaking i actually made Vista work fine and everything runs almost as fast as my 2.4Ghz quad desktop, the Vaio is an amazingly well put together piece of hardware, even though it has 2.0Ghz Dual CPU and not the best of video cards

The video card is a bit behind, but should be 10x stronger than iPad one anyway and plays all games i am interested in

Right now i can

- play Blu Ray disks

- write DVD's

- watch 720p HD movies in their full glory

- plug to my external 32'' full HD screen and watch in 1080p

- develop my XBLA RPG for xbox360 in C# and create its art in my drawing programs using a tablet for both painting and vector drawing

- listen to music, both from stored on HDD and youtube etc

- edit music

- browse the net with every plug in i like and download accelerators

- insert an external HDD filled with movies/music and play anything out of my huge collection

- create documents, presentations for my PhD and actually take the laptop to do the presentations on site

- play most games fine, both old ones like Sierra advantures and emulator ones, and new like Whispered world and other advenures and RPGs that are inspiration for my XBLA game

- use it vertically to read PDF books, adobe has a feature to rotate the documents, and the laptop can stand on its own vertically when opened a few degrees from 180, meaning i can read books in their page format (unlike iPad that has almost renctangular screen) and never get tired, since i do not have to have it in my hands

- chat and take pics with its camera

- preview my XBLA game on my 32'' TV, to get an idea how it will actually look on TV, plug a 360 controller on the Laptop to play with xbox controls, and draw on my TV which is far more fun and relaxing than any PC screen, you get a much better idea for colors nd shapes on the big screen

- a million more things that i could never do with iPad

And all that in a extremely compact, light and with proper screen size and shape device. I can fit my laptop, drawing tablet, external 500GB HDD, power supply, small headphones, 360 controller and a mouse in a tiny bag that i can take anywhere easilly

The cost of the laptop was like the cost of the most expensive iPad version, and was worth every penny might i add, i take it everywhere and is the first laptop i had that is so powerfull and i actually rarely work on my desktop quad anymore, it is that good

Tried laptops , tablets , psp , netbooks , none of them fulfilled ALL of the above criterias , only a few of them ... and some of the devices , namely , tablets were even more expensive .

And that is only one of my potential uses for a (cheaper and probably 2nd or 3rd gen) ipad .
