I am not going to bash the XBox because Microsoft are trying to right it, but this guy either has burried his head in the sand for the last 14+ years, or knew nothing about Sony and logged onto MSN and looked for information there.

I had 2 PS1 replacements and 2 PS2 laser replacements. One of the PS1 was due to me punching it, then stamping on it and the other was a failure 4 years later. The PS2 ones was some big footed git stepping on the wire dragging it to the floor and the second was a failure around 5 years later.

I was happy by me treatment and speed of responce from Sony, my friend had a Sony DVD player it has lasted 9 years so far. I know years ago there was some problems with Sony products, but that was a long time before the PS1.

I think he was just trying to say that Sony's product always gets people's attention regardless of weather its the best product of it type or not which is fair enough. What he's not taking into account though is the fact that Sony produce hundreds of electronic products and most of them are generally in the top ten in their specific categories at least. To imply though that the PS3 is poorly design is totally, completely and utterly ridiculous.I have a PS3 and i can safely say its the best Sony product i bought sofar.Not only its a next gen gaming console with pc capabilities but also a Hi def movie player for the price of an average hi def player.I think the reason why Sony dominates is because people know when they buy any Sony product they know they are buying quality regardless of weather its the best of it's type or not.

But they are almost always overpriced. In nearly every category you can find something that works as well or better for less money. The 360 has a higher failure rate than the PS3, but Microsoft is standing behind it and it has better games right now. I don't see who can argue with that. The PSP is very well designed, too. But the DS Lite is killing it with a lower price and better software.

And Microsoft is standing behind their product in a much better way than Sony ever has. Sony sure didn't extend their 90 day warranty to a year when my 4 month old PS2 started getting DRE's. PS2 failures were so common that gaming sites had entire sections dedicated to repairing your own console. Sony's dedicated followers definitely need to remember that before criticizing any other company.

The PS2 for its failure rate(the games were excellent fortunetly, justifying the purchases), and surround receivers are really the only things i can think of about Sony in a negative light. And the PS2 isn't even that negative in my eyes aside from it many issues.

The rest seem good to me. Their tvs, camcorders etc.

Maybe the only other bad thing that came from sony was the battery incident.

It is said that the main reason the japanese didn't buy a regular xbox is because of it's large size, yet, Sony turned around and created a console just as big! So based on slow sales in japan I believe it could be true.

You can never count Sony out when it comes to having the great TV's, stereos and receivers and head phones among other products. Sony has A class engineers who come up with the designs for the many products they offer.

They took over video games in the 90's because that was when people were captivated by them the most. They are struggling with this generation because they have competition. The 360's multi platform games do look better. Even if the difference is small it is still there. (MADDEN among other games PS3@ 30FPS vs. 360@60FPS) As gamers you would buy a PC GPU and CPU set that would perform the best. You would not purposely buy a chip set that under performed unless you bought a weak power supply that could not handel the stronger chip set.

The console dose not generate games out of thin air the games have to be developed. The Developers are having to get over some speed bumps currently. When it comes to the PS3 the hardware’s current reliability is better than the software line up. People do not want to pay more for the under performer. But the PS3 mite shape up over time and match the 360 in graphical performance. Or the 360 will catch the PS3 at hardware reliability.

Either way as gamers who are in the know we at the best of both worlds no matter what.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
