Cool, I'm very anxious to play it.

Should look sweet on my 50" Samsung.

Red_Orange_Juice5888d ago

I think it will look decent enough on my 32 :)

PotNoodle5888d ago

Will the console versions even be in full 1080p?

Foxgod5888d ago

Probably not in fullHD, the first non DLC to run in 1080P still has to be created, and wont be on current gen consoles.

Shaman5888d ago

LOL no 1080p for consoles.Although Crytek said they are aiming 720p 2xAA,that is pretty reasonable, should look great.

EvilBlackCat5888d ago

its good to have a great pc with 3 monitors!

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5888d ago

1080p Upscaled on Consoles. Not Native.

If you want 1080p or superior, play it on PC.

Consoles can't do 1080p Native in this type of games.

Rich16315888d ago (Edited 5888d ago )

I am sure it will be awesome!

BattleAxe5888d ago

Looks like EA is really trying to screw with Call of Duty if this release date is true.

avengers19785887d ago

I would like everyone that is talking about 1080p or no 1080p to take a look at your pc monitor specs, a majority of them are not 1080p, and most of them have 60mhz refresh rate, compared to 240mhz on TV's.
For the most part your pc monitor is not as good as the average HD TV.
Oh and crytek used the PS3 for the lead design console so there is no denying that it will look great on a PS3

Tachyon_Nova5887d ago

I seriously doubt it's an official release date, for a game like Crysis 2, which has extremely high production time frames, it's too hard to nail it down so soon.

The Septmeber 24 release date that was mentioned earlier is certainly wrong as well, as EA have stated that Crysis 2 will be released in Q4 2010.

Therealspy035887d ago (Edited 5887d ago )

you know you could google these "facts" you spew before letting us all know how ignorant you are on the subject.

let me ask you this. suppose you had a widescreen monitor that was only 4" across. what resolution do you suppose it would need to match the quality of a 24" 1080p monitor?

if you think it's 1080p, then you're way off. if you have a 50" TV that is 1080p, you are spreading the same resolution as on a 24" monitor over a much larger space. there is no way you could find a tv on the market that is larger than 30" that would look better than a typical 24" monitor.

as for refresh rates...well TVs have to have higher refresh rates to look better. think about it. game consoles, dvd players, cable. it all runs at a set FPS. the higher your TV's refresh rate, the less likely you'll encounter screen tearing.
computers, on the other hand, can do something called Vertical Synchronization where it actually helps find a common ground between the monitor and what's being displayed (it's actually a little more complicated than that, but the point remains the same).

sid4gamerfreak5887d ago (Edited 5887d ago )

Why would anyone for a second think to get crysis 2, a game fully optimized for the pc, on the gimped consoles?

avengers19785887d ago

I'm not saying that the PC does not have the capabilities, I'm saying most people don't have the Better stuff they have the average PC equipment, and that isn't usually great. It's good enough for most.
Crytek themselves did say that they were using the PS3 for design, it was an article on this website some 3 weeks ago.

Wow. Fall 2011? Well atleast it shouldn't get delayed........

chriski3335888d ago

That's great but the only problem I have is that the 360 is holding this great game back it will look awsome on the pc and ps3 but the 360 won't be able to take in all that greatness plus I wonder how many dvd's will it be on

Chris_TC5888d ago

I'm not that much in the loop about console stuff, but the 360 and PS3 should look comparable. They both have similar hardware limitations.

Foxgod5888d ago (Edited 5888d ago )

It will look great on pc, ps3 and the 360.
However, the pc version will look the best, as the 360 and ps3 dont hold a candle to modern pc's in terms of power.

The difference between the two consoles is only a few %, however the difference between my pc and the two consoles is about 80%, now thats a difference.

And it will most likely be on 2 dvd's, just like Rage, i cant imagine this game to need more then 2 dvd's.

SuperSaiyan45888d ago

It amazes me sometimes if people here actually read, Crytek have already stated that ALL 3 versions PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 will be created seperatly, there will be NO ports.
So don't worry your pretty little head, the Xbox 360 will not be holding the PS3 back... >_> how pathetic, when does school start again?

champ215888d ago

1st cryis was on 1 DVD... note 1DVD and its still the best looking game out there.

Also why do you feel the 360 would hold the PS3 back. Lol if you think the PS3 is sooooo powerful then it should run somewhere in between the 360 and PC. However i can bet you this, that wont happen. PS3 and 360 will be very simular, since they are simular in terms of power. Few percentages of power mean nothing, its not like the 2 consoles have a generation of a gap between each other they have old PC hardware both of them are equally outdated.

BattleAxe5888d ago (Edited 5888d ago )

@ Chris

You really don't know anything about consoles lol.

@ Champ

The PS3 is a more powerful machine over the 360. The games that have come out for the PS3 so far show that it can compete with high end PCs eg: Killzone2, Uncharted 1, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Metal Gear Solid 4 and soon to be released Gran Turismo 5.

Lets not forget the MMOs that the PS3 has that are out and comming soon like M.A.G., The Agency and DC Online Universe just to name a few. Even Resistance2 had 60 player games which is something that the 360 hasn't done.

However, I do own a Dell Studio XPS 9000 that I got this last November and my criteria for my new PC is that it had to be able to run Crysis on very high or enthusiast settings, and I have to say that I was very impressed with Crysis and Crysis Warhead. I just haven't come accross any other PC games that i want to play yet. Maybe Metro 2033. PC gamers need to actually play some of these PS3 games because the fact is that the majority have not, and they presume to know what they are talking about.

Hotel_Moscow5888d ago

you wish they had similar hardware limitations

champ215888d ago

Both console manufacturers will try brainwash you with their adds how powerful the consoles are. In truth its the GPU that does most of the work. Both the PS3 and Xbox have very simular powered gpus.

Before any PS3 fanboy comes in mentioning the CELL, Sony can tell us stories all day long how powerful it is. However fact is if the Cell was so dam good they would have gone with their original design and gone with 2 cells (meaning no RSX). However since CELL wasnt good enough for GPU tasks they had to get the RSX on board. Yea so it helps offload some of the GPUS work.. its not gonna be a difference of a generation (when i say a generation i would say the difference between a 6800gtx and a 8800gtx).

Since both the consoles have equally powered GPUS i believe the games should look very simular just like every other multiplatform on both the consoles.

Flame away :P

Dark_Vendetta5887d ago

I won't get into the discussion which console has better spec, and I won't argue if the CELL is powerful enough to replace the RSX, but (@3.7) seriously, all people complained how expensive the Ps3 was at launch, what do you think the price would have been if they would have put 2 CELLs into it? Yeah let's launch it at like 1000€, I bet people would have bought it (sarc).

champ215887d ago (Edited 5887d ago )

RSX has 300million transistors

Cell has 234million transsistors

what makes you think Cell would have been more costly to implement? both are chips. Generally chips with more transistors are more costly.

RSX probably cost more. Simple reason not to havve a CELL is because it would have gimped performance. Sony would have loved to use a 2nd CELL and not go with Nvidia. However Cell cant generate graphics the way a dedicated GPU can.

Who cares about the game? I want CryEngine 3!!!!

Letros5888d ago

I'm with this guy, while I'm looking forward to the game, it's a blast messing with the editor!

gillri5888d ago

hmmm, will probably get swallow up by COD and Halo Reach in terms of sales now that it wont be open world which was its USP, will still get it though, now do I get it on my PC on high settings on a 26''Samsung or on a PS3 with a sofa and a 46'' Samsung, I reckon out of the consloe veriosn the PS3 will look better than the 360

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada072520d ago (Edited 2520d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X142520d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase2519d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted2519d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster2519d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack2519d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH2514d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
