Has Gamestop Changed? For the worst?

Nintendo Now writes: I was a loyal customer of yours during my past years. I was a faithful customer to both the EB Games and Gamestop franchises until the 2005 merger. This good faith included reserving games readily, paying the extra money to get the strategy guide with the game and including waiting in long launch lines. For example, when Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat was released, I waited in line, on a school night, to be one of the first to pick it up. The employees were helpful, passionate about their games, and driven to make the perfect sale.
Unfortunately, it seems, this is no longer the case.

I find my self using fry's electronics(too bad they're not everyhwere), because i know it will be in stock(that or amazon has release date delivery). the only time i use gamestop is if there is a pre-order incentive. seometimes i get a decent conversation from a vg sales person, buts it very rare.

I usually just stick with Amazon now. No tax, cheaper than MSRP, $10 credit promos on like all new releases now - cant go wrong

tokoshix5900d ago

Whenever I go to Gamestop, I hardly ask for help, mainly for cases like this. Seems the employees just read what's on the computer, and have no knowledge of games themselves.

Blaze9295900d ago

Yeah things aint what they used to be...aint what they used to be...aint what they used to be nope. Oh Gamestop aint what they used to be....

DJexs5900d ago

The 2 gamestops closes to me both are filled with great employees the one I frequent most the manager usually chats me up for a bit and seems to know his stuff. How ever I guess that cannot be the case everywhere. The two closes to me are in smaller (still very very large compared to where I live) cities.

Some bastard there tried to sell me a Used Demons Souls for the 65 bucks
wtfff

xTruthx5900d ago (Edited 5900d ago )

I find it so stupid to sell a used copy for 55 bucks when you can buy a new 1 for 65, Gamestop is amazing huh and I saw they were repacking some magazines and selling them like if they where new lol, it was so sad to see.

NaiNaiNai5900d ago

Pfft. gamestop can suck it from me..I now go to my little gamestore downtown.

I'm on the blacklist for pre-ordering a few games and pulling them when they turn out to be crap *and still spending the money on games there.* considering I spent well over 600$ on games and accessories at that store last year, and they tell me I can't pre-order anymore. gamestop can F-ck themselves.

Gamestop is only as bad as you see them! If you don't want to deal with them... Dont do it!

You are not obligated to do anything with them if you don't want to!

I have figured out the way GS works, so I rarely feel cheated by them.

When I trade something, I find out how much I am getting for each item. If I don't like it, I take it back. I guess some gamers are too scared to open their mouth for fear of confrontation.

Gamestop allows you to return stuff! This is great to me, because if I buy a new game and don't like it, I can get something else. If I buy a used game and don't like it, I can get something else or my credit back!

Tell me another store that offers you those options on games?

I rarely feel cheated by GS because I know what i'm getting into with them. If you don't think GS makes a good offer, try to sell it on your own and see how far you get.

I know this is kinda off topic, but I had to get it out!

NaiNaiNai5900d ago

LMFAO. good luck pulling that at any gamestop around here.

I can do that at my smaller store. *they also do game events.* which gamestop rarely does.

truthfully gamestop has gone way down hill since I work for them a few years back.

Lightsaber5900d ago

I didnt know gamestop could get any worse then it is.

Stephen55435900d ago

1.4- Gamestop only will put someone on the "blacklist" when they are constantly taking advantage of the powertrade(For people who dont know: 25% more for a trade in when you pre order one of the certain games offered at that time) and then cancel their pre orders, thus making money for something that they shouldnt have made money for.(there are other promotions that can be exploited as well) Only people who would do that are people who know and want to abuse the system. Simply canceling pre orders is not enough to get on the black list. (but yeah I know that that wouldnt stop an employee from telling you not to come back...)

1.5- Gamestop doesnt take returns for opened new games. They rarely do so, and if they do it's generally either because of the certain circumstances at hand or because you are close to them and they are trying to slip one by for you.

Gamestop pretty much is a preorder bonus store now

Crazybone1265900d ago

Yeah lots of people use Amazon now to buy their games, and personally sometimes Amazons bonuses are better than Gamestops

divideby05900d ago

EB used to get the games at least one day before all the big stores...
Now all stores get them at the same time and BB typically has a sale or at least a 30 day match price, so why bother buying anyplace else

"once best choice for video games"?

I don't think they've ever been good... at least for me

"Be creative 99% of the time" – Glen Schofield on how creativity can help fix AAA industry woes

The Callisto Protocol director thinks the solution involves the right people, the right timing, and perhaps a little bit of AI

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman36d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
